And just as I wrote...this is a brand new game. There is no precedent. You want to see it as an extension of PoE 1 but it is not. Your rationale is based on PoE 2 requiring the same set of rules and mechanics as an entirely different game.

really? i don't know about you but i see a 2 in the title. you also ommited the logical argument, but i guess its a hard one to challenge lol
not being able to remove runes simply means players will hoard items/runes and never use them unless SSFing.

even back in older arpgs we could choose to salvage our gear OR runes.

Yep it will be just like how players used to hoard exalts and not use it on their items. Unless perfect versions of the best runes are easy to get which is unlikely.
I was hoping there would be no gear maintenance in poe 2 but here we are with sockets which i’m sick of seeing in every fucking arpg. And we can’t remove the runes. So you craft or find a chest upgrade but don’t have the rune so you just have to wait and trade just to wear your gear? Yikes.

Not being to remove runes is fine, but not being able to *replace* (destroying the socketed ones) suck. There should be way to clear the sockets.

An unique with socketed crappy rune becomes worthless. Maybe that's on purpose, to remove stuff from the trade economy, but that really sucks.
Rune system in current state is like gems in Torchlight 1 and 2. System from 2009-2012 years. But even in those games you can broke gems to get empty sockets or broke item to get your rare gems.

This system always was stupid.

Free use for sockets and runes make it much better and allow fine tuning at any game stage.

Yes I think it's retarded having to change your entire equipment just to replace a rune, this definitely needs to be changed to be able to at least equip a new ruin on, I'm not saying the ability to extract but at least insert a new one.
+1 - if ggg doesnt want us to unsocket a rune, at least let us override them with new runes, this way we still lost the rune but didnt brick the item for no reason.
as is right now when you finally manage to get a good item, hit the jackpot on vaal orb and acquire third rune you dont want to slot any in there coz the moment you do that item value drops too much and you cant really experiment with it either: ie everyone is just slotting flat damage on weapons instead of trying out the cool runes like elemental pen and build up etc
