How bad does cast on freeze nerf affect this build?

Just reached act 3(cruel).
Dropped CoF for a while to try blink since they changed CoF. i'm commiting to Comet ATM Running: Cold Snap - Conc Effect, Controlled Dest, Elemental Focus frost Bomb - Mag Effect, strip Away Mana tempest - Premeditation Frost Wall - Deep Freeze, Spell cascade, Glaciation Blink - Second Wind, Ingenuity(still don't know if it works, trying to figure it out) Hypothermia - Expanse, Heigh Curse, Persistence Comet(Boss) - Hourglass, supercrit, inevitable crit (Don't think it's the best supports, would like some help here) Comet(Filler/Clear) - Arcane Tempo, Spell Echo And yeah, i'm just rocking 2 comets... doing actually good damage, usually the echoed comet kills anything white-blue. I went full Dynamism and got a +10% Meta skills gain 6% increased energy skill gem - and honestly it feels very much the same.
I'm at 143% Energy gain modifier on COF with Impetus. I'm sort of tempted to dump my 50ex and build the EG to +200% and see the results, but I'm almost convinced it would have the same effects as cast speed. Did anyone try Elemental Invocation instead of COF? Gains 125 Energy when you Freeze an Enemy Gains 25 Energy when you Ignite an Enemy Gains 25 Energy when you Shock an Enemy Seems to have good base synergy with Freeze. You could build a hybrid ignite build that would spam Frostbolt rapidly re-apply freeze and high CS. I'm unsure how the energy mechanics would behave around that. " Energy Gain Modifier changed to 152% with elemental invocation - 9% increase. Energy gained per power of frozen enemies from 10>12. Abysmal increase for a -100 gain in intelligence and +90 gain in Dexterity. I will see if there are any dexterity support gems that give some interoperability with this build. Additionally EI builds *extremely* slow - BUT it stays on whatever % you stop killing mobs at. Note, this only builds up your energy to 100% value - then lets you USE the ability to release a meteor. i tested...
for now its pretty much unusable. i mean CoF is dead. before u would go all the way from start to end just casting smth to freeze and watch rain of comets. now comet falls every like 4-5 packs of mobs. so its not viable for clearing anymore whatsoever. it just can "HELP"... sometimes... so we need to cast smth to clear white packs. i mean u can do that with frost bomb but its still at least "CLUNKY" and slow... u need to wait for explosion... cast speed on comet is so slow u get hit by mobs. i would like some eye of winter usage but the damage is oh so great that u can actually scratch some backs of the mobs lol. i will try to come up with smth later on gl guys. stay safe -------------------- so basically... u cant do any quick build with cold spells sadly. thats like brutal AF. witch can do minion builds which are OP as fck... ranger has gas cloud explosion which is just hilarious... we saw some posts ago what the monk can do trolololo today i also saw monk doing full time flicker... i dont like it. i think i will either reroll char completely or will try to do smth else entirely with this build but sadly CHRONOMANCER ASCENDANCY nodes suck a little... not much what we can do with them... we are doomed for slow gameplay. ------------- forgot to mention im lvl 73 atm. maps without CoF are a little sad... and tell me what will u do when u get the content like breach / expedition? cause u can clear maps ok-ish. but if we are talking about clearing lots and lots of fast mobs like in breach, well... i cant imagine playing this way Last edited by fantafff#1729 on Dec 12, 2024, 1:18:15 AM

Honestly Ice Nova w/ Frostbolt may still be perfectly fine for clearing. When it's cast on Frostbolt it has an extra 50% Freeze buildup, add Glaciation and maybe Magnified Effect and it's great at freezing packs of enemies. Then just cold snap everything to cleanup. It's a lot of manual clearing but it's at least relatively safe.
I've also been trying this: " Arcane Tempo plus Spell Echo on Comet is pretty great. Maybe add Magnified Effect to that for a wider AoE if it slots on. I try to always cast it on Frost Wall to explode them and it's been doing a decent job at clearing mobs. The only problem is it's far less safe than freezing mobs outright, especially in wide open maps where you can't funnel enemies as well with your walls.. the point is that our build got fcked so hard that it just isnt build anymore. its just using some spells to try to clear mobs. other ascendacies and builds got actual gamplay where they can kill fast and effective. we need to strugle to clear maps right now. strugle in sense of time and effort. i know CoF was overpowered but its now unusable.

Basically been trying every other cold spell in Comet's place in CoF to see if any of them did anything remotely usable.
Not luck so far. Some of them do proc pretty easily, but they hit like wet noodles and just eat mana for mostly nothing. I suppose that with it proccing "for free" on bosses, we could slap hypothermia (70 max energy) on it and that would save us 1 button. Get it applied on every freeze on bosses for a nice damage window. Spirit cost doesn't seem worth doing this tho. "It's due to this (new?) part in the Maximum Energy description: Since Comet has a 1s cast time "+1s to total cast time", it counts as a 3 second cast time spell. |
