Jamanra (Act 2) is everything wrong in PoE2

oh no, white monsters in a map are mobbing me and dealing scratch damage, what am I to do

Try doing some actual difficult maps. Level 69 mobs do nothing, try the level 80+ ones.

Just because you have an issue with the boss doesn't mean that others are having the same issue. Have to laugh at the dodge roll count and Dark Souls comparison when I barely have to roll in maps and just play normally.

Yea? Because the campaign plays extremely differently than maps in a way that's really messed up. Maps are just a different game, campaign is dodge roll and learn movements and memorize enemies, and maps are gear check lalalala run around. It's really bad design.

The boss fights are fantastic and can be learned well enough to avoid the telegraphed damage. Of course that doesn't apply to everything else in the game, specially in maps where even the trash can one shot you.

That's an opinion which I don't share. As for "telegraphed" - yep, inside of flame walls with minions all over the place, the "telegraph" is completely lost on me. I can't even see which way the boss is facing or whether he raises his arms or not. Only way to see something is to NOT use Flame Wall which means your main damage dealer is not in the game.

I get that some people like Souls game. I don't.

That's not really the games fault then is it, if you choose to play a build that results in a visual mess with multiple ground effects over lapping so you cannot see the telegraphed attacks or so much bloom from fire everywhere you miss the red glow of a one shot.

I remember doing a boss fight yesterday in a group and the same person getting killed every time, because they chose to spam ice walls preventing them (and others) from seeing what the hell was going on.
Titan Warrior, 2h mace, Lvl 34 here. 14% Lightning resist. I beat Jamanra less than 6 attempts. As you see im running a very offensive warrior. I dont have much defenses. So i can say it: Jamanra isnt broken.

The fight is awesome and i didnt saw anything wrong with this boss. After some fights you can read him well.

The thing is: i upgraded my gear. Only yellow ones with sockets and sort of thing (quality stones in armor and weapon).

Im sorry but you are exaggerating about the boss difficulty. Maybe its because you are frustrated, but its okay. Its a challenging game its not your fault. Maybe you can improve your build a little more or just be less greedy when attacking him.

As a warrior i break his armor and shout infernal cry. So i hit him one time with regular attack to proc the heavy stun. Hit, roll, hit, roll around him and so on. If you hit him two times after one roll, he will damage you with lightning. Dont do that. So, as i was saying, when i stun him, i've shouted warcry, i break his armor with armour break again and rolling slam to death. Ive deleted his health bar very quickly and yes, i know he has tons of HP but this is how my build works to do dmg. Worked for me.

When he stop you can notice he is charging something more destructive. Just run away (you dont even have to roll). If he summon the two "remote-guided" lightning, dont panic. Just roll toward them as soon as the first lightning rod comes your way. In the same frame that you are rolling, the second lightning rod goes towards you and so you will not take damage as it will be in your rolling frame.

Sandstorm? Run you your girlfriend and manage the minions. Beware because when the sandstorm is over, Jamanra will blow the ground with lightning. So roll again!

Second phase: do the exact same thing as i did. If he spams a lot of tornados and lightning rods, just lure him to another spot. When he uses the big melee attacks its very easy to dodge and punish him. When he is about to die and starts to spell the lightning rainings, just run or roll. He always spells two times. Than you have a window to punish him.

I also defeat him with my ignite gas and flame grenadier. Just spammed tons of bombs and break his armor with machine gun and velocity rounds gem. Its not very complicated.
I'm all for having the wolf tuned down a bit because it's act 1 and people really don't have a chance to power up enough for the fight when quests tell you to go there.

Jamanra felt about right when I fought him though.
Pretty sure I downed him after like 3-4 attempts at most.

Minion builds can also be insanely strong.
I suspect under an hour optimizing your character would make the fight significantly easier.

