Is this what it means "throwing the towel"?

Two months into the league on a Wednesday evening in North America there's 8,500 steam accounts and most expect the league to last another month and a half. Why does GGG care so much about releasing new leagues/content when they're not addressing a more pressing matter, which is what they can do NOW (during this league) to boost retention.


Did GGG go broke, threw the towel (gave up) or is this why more and more now are choosing to support a company "gradually" rather than spend $500-1000 within a year only to realize no matter how much they've spent/supported their favorite game it's never enough, or at least not enough at times like this to even host/promote any event.

It also feels the many patches they kept releasing through the last month and a half "fixing" the league were intended now for these 8500 online accounts on steam. Restart the league, start some event this Friday, do something, because doing nothing is a lot worse. Last league during the Gauntlet a single PoE streamer averaged 10,000+ viewers or did GGG miss that?

I think it's a lost cause at this point.

The people running the game probably look at a profit break point, see they met it, and have moved on.

It is a business after all.

All that said, I just started the league a week ago, and am having fun. Pretty cool twist on the spreadsheet play.

The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
GGG tried several improvements and solutions to the league - and some of them made things worse (yes, I'm looking at you, Rogue Allflame).

It's not like they didn't try to fix things, but this league (even though I found it fun) was beyond saving on some areas. And we all know negativety spreads like wildfire in online communities.

But several people over at GGG have been pretty clear in the past; people taking breaks from the game or quitting the league after a month or so isn't necessarily a negative thing in the long run. As I see it, 'most' people that quit this league did so because of the league itself, not the direction of the game as a whole. Meaning they will probably be back next league, depending on the league mechanics.

Leagues come, leagues go. This was objectively a failure when it comes to retention and popularity. It doesn't have to mean much in the long run.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

I know the OP is nonsense from a known troll...

But I am like 99% sure there WILL be events coming for the last month of the league. Just like the last time the league died quite early on, I forget when it was but I think Kalandra? That was when we had 4 or 5 week-long, two-week long events that they only started advertising like 2 weeks beforehand.

I don't think there's much effort on their part to have these things run. Just flip the switch and let all hell break loose for a week. They tend to be voided anyway.

This said it's possible steam clients get tired of the game quickly, while it's also possible that many of the players left are bots since botting developped itself alot in very last years with the success of the game.
