Did Bex return to GGG?

This is getting a bit creepy/stalkery folks...

Bex used the official GGG X/Twitter channel as an outlet similar to her own personal blog. Furthermore she was very moody when faced with criticism, resulting in valid complaints being met with her blocking the poster.

This was just the tip of the iceberg. When she got a new job at RIOT she seemed pretty OK with that, but now that she's moving on to another job within a year that's usually a sign that something didn't work out. This is purely speculation, mind you, but if both parties benefit from her working there then there is no reason to move on, is there?

Food for thought.

Riot hired her for the planned MMO, and then pretty much canned the project a few months later, making the position they hired her for effectivelly redundant. That's what happened.

The use of the word is quite superfluous, but people are just so parasocial online. They just think they know a person like Bex, even creating petitions to "hire her back."

What if she left of her own volition?
What if she doesn't want to work there anymore?

I get that speculating is fun, but really I find it to be crossing comfort and privacy borders. While Bex is a very online person, that doesn't mean we get to demand to know about her private life and private decisions. People are wild

I'm not an economist by any stretch of the imagination, but I believe "value" in currency is set by those who believe in that value. Most times, it's because of rarity, obviously; however, I always wondered that despite that divine/exalt change if ... only if... people playing the game still placed more value into exalts thereby negating that forced change a few leagues ago?

That would have been the biggest LOL of all time: GGG says divines are more valuable and the community says.. NA brah.. exalts still are !

And.. tbh here, I've played a few leagues after that change and exalts drop only slightly more often than divs and when I say "slightly" it more like next to never at times.

I'm prolly not making much sense here, so hopefully someone can paraphrase my words a little clearer :)

value is set by those that believe it has value. players valued exalts more than divines at a time mainly because of meta crafting costs (IIRC).

ggg changed the meta crafting costs and thus the value of the 2 currencies suddenly flipped. IIRC divines were 12c (tabula rate) and exalts were 150-200c.

last i played exalts were 10-20c while divines were 150-250c.

so yeah the values switched and hurt people badly.

when youre talking about temp leagues, you would not feel anything as this flip barely affects you. you adapt and switch from exalts to divines and everything is fine.

but for the standard player, it hurts real hard. its like working for a country earning USD. saving up a butt ton of money then suddenly for some weird reason USD value drops to 10% of what it used to be. then "biden" came out and said something like "hah! you guys should have diversified your investments..." and chuckled away.

Thanks for this detailed and thoughtful response. I get the picture now :)

no problem.

a lot of changes really dont affect temp leaguers. its frustrating for standard players that their hard work and effort can just get voided.

the alternate quality skill gems was another example. getting a specific alt quality skill gems were rare enough where some cost maybe 10-20 divines, while a 21/23 corrupted version would be worth a ton.

i spent a lot saving up in temp leagues to buy the ones that was good for my build. i spent maybe 100s of divines?

now all of them are downgraded to the basic ones. other people could have spent even more.

This question tells everything you need to know about how important/relevant CM is in this game.

I already knew the answer to this.

There isn't one, and won't be one. GGG switched to a community team because of how toxic the environment around PoE has become. (Left Reddit as well)

I'd argue that communication and community management is relevant and important, but unfortunately the PoE playerbase that engaged with GGG absolutely poisoned this well. There is no going back I don't think.

for sure there are many unhinged gamers out there that would go mental, as far as insulting and even issuing death threats.

but on the flipside. these people have always existed. they remain hidden and are a small fraction of the community.

i cant defend these people regardless, just that GGG did in fact make changes to the game that was met with huge backlashes. ggg staff does not deserve insults/threats but i reckon the frequency of such bad behaviour increased due to stuff that ggg did.

I mean you can't really blame GGG specifically for player behavior. Sure there might be developmental things GGG does that are unpopular, or cause discontent, but wild reactions and personal insults shouldn't be part of that. Shit, the community is toxic with itself without GGG even being involved. Go check out Reddit and TFT/Discord. It's fucking messy.

That said, when you hire someone to manage the community at large, there has to be some expectations that's it's not always going to be sugar and rainbows, and that the individual needs to have tough skin when it comes to online content. (Death threats and personal attacks aside)

There will be trolls and those emboldened by internet anonymity. I do not think the answer is communicative abandonment. I think GGG got that part wrong.

There was a time I thought PoE's community was toxic (esp. Reddit and SC global 1) but then a friend convinced me to install CS:GO and play with him. Boy, there's a world of a difference there haha

That being said, while it could always be worse, it could also be better. I wished people were more considerate of others. This "gamer passion" should only extend to criticizing the game but never to personal attacks or even threats against its developers & staff members.

When whats-his-face streamer got perma'd from PoE I actually cheered. The fewer places there are where this toxic mindset can flourish, the better
