I am out. I want to like it so much - but it's just too hard to be fun.

Guys, chill out, it's only been out 1.25 days yet. Calm down with shitting on the game for it's performances and crashes. You bought into a Early Access game, and they didn't try to hide that fact... or you're one of the beggars for keys that got it free and still complaining ?

Game is different, and that's nice, we don't need another PoE1 clone or D4 clone, we got enough of that already. Plenty of people like that it's not just brainless clicker game. It's OK if that's not your cup of tea, but to bash the game like you're doing is completely disrespectful, and they do not deserve you as a player.
I find it slow, tedious, clunky and a slogfest souls-like bullet sponge game. Where is the action? The loot? The power progression? Where is the power fantasy?

This is why we see such a huge influx of... ... 'genius' IQ people praising the game right now. These are the same 'genius' people that get bored of the new hot game in 2 weeks and quit forever.

As a poe enjoyer, I would like to say that poe2 is a very good game.
So all you really end up having is playing the economy, and plowing maps. And if you want to get anywhere on your character, you are better off mowing monsters down like weeds and just collecting pennies of the ground as fast as possible than any meaningful item hunting.

This was a cash grab carpet pull game.

This is not fair!

It's just an EA version of the game. You may not like it but to call it a "cash grab carpet pull game" is completely crazy. Pretty sure they had/have a vision that is just different from what a lot of players want but not every game has to be for everyone.

agreed. chris announced this years ago and it's something they've put blood, sweat, and tears into. def not a cash grab.

with that said, faze's other points have some merit

So, I don't want to make a new thread to leave my thoughts, but since the title would be the same as yours, I'm just going to leave my thoughts here

I REALLY enjoyed the game. It took me a few weeks, but I FINALLY finished act 3. and when it threw me into crual I decided I'm done. I will come back when the game is out of EA, but I have NO desire to redo all of that.

I feel that the designers are trying to cater to the tryhards. I know many people enjoy super hardcore gameplay, but some people (like me) play to just have fun. I feel that every boss, enemy, and random minion could have their health dropped by 10-20 percent, and it would be ALMOST perfect, but clicking an a random mob over and over as you whittle their health became tedious REALLY fast

the MAIN reason I am not going to replay the first 3 acts in crual is because I cant afford to respect. this game REALLY punishes you for making a tiny mistake in your passives. it is stupid. just let us respec once an act or SOMETHING. having to pay 2-3k per point when you are lvl 40 is just untenable.

Other thoughts are that I hope you picked the right element to focus on! because as a lightning archer, I got NO drops. literally, I only found 1 or 2 lightning bows in my entire playthrough, and as far as I can tell there is NO lightning quivers. And yes, I checked the vender every time I went to town, and I tried gambling when I could afford it. Still didn't get any lighting gear worth anything.

I think gear is my BIGGEST gripe. To get good drops you MUST have rarity on your gear. but rarity on your gear is REALLY hard to get, and when you do find some it is often way under leveled. so you have do decided whether to wear bad gear with rarity of items found or to wear gear with higher evasion/armor. that makes the game way more tedious and un-fun

when the devs decided to tune their game to be playable by normal players on normal difficulty I will come back. but for now it is a fun game with MASSIVE flaws that will keep people from ever getting to endgame

Finally, I will forever struggle to play an ARPG without WASD for now on. WASD is proably 90% of why I loved the game. really, If POE1 or diablo had WASD movement I would have jumped ship and never looked back. it will be a must for me to keep playing ARPGs moving forward
POE2 is pure and utter garbage. You can't run it with DX11 or it lags terribly. DX12 crashes CONSTANTLY.

Thankfully I have a GPU that can use Vulkan. I don't crash at all with Vulkan. If I use DX12, I crash 1-2 times per hour. If you have a Vulkan-capable GPU, I highly recommend using that.

But beyond the crashes, the end game is terrible. I hate the endless atlas system. And you can't get atlas passive points into specific content (breach, delirium, etc.) without doing the EXPENSIVE and risky end-game mechanics.

Imagine having to spend 5+ div on an audience with the king just to get 2 points into your ritual passive tree. Insanely bad game design. And even worse, you need to complete 15/15 simulacrum to get 2 points into delirium passive tree! Whichever dev though this was a good idea should immediately be let go.

Then you've got the horrible crafting system. No alteration orbs, no scouring orbs. You need to pick up all the bases you see, RNG them to get garbage, and then use the 3:1 reforger to make new random (garbage) rares. Then maybe once in a while you'll get a rare worth 1-2 div.

The game does get much easier once you get geared, but the gearing up difficulty curve is WAY TOO STEEP. Getting started is just too hard. The campaign is long. No one is gonna want to play 40+ hours of campaign to get to maps every single season.

Hard can be fun

Put to one side the endless crashes. It's just too hard for me anyway. I am not a tryhard, just a guy who wants a fun game. This is not it.

I am giving up on a game for the first time in a long while. Dying over and over to the same boss over and over is just not a good use of my time.

Congrats to those who are enjoying it - can't see how GGG are going to make money on this - the playerbase will just die out in the next two weeks.

It sucks that you've had that experience. There's a lot of knowledge required to make even the campaign play like GGG intends. Most of the seasoned community don't realize how valuable their experience and knowledge is, so they can't understand your perspective.

You can be running around doing 15% of the DPS and have half defenses you need without even realizing it. Maybe they can add an NPC to each town that looks at your stats and makes a comment about your strength when you talk to them. "It looks like your defense is good, but you'll never make it with that offense." "You're too weak to make it here." "Not much will be giving you trouble will it?"

Additionally, I think a lot of new players aren't using the trade website. It's pretty much mandatory unless you really know what you're doing. I've played I think 5 characters through the campaign and all of them got enough exalted orbs to go snag 4-5 pieces of gear from the trade site.

I agree with your sentiment on new player retention. If GGG intends to keep a substantial percentage of first time players, they'll need to find some way to communicate expectations and/or make some changes to the game design. Here's to hoping that's the direction they go in. Adding an in-game browser for the trade site would be huge.

Yeah this hits the nail on the head for me. I hit level 92 with 6 deaths, and most of those were because I went AFK and forgot to pause. The game's not hard...it's just boring.

There's no loot in the game. Everything that drops is just a base that requires "crafting", but there is no crafting. You just RNG slam exalts and pray only to fail 99.9% of the time. Couple this with the fact that inventory management is straight out of 1995 and you have a real tedious experience.

Combat can be fun and engaging, but that's all the game has. Itemization is almost non-existent. Even the uniques suck. How they expect us to be excited about a loot-based ARPG with no loot in it is beyond me.

So the game essentially bubbles down to this:
1) Novelty of first time boss clears
2) Novelty of pretty graphics

and then the simps use this novelty to claim it's better / more successful than poe 1. it barely doubled the players on a game launch. Most games are gettin 1m + players and even for games that haven't been pushed on people like poe 2 was. ggg spent more on #ad and #sponsor for poe 2 than most devs spend on entire games lol
