trashing peoples characters in standard.

its ok. i dont play standard so its whatever, i just dont see why they had to do it now. for years the tree changed every now and then and people never had to put in all 90+ points one by one. just the points that changed. free full respec was also offered but was optional. i always clicked no i dont want to reset. but now i have no option. i'm suprised no one else is annoyed by this. i guess everyone saves all their builds in pob these days
It's nothing new. Been going on for many years. Any time a substantial change is made to the skill tree which affects a character build, you may get an option to reset (so you can use the new tree if you want), or you may receive the prompt to respec because the tree has changed too much. It's really a matter oof whether or not you had assigned nodes which are no longer there, or are disconnected from your character's point of origin.

Nothing to get excited about. Sorta like some old characters which don't have all the waypoints because those waypoints didn't exist when you played the campaign with them. =^[.]^=

Is it trashing them though?

What it is telling you is that passives have been significantly changed but most likely passives have been moved or removed entirely.

So instead of leaving your character trashed and requiring 100+ regret orbs to "fix" they just give you a full passive refund, giving you the opportunity to respec as close as you can to your old build or even improve it.

it would be better to just have it as an option. i rather have my builds a bit gimped than not be able to play them at all. they are unplayable i dont remember all my trees and would need to find the old build guides for them.

What?

The "old build guides" are for a passive skill tree which literally does not exist anymore, so you'd be doing that anyway.

This thread makes zero sense.

you act like they changed the entire tree for the build...no they changed a tiny bit around and because of that every single point needs to be re allocated one by one. that is what makes zero sense. i mostly play witch and my passives are nowhere near the left bottom of the tree which is what got changed so why i need to redo the entire tree is beyond me.

I only play standard, revisit every league patch exactly to fix passive trees, atlas, and map tab (and to check if GGG broke my map device animations again:)), and what you describe is highly unusual, I never had whole tree reset on first login after patch, for a number of leagues.

Tree may be pruned at the top if they remove or rework a cluster, but central path +10 attribute nodes never change.

When did you last logged in to standard?

this was on a character i played last league in necropolis. i also tried one from affliction. both had a complete wipe. i highly doubt there were some major changes with the tree since last league to warrant this. maybe its a bug but i cant be bothered to email them about it and ask. its done now so whatever,

It's not a bug, it happened before and it will happen again in the future. You get the forced reset if too much stuff has changed where the line for "too much" lies is something only GGG knows though. It doesn't really matter whether the build is from necropolis or legion, if the changes this league are effecting it enough you get the forced wipe.
you sure its not a bug? this is what i get on all the chars i checked. why does it say i have 122 points left? we can only have 100 points...
