Characters sent to void league on death should NOT be a map mod
Just give it “Map only opens one portal”. All the weird griefing concerns gone.
Edit: oh, hang on, brain not working this morning. No, that doesn’t fix that. I guess you’d need to do “map can only be entered by its creator” or something. Last edited by GusTheCrocodile on Dec 12, 2023, 3:06:26 PM

Malicious people have always been around in this kind games. PK players in D2 for example. Now they can pay money to add their malicious intent to the game ;P
Joke's on them though. Last edited by Strickl3r on Dec 12, 2023, 3:52:38 PM

" dont get me wrong, but most people on reddit, are mostly on reddit, and barely even finish campaign... and hey, if you spend 480$ on a game, you're rather invested to it, which also means that the chances are rather high that you know what a voided league/ character is. i really dont understand the fuzz about it, valdos puzzle box is an item that gives you a map, which guarantees a particular item. if you dont want to risk you character for a foiled item, just dont do it, sell the map, easy, done. just dont try and sell your FOMO as if it was in general interest ;) TLDR YOU DONT HAVE TO RUN EVERY KIND OF CONTENT WITH YOUR LEAGUE STARTER THAT YOU DONT WANT TO INVEST, IT IS OKAY TO SKIP OPTIONAL CONTENT! If you dont like it, skip, or dont play the game, but dont complain with the goal to make the game more appealing to you. " same here, pure FOMO... why shouldnt completely optional content have such mods? is it because you dont wanna have any risk for a celestial foil mageblood? " Er, no. I've no interest in a celestial foil Mageblood. Remove foils, Mageblood, Headhunter and every other chase unique from softcore and I'm still playing, because this game is awesome. Softcore should not void characters, period. On top of which, this is pay to grief. Last edited by Genstein on Dec 12, 2023, 7:37:52 PM

a long far way from how they used to be. [Removed by Support]

I think OP's core argument, which we're really struggling to stay focused on, is that a mod which doesn't exist in any other locations is something most players wouldn't think to look for, and being blindsided by it would cause most players to immediately quit playing the game.
Rewards are honestly not relevant. I agree that having this exist in any form which is not very clearly spelled out with multiple "Are you SURE?" type messages when you open the map is a terrible addition to the game. |

" Soooooo you basically just said, you can literally ignore the existence of that map mod. why not just do that? instead of bothering? Some people might like the extra part of challenge, why not just let them have it? plus, all the complaining about the mod... just saying, it is also fully optional for a supporter to actually pick that mod. And instead of complaining about the whole "yea but you might actually autopilot and not see the mod" thing, how about we rather ask for some sort of colour code or an confirmation check upon opening the map? that's pretty much the easiest solution. "by entering the map, you risk to void your character, are you sure you want to proceed?" yes no easy Last edited by SquareCubiC on Dec 12, 2023, 11:33:39 PM

One word of advice to the whiners: don't autopilot your maps like a dumb monkey.

" If people want to play hardcore, cool, enjoy. If people want to play softcore but opt in to hardcore-style play for a particular challenge, given the potential for griefing and honest mistakes, it seems to me the negatives outweigh the positives. If other people disagree and feel the balance is in favour of those who want the challenge, cool, I disagree, but respect that view. I guess we'll see what happens. " Agreed this is a bare minimum to avoid unprecented levels of griefing, if this goes ahead. Sirgog suggests in a recent YouTube video that players should have to type their character name. Good mitigating steps. Or GGG could, I mean this is just a thought, not permit mechanics which void characters in softcore. And avoid supporter packs which permit players to pay money to permanently negatively affect other people's characters, indirect or otherwise. Someone should make a thread about one of those, if they could come up with an example. | |
" the only grief that would happen, would come from the player entering tho... take your time, read the mods, make up your mind whether you wanna risk it or not... no griefing here and i really dont understand what the actual issue is... the key word is player agency. the player gets the map, sees the reward, looks at the mods, leading to a risk-reward-possibility evaluation, which then results in running the map, or skipping it. no one forces the player to do anything, the player acts upon free will. if you risk to void your character for a kaoms sign, well... do it if you risk it for a mageblood, well... do it! keep in mind, we're talking about a guaranteed drop, with a (depending on your ingame knowledge) 100% predictable risk. if you mindlessly enter a map with hidden, formed and forgotten at a player power stage in which you barely kill acid caverns bosses, well... this is upon you. player agency, you decide what you do i for example have chosen a nimis, an uber only drop. of course i wouldnt want that item to be super easily obtainable, so i added all influences and forgotten to the map, as well as "send to void if died". and i chose those mods with having in mind what i consider challenging but at some point achievable. my thoughts were not to grief anyone, obviously, because that would mean i would potentially grief myself, lol. i sort of understand your train of thought, but then again, although i often enough autopilot as well, think that a bare minimum of attention can be demanded by the players. Without the intention of defamation, this is not roblox or fortnite, the majority of players are, at least on paper, adults, and as such i chose what mods are on the map i submitted. also with the thought in mind, that many players might simply not run the map, and if they did, i hope they dont fail it, or at least log out before they die. if they died, well... sh*t happens. might sound a bit harsh, but, should have known better. you cant go to a casino, risking money you rely on to pay monthly bills, and in the end be mad at the casino. and before you or anyone says "but i wouldnt go to the casino and do that". no one has to enter that completely optional content either. I would not agree on the "type you character name" approach, because... well... personally speaking... some of my names are just long, or even use fancy ascii stuff. a simple yes or no dialogue shoud be more than enough, if anything. |
