Hello, KyleMask#7189

Recently saw your build and saw how similar it is to mine

I also used cast on freeze, but later with the discovery of cast on crit switched to it and it procs much more effectively than freeze.
I focused on leveling up crit chance skills in the skill tree and got to ~50% on every skill.

What do you think about this?

The build was actually originally a Cast on Crit build when I started it! I’ve gotten most of my skills to about 40% crit as well so today when I get home from work I plan to take a look at my skill tree and see where I can drop freeze buildup for more crit and experiment with transitioning to cast on Crit as well! Hopefully finding some crit chance + crit damage gear along the way.

Going for Impetus on the cast on freeze has been a lot better for me, casting comet on every freeze instead of every 2 freezes is so much better for safety

Overall im thinking about dropping the idea of elemental storm and crit and just speccing for Scouring Winds instead, and droping the crit nodes on the tree in favor of more ES stuff like faster ES recharge

Im not having much luck finding a trial for the 5/6 points so idk how good elemental storm is first hand but im starting to think current tree might be spread too thin already

Elemental storm from what I’ve been seeing does do good damage to supplement what I’m already doing and it’s completely passive so it’s nice to have. However I may swap out of it for now until I get the last 2 points because a 5 second cooldown timer on it is pretty rough and I can’t take cool’s down reduction off frost wall, it’s way too good on that skill.

I’ve been currently chugging along with no issue without Impetus but I can test around with it later and see if I enjoy it better. I had planned to slot it when I got another gem socket on cast on freeze but it may be worth to put it in sooner.

And by all means my post was just to be a template for others to use and branch their own ideas off of! If you want to go more into Freezes and ES instead of crit go for it! This post was going to transition into Cast on Crit eventually so I’m trying to invest in enough crit to get to about 50%

If you're interested, I use impetus + 2x comets in cast on crit.
This annihilates bosses
What need have I for defence when my enemies are reduced to ash and splinters?

Yea, it just feels like going for crit is quite hard with the current gear limitations, il be following your progress closely to see how you fare but im probably going to branch off. I suggest you consider the Energize node aswell near CI as it looks really good for CoC

How are you surviving damage in general? Im doing better now but if i get caught out and either meleed or anything ranged hits me its like 1/3rd of my HP gone

I do get hit hard as well if I take a hit and ranged mobs are definitely the most dangerous to deal with. Largely I just try to play fairly cautious and am constantly pre-casting Eye of Winter to hopefully catch stuff with freezes before they can be a threat to me. Lots of dodge rolling if ranged mobs come into view and I’m not ready for them, tossing up a frost walls to block projectiles also helps a ton.

That’s actually a pretty interesting idea. I’ll mess around with it when I get the chance!

Yea it seems to be the same as i try to do, its a little mentally draining to walk on eggshells like this during maps but seems to be the only way to not get blown up

Thanks for the guide, im excited to see where this goes next

Yea unfortunately to me it feels like the only real option Sorceress has is either full committing to CI and stacking ES, or getting some Strength and going for hybrid armor ES pieces of gear. I haven’t seen much in the way of damage mitigation around our starting tree spot, and while life recoup is nice it doesn’t solve mitigating damage at all.

I'm currently undecided whether to use either Elemental Discharge or Impetus for Cast on freeze. Which do you think is better?

/edit:

It feels to me like Impetus is better (Mana isn't a problem for me though it procs more often). Another advantage is that I haven't used or needed Cold Snap since then.
