PoE 2 - I hate trial of the sekhemeas so much
I never comment on these forums. I have to say something though in regard to this trial. Plain and simple, it makes me want to not play the game. I HATED the sanctum league in POE1, to the point where I just put down the game completely and walked away from it till the next league. Looks as though I'm not the only one.
That being said, I don't want to have to look up guides and watch 10 videos just to know how an encounter is going to play out before I even play the freaking game. So I fail on my warrior (which has been an absolute slog fest leveling due to lack of currency/drops) several times to get to through the second floor of this trial due to crap afflictions I can't avoid and then, FINALLY, I get a 40% speed boon that enables me to get to the sentinels with ~1200 honor with ~35% honor resist. I don't know the fight going in, I go for the fire dude first thinking, well, the ice guys is probably going to go apeshit with freeze-shit if I hammer him first and I have more fire resist than any other. What happens? Dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge, dodge, ad Infinium while trying to throw in a perfect strike, bone shatter and hammer drop only be splattered by a few slams I, amazing, don't dodge. Now I have to do this entire thing over again? Screw it. Not worth my time. Literally. In fact, I've lost any motivation I had left to even play the game. I'm totally up for a challenge. But this trial, its garbage. It is a colossal time-suck. It is way too penalizing in terms of neutering your character that should be able to face a challenge based on how you've geared it and built out the tree with the VERY limited resources available to it. I can't even imagine how bad the Trial of Chaos is going to be. The first one was bad enough with the warrior. My suggestion: Don't try reinventing the wheel guys. Stick with the tried and true paradigm that has been proven successful and FUN since we were playing MUDs: Scale your mob difficulty/mechanics appropriately and let us tackle them baddies with our characters as we've built them. And when we fail the challenge, throw us a bone and let us try again. Don't make the player feel regret for wasting our time and commitment. p.s. This is such a beautiful game and a visual treat. My hats off to you in that regard. |

I did two 4 Floor runs on my SSF Witchhunter with like a 200 dps crossbow and relics with 75% res and 75% max honour. I played a lot in Sanctum league and I don't find it too hard if I really focus and plan ahead and try to avoid bricking afflictions but what I dont understand is the sheer amount of HP on the very last boss. I can do normal T15 mapping and kill bosses with this dogass weapon in reasonable time but both of my runs ended because I couldn't kill this boss fast enough and I mean like 10+ mins of fights with dodging and rarely getting hit. All the other bosses and rooms were really not that bad but why does he have to have like 15x more HP than any other Boss so far when you have to put in so much effort to get there. If I can finish the whole run without problems, why should this guy gate me out of the 4th ascendancy???

" Because friction or whatever is good game design. |

" I was never a big fan of even doing lab in POE1 but looking back now it feels 10x better than just slapping some of the most annoying mechanics on POE2 for ascending. It even seems lazy tbh, why doesn't POE2 have its own standalone system for ascending or just a rework of the old one in POE2 style? A rework of the original would be nice. Maybe it is just a temporary fix for the EA/beta before implementing something else. I hope some of what we are seeing are just temporary mechanics to fill holes for the time being, if a lot of what we are seeing remains it is going to be hard to tolerate for any longevity. |

+1.
idk, both ways to ascend at the moment is just fucking torture, not designed around player enjoyment at all. If this stay core in the future it really is a dealbreaker for me. |

+1, please change.

" The reason lab was bad and disliked was because they tried to force this concept of traps and "careful gaming" with it in a game it didn't belong pacing wise or gameplay wise or expectation wise. You had to go through this tedious labyrinth filled with random axes that would one shot you (at the time, they 100% could) and it just was very unwelcome in general. Izaro and the fights were fine except for the odd special mechanic (like the turbo reflects (what were they thinking???)). Sanctum is the same thing except it's just way worse and designed worse than lab in every way. Having to pick and deal with massive turbo debuffs is an unfun gameplay loop and every step of the way it's just bad feeling after bad feeling and it's barely even something you can control because the sanctum map pathing is so restrictive. This is why I keep posting about how the game should be Path of Exile. There are too many mechanics where they are trying to shove in and force things that are not Path of Exile. It's fine for people to enjoy tower defense. But I am playing Path of Exile, why am I playing literal tower defense? Why am I playing auto battlers? Why am I forced to play Hades to enjoy the rest of Path of Exile? It's just poor design and it's diluting the game in a bad way. |

The final boss on level 4 has a wipe mechanic that requires players to have over 25% move speed boost. An hour of wasted effort for a mech my character cant complete because I lack movement ability or >25% boots is fun.

I beat Zarokh on my Witch Hunter and I have to say it, that boss has way too much HP, plain and simple. My main single target skill had 4 support gems; my crossbow has something like ~450 DPS, not amazing but not bad either. Worth special note is the fact that I also had the maximum bonus of Attrition which is a huge ~50% More damage bonus. With all those things and the boons Ornate Dagger (50% More Damage) and Sanguine Vial (-30% Monster life - is he counted as a Monster, even?), it still took me about 7-8 minutes to Cull him.
I don't think he should have such cheap mechanics while also having this overwhelming level of HP. Imagine having to kill this boss every league in his current state? Utterly unsustainable. This isn't even getting into the funny bonus reward relics he drops like the one that doubles his damage and makes him take 75% less - as if he wasn't tanky enough already. |

From the dev interviews, I thought the point was you get to choose which trials you do. I know find out after having done two trials of chaos, IP am being forced to do the trial of sekhemas. I detest the honour and trap thing.
I loved the game orignally but the more you play ther more negatives you begin to see. On top of this you have the armour being useless, minion counters are now broken stuffing respawn, map sustain, magic find has wrecked economy, etc. |
