For 9800X3D cpu what made a difference for me with multiple hard freezes was turning off X3D turbo mode in bios.

Same here.
I had the same issue in PoE1 as well, started for me in settlers league. Stopped playing because of that and did not find any working fix (fiddled around with CPU affinity etc.). On PoE1 the hard lock would also happen in huge packs of mobs, in PoE2 I only noticed it during loading screens as far as I can remember. Symptoms: CPU goes wild, background music keeps playing, moving mouse is laggy, no keyboard input possible, cannot enter task manager etc., no bluescreen. After a while mouse completely stalls too. One can leave the PC in this state for ages, it will not change to bluescreen by itself. Need to restart pc by holding power button for 3+ secs. Specs: - Windows 11 24H2 (build: 26100.2454) - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D - RTX 3070 |

I finally managed to deal with PC freezes on load screen but my solution won't be for everyone because I rolled back to Windows 10.
However, even after that I was still getting a game crash on loading to and from towns but after playing with settings in NVIDIA Control Panel this also stopped and I was able to enjoy the game for the whole evening yestarday with no issues. Settings I changed: 1) Vulcan/OPpen GL present method -> prefer layered on DXGI Swapchain 2) Low latency mode -> ultra 3) Power management mode -> prefer maximum performance 4) Triple buffering -> ON |

Sadly, issue still ongoing (Ryzen + Windows 24H2, which is what the common denominator seems to be for this specific lockup).
I have used Process Lasso to set the CPU Affinity for PoE to not use every CPU core (I have it set to use 14/16), but this has not solved the freezing issue, it's only made it so I can actually ctrl+alt+delete the process when it freezes instead of having to hard reset my . This morning I just tried 4 times to get into the game, 3 times it froze loading into the first area after selecting my character, and one time it froze at the loading screen before I even reached character select. I have had complete lockups happen twice, to black screen with a completely unresponsive PC.
The first time it happened, it took a few reboots of windows for it to load the GPU drivers again. I then played the entire day successfully. The second time the crash happened, I have not even been able to boot the PC to the BIOS. A white light stays on on the motherboard (that does not normally stay on), and it looks completely bricked. Both times, it happened when I started the game just after my computer woke up from sleep. Windows 10 Radeon 7900 XTX Ryzen 7800X3D [edit] Recovered the PC again after keeping it unplugged for about 15 minutes. It booted into windows with the GPU driver unloaded, and had to re-enable the GPU in the device manager. However, the PC crashed again immediately when starting up the client. This time even before logging into the game. Last edited by phor#7133 on Dec 9, 2024, 5:10:40 AM

For me, completely disabling Vsync in the game fixes it for 95% of the times.
It can still crash but it's a LOT less frequent now at least. 7700x , 32 gb ram , Windows 11 24h2. Last edited by nexus1712#3142 on Dec 9, 2024, 5:02:03 AM

" You should not need to do this. And besides, your GPU is now running full time at 3d clocks. increasing its idle power draw (even on the desktop!) to 40-50 watts , while doing nothing. this is highly undisirable. Try setting the power management to auto , and disabling vsync in the game. this should fix it, at least 95% of the time. at least it's better than your fix. |