So, my first character was a Monk. I found Jamanra incredibly difficult and ultimately wound up grouping to kill him. My second, and current character is a Witch, SRS Witch specifically. With the system knowledge and fight experience gained from my Monk, as well as Witch just coming online much faster than Monk, I didn't have any issues with Jamanra when I cleared him last night (so, this is after the recent nerf to Arsonists). My gear is nothing special, just the best stuff found in shops and two decent pieces from my guild's stash. I do have the unique shield though, which dropped for me during Act 1. I also socketed storm runes into my gear to bring my lightning resistance up to about 50%. SRS ripped him a new bum hole. Time to kill was maybe three-to-five minutes. I was really worried that Jamanra would hand my Witch her first death, since he was such a struggle on Monk, but nope. My Witch remains unbeaten going into Act 3. The build I've been using is just the Maxroll leveling build.

How do people not realize they if they're taking 5+ minutes to kill a boss, it's because their damage is awful?

Fix your build. Bosses aren't actually damage sponges if you hit harder than a sleepy kitten.
Git gud

Yes, sounds horrible, but that's the truth. Thousands of players managed to kill Jamanra and you're here saying "IS EVERYTHING WRONG IN POE2". Feel entitled or what?

Just accept, that this game is not holding your hand like PoE1 does. If you can't beat the boss, you messed up at some point. Very likely the gear. Trade is there for a reason. If you had bad luck with rares and crafting, then just buy the gear you will realize, how easy that boss is. I managed to bit it first try with a warrior, that only had a good weapon and was still wearing many blues...

+1 to everything OP wrote, but I have this same experience on A1 Geanor instead. I have firewall, minions, tons of AOE stuff. I cannot see jack shit on the ground. Fighting for 5 minutes, then missing a single dodge roll and being 1 shot only to retry 10x times feels like shit. There is no way for me to gain more power either, I have ground through A1 5x times entirely, I have maxed out gems, I have great items. I could scrap my build and do one of the few cookie cutter meta builds (until it gets nerfed 10x), but here's a better idea: fix the boss fights. Many of the players DONT LIKE THEM.

If you get one-shotted, your gear is shit.

On a minion build, gave up after like 15 attempts. I fail to see the point of a boss with 1 million hitpoints that takes 10+ minutes to kill. You run out of flasks thanks to the unavoidable damage or you miss one dodge and start from scratch.

Farm till level 40 and hope for better gear?
"Craft" and hope for a random item that isn't utter garbage?
Continue to waste time trying to dodge perfectly 100+ times during the fight?
Completely rework the build to do decent cold damage?
Pray for an item that gives you spirit so more minions?

Or ... just accept that PoE and this type of boss encounter isn't my thing, call it a day and forget about the game?

At the moment my frustration is high enough to consider quitting. I just don't see a point in a boss that needs 10+ minutes to kill and 100+ perfectly timed dodges. IN CAMPAIGN MODE!

I never liked Dark Souls and PoE2 is drifting heavily into the direction of it. Dying 100 times till you learn the mechanics and dying 100+ times more until you don't fumble a dodge is for masochists but not me.

How about adding an enrage timer that speeds the boss by 2x, and does 10x damage when not killed in 3 minutes? Thanks to capping the skill gems and not allowing to level them with XP gives the game a hard gear lock. I noticed this on my warrior - one lucky find and breezing through map where I struggled before. But gear is 100% luck in this game. Still don't have ANY +level to minions items and the minion damage is ok but against this boss it is pathetic at best.

Also: Dodging is a bit of an issue when you can't see shit thanks to the flame walls, SRS and minions. Visual overload is the best description I have - when you can't even see what the effing boss is doing that you need to doge or stand behind.

bruh, Jamanra is braindead easy on a minion build. Have you considered that maybe you just didn't build your character correctly or aren't playing the encounter properly?

Use SRS if you aren't already, pick an SRS spawn skill, use 4-5 skeleton warriors to tank and distract him, put the rest of your spirit on the arsonists. Use your SRS spawn skill 2x every ~10 seconds or so (flame wall is ideal for that role). Otherwise you need to stay moving and dodge when he telegraphs stuff. Melee...yeah he's really hard, even some ranged builds he's gonna be hard on, but minions make that fight stupid easy.
