when does this game get less confusing?
" f(x) = y how did you get y? where did it come from? hours of painstakingly crafting f(). you can press one button and get an output, but that doesn't mean the program (or build) to make it work isn't extremely complex lol. Last edited by valarias on Oct 2, 2023, 11:33:52 AM

Every league I learn new stuff about old skills or mechanics, and I love it.
Knowing it all is the destination, and it's 99.9% chance a place I'll never reach, but I am really enjoying the journey.
The answer here is of course "when you learn". The game doesn't do a good job of teaching you much, so it's currently up to you to seek that knowledge.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

most of the league mechanics are entirely optional so you don't have to learn everything. I have like 4000 hours and I've never done heist, blight or sanctum

Almost jealous of you mate...I started when Piety was the final boss on Act 3.
The game has so many different ways to play, but it comes down to how you want to play it i.e. fast-mapper/boss-killer/delver etc. Fustrating as fuck? Yup. Worth it? Yup. -Time to be funny. The world needs funny right now! Warning: "Might" get you muted.
25 Exalts...oh God my stupidity stuck! Now onto 25 Divines... |

" Oh wow... Piety was the last boss back then? Dang, that must have been ages ago. I joined in sometime in 2013 but only to try the game. I came back during Legion and fully devoted my time then. Always thought the final boss then was Malachai before the Oriath expansion "For we are not now that strength, which in old days moved Earth and Heaven. That which we are, we are; one equal strength of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will: to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Ulysses, Tennyson

PoE is a terrible teacher, so a lot of the learning is on the player to be both attentive and proactive. It doesn't help that the game moves at a thousand miles an hour in both its game play, and in terms of how many new ideas it throws at you per act (though it runs out of ideas at roughly act 7, before flooding a bunch more in maps).
The key is try and focus on one concept until you feel you have a grip on it. Yes the game will throw a ton at you, put those into 'later me's problems'. You'll get through the game on the passive tree and skill gems alone, and most of the mechanics stuff for the mini-games are just cutting possible loot, if you do bad on a blight all you've lost is imaginary loot, to which there is a limitless supply of. This is why I often suggest people do a first character in Ruthless, as the demands of its harder is a reduction in systems, which helps easily overwhelmed players (i.e new players) focus on just the basics, as thats all Ruthless offers. " Games had a lot of 'final bosses' over the years, depending on exactly 'when' was. Mervil was back when the 'map' content was the Maelstrom of Chaos only (and there wasn't a map device). Peity took over for a bit, then Dominius held the title for a great deal of time. Then Malachai held it for a while too, before the Fall of Oriath, the only time PoE didn't piecemeal acts out, all of Part 2 got dropped in one whole cluster, pushing Kitava into Final Boss role, while none of the other gods getting a chance. I have months into the game and still don't understand the mechanics of progressing the Maven/Eldritch bosses and super high level crafting. Nothing in the game gives much of a clue for some reason (text says to keep running T14 maps is all). I could go to a 3rd party site and "study" it, but don't feel I should have to do that for a game.

" Everyone can beat maven and eldritch bosses, you just have to accept you will die, and fail sometimes. PoE survives because you can explore its depth of builds to find different ways to make things work better, if you want ez mode go play diablo.
It's as complex as you want it to be.
I spend every league running the acts multiple times with alts and barely touching maps. I find that part extremely boring. I like to build my characters. I rarely try and craft anything because the whole process is just gambling and I have little patience for clicking until the right outcome pops up. I dont pursue endgame bosses because that requires grinding a ton of maps which I find extremely boring. All that being said, I still look forward to every league reset, and I enjoy playing PoE for what I can get from it. |
