We need WASD movement for PoE 1 now too.

"
After experiencing WASD in PoE 2, I'll never go back to mouse movement. This is the only thing keeping me from going back to a new league when GGG releases the next PoE 1 league.

Any thoughts? I can't be the only one.

Eww....No.
POE2 player here.
I've recently returned to Path of Exile to complete the current season, and I desperately need support for WASD movement. Implementing WASD would offer a much smoother overall gameplay experience and provide players with significantly better control over their character
wasd is a crutch to compensate keyboard/mouse users for the options joystick users have.

yeah, some day games will be best played by starting your ai-bot and people will still bring the argument: "you don't have to use it, it's optional, you can still play the game manually if you want".

the idea to attach joystick support to a mouse/keyboard game (poe1) or attach keyboard/mouse support to a joystick game (poe2) will make you always feel like you use the wrong input system.

they should have rather made poe2 a pure joystick game and then i wouldn't have touched it.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
wasd changes the game too much to the point that the main systems of the game are broken. And we can see it clearly with the nonsense in POE2 with casting or attacking at full move speed on or off a mount. Attack and cast while moving never should have been added or if need be then it has 95% reduced movement speed. Monster targeting, especially Bosses, need to be updated to compensate for this change.

No, we have Gamepad with analogue stick movement.

We just need the option to map the X and Y axis of the analog stick to WASD.

Gamepad movement works absolutely smooth in PoE1 as it is now and did so for many years.

No need to change anything on the rigs, skills or the likes.

Just an optional control sheme for those who want it.

Kind Regards :)
Introduction of WASD to POE1 like it is POE2 would made channeling skills build shine. Right now POE1 is kill as fast as possible and don't stop moving or you will die but you must stop moving to attack. Channeling skills are the type of skills that need to be used for some time to get it's full potential and that don't work very well because of POE1 combat philosophy. The only channeling skill that is good and match mentioned philosophy is Cyclone. Actual movement in POE1 is only good for minions/totems or shot and forget skills builds because when you try to use channeling you start to be very easy pray for mobs and even with defending focusing supports you are doomed.

But...
I would be happy even if they introduce WASD movement and left combat to be like it is right now in POE1. LE developers did something like that, they introduced WASD without changing combat, you still stop moving when using skills. This is far better for longer game sessions than mouse Point and Click/Hold to move. Also for me it's much better to control you character.

And for the ones that say it would be to much work for GGG to introduce WASD as optional controls, look at LE. Developers of LE saw that WASD in POE2 was a success and after listening to part of their player based they decide to also introduce it in their game (as optional), without changing combat style or animations. After POE2 WASD, others ARPGs developers started to see that this is something that need to be introduced in their games. They are too many players who will not even check their ARPG game without controlling character movement with WASD after playing POE2 with it.

I would really love to see how it would be to use POE2 WASD control with POE1 Barrage or Blight Skill but this dream is much further than the idea of LE approach.
haven't even tried it in either. Objectively worse way to play the game. You lose 4 keybinds and tie 4 fingers up with something you can do with a single click.

Yes, we do, WASD is awesome.
I can better control the movement and targeting with my mouse, without shifting the mouse to move and target the whole time.

That's a you problem. POE1 is fine with the controls the way they are.
General discussion gaming forums are almost always a cesspit of ignorance and trolls.
WASD works when your build only has maybe 2-3 buttons when you also consider flasks, which is why it makes sense in POE2. But on POE1, you have 3 additional flasks. So until you can start to automate them OR you get Mageblood, its going to be a far worse experience, IMO.

POE2 controller is an exceptional experience for everything except inventory management. If they would allow both (kb point or WASD) to be enabled or an easier way to toggle, then you'd have the best of both.

IDK if they keep it from allowing you to attack while moving it would probably be fine. You would still get the advantage of aiming while moving but thats not as advantageos as "run and gun" and would probably still leave click to move viable.
