Upgraded my 1060. It looks like a brand new game.

The video card in my HTPC died so I decided to move my current 1060 over there and buy something a bit better for the gaming PC. I play at 4k by the way. I thought the 1060 was good enough(I'm old and remember playing Quake on dialup with a 300 ping). My 4060 arrived today. I was expecting better framerates but was shocked at how much better everything looked in general, even before tweaking any settings.

I'm going to be building a new PC in a few months(POE II) and will move the 4060 to the HTPC and go for a 4080 or better but just wanted to let anyone who is sitting on the fence about an upgrade that it is totally worth it.

Gonna be getting a new PC in anticipation of PoE2.
Could you list which components you were using alongside the 4060?
Thanks in advance!

Same culture shock I had after upgrading my 12-year pc. After years of stutter and flicker and grainy fuzzy, I went delving (didn't have a filter yet so wanted something that was light on drops heheh) and the game looked almost cartoonish it was so sharp and responsive. (After giving the graphics sliders a nudge in the "more" direction it looked even better! Who knew?)

When you're used to your view of the game being a hot mess, on the lowest settings, it's deffo a different game.

I always have to bug my friends to upgrade their junk machines. Don't waste time trying to justify spending extra money on something you use every day, it's always worth it
It's always worth it to stay somewhat up to date with hardware to enjoy gaming properly.
Decade old stuff just doesn't really cut modern games well these days hoho
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

Oh, nice! You bought new hardware so the developer will not waste their time on the optimization and just add new particles. I hope someday minimum system requirements will include RTX 4060. You virtually "optimized" your game by your pocket.

Yes, so what?
When were you ever able to run modern games properly on old hardware? My computer is going on 7 years now and still runs PoE (with a 1060) well enough for my taste.
In the past you wouldn't have been able to play a modern game on that old hardware.
And don't say "But PoE is more than 10 years old". The franchise is, but the engine is surely not the same that it was back then.

It's true, though, I'd prefer if devs just kept requirements low, because that is also true these days: games can look good enough without needing a 4080.

poe 2 isnt gonna be gpu reliant but still cpu reliant and why would you play poe on 4K that make no sense you want smoothness in poe over graphics people play it on 1080 or 1440P becuz game like this still doesnt look at 4k

.

It's always been like this since years in every game. Better and more powerful hardware allows games to look modern and not like decade old outdated shit.
And yes in a couple of years a 4060 or equivalent will be the bare minimum standard while everyone else goes with the time and rocks on a 7080 and perfect gaming performance.
