^ Who is the new CM for PoE? Thats news to me.

This question tells everything you need to know about how important/relevant CM is in this game.

I already knew the answer to this.

There isn't one, and won't be one. GGG switched to a community team because of how toxic the environment around PoE has become. (Left Reddit as well)

I'd argue that communication and community management is relevant and important, but unfortunately the PoE playerbase that engaged with GGG absolutely poisoned this well. There is no going back I don't think.

Just to clarify, my point is CM in this game were always useless. It's like a decoration in their offices to fool people into thinking they care and are listening.

Not saying they should listen to everything players say, otherwise this game would be long gone. Still, they have a history of changing things for no reason other than piss everybody off (like the Harvest nerf back in Ultimatum) or not listening (Melee buff when).

I mean you can't really blame GGG specifically for player behavior. Sure there might be developmental things GGG does that are unpopular, or cause discontent, but wild reactions and personal insults shouldn't be part of that. Shit, the community is toxic with itself without GGG even being involved. Go check out Reddit and TFT/Discord. It's fucking messy.

That said, when you hire someone to manage the community at large, there has to be some expectations that's it's not always going to be sugar and rainbows, and that the individual needs to have tough skin when it comes to online content. (Death threats and personal attacks aside)

There will be trolls and those emboldened by internet anonymity. I do not think the answer is communicative abandonment. I think GGG got that part wrong.

i agree with you halfway. coz yeah. you're right. trolls will be trolls. and there will always be trolls. but if the gaming company does something to upset the entire community... more of them could turn toxic.

i imagine poe community would be turn super toxic if ggg suddenly announced that we could now buy mirrors with RMT and went full p2w.

yeah i over exaggerate, but its just to highlight that most of us are quiet and dont engage with the devs. but if the devs do something that a large portion of the community becomes unhappy, backlash is inevitable. it happened with helldivers. d4 devs were the butt of jokes for the longest time.

but i would say ultimately, a lot of it comes from love. my ex once told me, if you hate me you actually still love me. similarly, people turn toxic if the game they love changes in the way they dont like. well some people do, some dont. preferably we all dont.

i myself have been very vocal against ggg. i cant recall if i was very toxic. if i was i apologize. whatever i posted was how i felt during the time. passionate people tend to get triggered more easily. and some people react more actively than others. which is a double edged sword. it shows that the game is loved.

There was a time I thought PoE's community was toxic (esp. Reddit and SC global 1) but then a friend convinced me to install CS:GO and play with him. Boy, there's a world of a difference there haha

That being said, while it could always be worse, it could also be better. I wished people were more considerate of others. This "gamer passion" should only extend to criticizing the game but never to personal attacks or even threats against its developers & staff members.

When whats-his-face streamer got perma'd from PoE I actually cheered. The fewer places there are where this toxic mindset can flourish, the better

lol mobas are toxic AF too.

once upon a time i was "not bad" at LoL. i dont play ranked but sometimes i would be the mvp in pub games (self declaration yeah i know lol).

if you suck, your team mates are toxic
if you're good, your opponents are toxic
if your team sucks, everyone is toxic
if your opponent sucks, everyone is toxic

its like you cant play without trashtalking.

i forgot why i quit LoL. its a fun game and i was "skilled enough". so after many years i came back. the game had changed so much. runebooks were replaced by something else. my fav hero got reworked. i ended up sucking ass in the first game i played in.

during that game, one of my teammates asked me to go. i was wondering. go where? top? mid? etc. so i asked. go where?

he told me, go play mobile legend bang bang
in other words gtfo. lol

at the end of that game i uninstalled and took a mental note to remind myself never to touch LoL.

CS players are highly competitive too. and toxic. its not uncommon people get into fights in cybercafes back when i frequented them.

the way i see it is an olive branch. its like how my company feels appreciated if we have an account manager to handle our concerns.

technically, the company has its own helpdesk and customercare service that does the same thing. but having an account manager is a next step.

i think a better analogy is CM's are the HR department. any new policies or announcements go thru HR. they are the face of the company and suffer the brunt of all disgruntled employees.

bex had a good run in her early years when GGG kept hitting what most players wanted. it might have skewered her expectations of CMing. working at riot maybe could have caused her to no longer want anything to do with CMing. but thats just my theory. i would not want that job myself.
