Game freezes on loading screen
Been crashing since about 2 months into Settlers. Chanced the Multithreading and over to Vulcan which has worked for 2 days no freezes/crashes. Hope it helps someone.

Same issue as many others - Settlers worked fine, but have been getting load screen crashes consistently on Necro Settlers. Switched to DX12 and the issue seems to be resolved.

Have you tried turning off Game Mode in windows? Seems to have fixed it for me, although a bit early to s ay for sure (about 10-15 zones no problem now)

It's soooooooooooooooooooo F annoying....

" Disabling game mode does nothing for me. Disabled it, launched PoE. Instant crash on first zone load. Edit: Ugh. Launched again, load to oriath docks successfully, transition to my hideout, crash during transition. Last edited by Anathema123#0851 on Nov 16, 2024, 8:29:48 AM

At this point I'm not sure what it is, but whatever fix people have suggested, I've done (apart from rolling back to Win11 23H2 since I cant). You can go 2-3 hrs without a freeze/lockup/crash and then next time crash multiple times just loading into the game into town, town into hideout, hideout into first portal etc.
Only thing that I've found that's helped is turning cores 0 and 1 off in the CPU affinity, at least allows you a chance (90% chance) to be able to alt-tab and end task instead of having the whole system lock up and have to physically hit the reset button on your case. Although I did have 1 time where the game froze, I was able to end task, but then windows was still a stuttering mess that I was forced just to restart the PC anyway, in my mind tells me something is happening in the PoE application that is causing a kernel crash in Windows 11. I wait for some sort of holy grail fix from either GGG or Micro$oft. A shame really as I didn't get to play base 3.25 due to work commitments and was looking forward to Necro Settlers to say that I've played it. I know I wasn't having issues like this in 3.24. " It's Windows 11 24h2, that's exactly what it is. After the two crashes in a row yesterday I played the entire rest of the day with zero issues. Hundreds of zone transitions, juiced maps, everything absolutely fine. This morning, I launch the game with core 0 disabled as always. Immediate crash upon loading into oriath docks. Interestingly and annoyingly - unable to recover without a hard reboot. Not the same behaviour as with all cores enabled for PoE. Mouse cursor continued to move. Youtube audio kept playing, but the display image stopped updating. Considering the browser, networking, audio drivers etc by definition have to still be operational for the video to continue to play in the background, I'm actually suspecting that 'under the hood' everything is still working, but the image output isn't getting updated. I'm going to write a script to force kill the PoE process so I can blindly invoke it if the crash occurs to validate this theory. Edit: Script done; Second launch of the day: get to Oriath docks just fine, crash when going to /hideout. Didn't fully lock the system but at least the script works as a baseline. 5h downtime, can you guys check and try to fix or give us solution to PC crash situation ?

" The downtime was for account migration and linking in prep for PoE II etc. Wouldn't have fixed anything to do with the issues here (I would assume...) I've noticed some weird behaviour in World of Warcraft also last night when alt tabbing, like it hangs for 5 seconds, and 1 crash. Very similar to what's happening with PoE. I've found a source for the Win11 23H2 ISO and am getting ready for the nuclear option of clean installing Windows 23H2 (all my data/games etc is on a separate drive to windows so shouldn't be too bad). If it fixes everything - great. If not, I can always "update" back to 24H2 using Windows Update. I'm using Chris Titus tech WinUtils to prep the ISO and remove all the Win11 garbage. Then will use it again once windows is installed to disable all updates except for security patches. Will update everyone on how it goes.. EDIT: Ill also leave this here as it might be part of the problem. See if you have access to kb5044384, meant to fix hangs and crash issues in 24H2 from Alt-tabbing. Sounds alot like whats happening in our case. Issue is the update is getting rolled out "gradually" https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1gbuhz6/update_kb5044384_for_win_11_24h2_says_it_fixed/ Last edited by NukezzUU#3513 on Nov 18, 2024, 12:34:39 AM
