Crafting System

"
I don't know what they were thinking, the intricate crafting system in POE was the cornerstone of the game and franchise. This new 'system' is just trash. Its beyond regressive. No deterministic crafting just slamming in sequence. Way to reduce the entire game to an RNG loot simulator. POE without crafting and interesting orb combinations (I don't say currency because its competing for that title now) is a game that has lost its identity. When ever developers start removing player agency citing it as increasing accessibility you know the design culture is moving in an 'interesting' direction.

yes going on craftofexile and simulating the most efficient way to get what you want because there are literally millions of possibilities which are impossible to even begin to calculate or mentally process without these advanced 3rd party tools was so engaging and fun and meaningful to the actual gameplay and it was also very appealing to the other 99% of gamers (just looking at the overall numbers and the volume of console players, poe 2 in its beta stage has already reached a VASTLY larger and broader audience than poe 1 ever did in over a decade) who refuse to touch PoE because of its genuinely unnecessary oversaturation (probably over 100 diff orbs/craft items/league systems at this point) and time-wasting complexity. there's nothing challenging about it you just have to waste your time studying wikis and youtube videos in your hideout like its some sort of a university course.

and the end result? same as any other game. better character, more power. and what's that for? so you can go around 1 shotting monsters that were already getting 1 shot when your character was 200 divines less geared anyway. lol.

truly revolutionary gameplay.

I don't agree with this ''bring back poe1 crafting'' cant we do something new, and improved please? They obviously scrapped it for a reason.
Last Epoch really has a great crafting system.

During the campaign, because of the abundancy of loot, it is trivial to get all the mats for the most common affixes, while the more valuable affixes are rare so you naturally get less mats from salvaging loot.

Then there's still the element of randomness when you upgrade each affix, and there's still the very real possibility of bricking items when a craft suddenly takes off a lot of crafting capacity.

But while the results are the same (bricking items), Last Epoch crafting just feels much, much better because of all the player agency in crafting.

In POE2, there is no player agency during the campaign simply due to the essences practically not existing. And then we are hit with stingy currency drops so we don't even get to do much, and what little we do, are limited to mostly Regals because we don't get enough Exalts during the campaign, so nothing we craft can really compare to good vendor loot.

So crafting during the campagin is next to non-existent in the first place, and when you finally get those lucky Regal and Exalt drops, 90% of them are wasted because of the RNG giving you completely useless or trash filler stats.

This game's crafting is tuned to require mass production. You Transmute 50 pairs of boots and maybe 30 of them will get a good enough affix worth keeping. Aug these 30 and maybe 15 will be worth keeping. Then you Regal them and maybe 5-8 will be worth keeping. Then you start Exalting and you may even end up with 0 that are better than what you have.

But you can't do that during the campaign because you don't have the currency.

This crafting system is really just an extremely simplistic multi-step random gamble that is straight-forward to implement, no real designs nor balancing done, paying absolutely no regards to player experience nor enjoyment in the whole design.

It's sad to see a big game like POE2 present a system like this in the year 2024, when a game like Last Epoch has already showed how much player agency could be given while still presenting an easy to understand and easy to use system, while maintaining all the failure chances required to pad playtime.

Hey now. That's not why it was fun for players.

They loved crafting because...

More numbereres getting higherer = more dopamine cuz me likey dice rolls. = 15,000 PoE hours.

I can see the appeal honestly. It's a gambling element. People like gambling. You have some control over it too. So you're rewarded for the effort.

But for me, it just ruins what an ARPG is about. Which is the gameplay cycle. Kill stuff, loot drops, kill more stuff, better loot drops.

they need to bring back poe crafting alongside affix tier order. They did huge mistake

They need to make actual loot instead of forcing us to make the loot. This whole "base item" system with currency is just outdated. It wasn't good before and it's not good now.

What they've done is taken all the excitement out of loot in a loot based game. Nothing that drops is exciting except for currency. If you get a divine, that's exciting, but only because you can use it to trade on a website in your browser. Do you get excited when you see a rare drop? A white or blue item? Hell, even 98% of the uniques suck.

There is no exciting loot. There is no crafting. You just get insanely lucky slamming dog shit items into Godlike ones or you don't. And 99.99% of the time, it's the latter.

Just the option to determinately craft one affix along the way would be light years better than this.
Even getting better essences is so hard. I never found any magical essence in Poe 2 since the start.
A complete joke
bring back the poe 1 crafting system please.
Totally agree, I don't have any intention of crafting after seeing what's available. Don't waste your time, use the trade site

what crafting system? You cant be calling slamming items crafting...

they essentially deleted crafting in the game and made health required. So good luck making items.

I can't be bothered, I have been playing 99% SSF and I have been slamming stuff for shits and giggles.

So far the stuff I slammed have kinda made me reach T 15 Maps.
Haven't tried Red maps though.

Pinnacle Bosses is definitely out of reach at the moment. But I am doing ok, but getting bored.

here are some stuff I slammed for my Monk.
