Anecdotally my friend who plays every arpg just tried and quit poe.

Only plays hardcore on his ps5.

He stopped after act 5 because

"Servers too unstable"
"Game isn't balanced"
"A lot of things don't work correctly"

It's fun until it isn't. And fwiw he liked it but d4 soured him on endgame stuff in arpgs. He listened to all the lore. In all honesty he saw all the ways ggg target kills players and says nope in doing other things with my time.

I only told him that:
the servers aren't good enough for hardcore,
acts 5-10 were one large patch and a step down in quality,
that the game is very grindy,
and to take your time and enjoy it.

He really enjoyed act 2 and 4. They felt like diablo 2.

Oh yea... Act 2 is one of my favorites <3

That said... the game can be quite unwieldy at times, but most of the time, the fun I'm getting overshadows my complaints~

"because I find this game complex and confusing it "wont last" (what does that mean lol)

FYI POE mostly has only grown and on average gotten bigger and bigger for 10 years... hope this helps.

Well, pity it wasn't for him.

As for the servers... dunno.
Haven't had server issues for a long time, but that may depend on where you live and which servers are closest.

Balance? Well, THAT has been an issue for a long time. But what game truly is balanced?

Things not working correctly? Very helpful. Like what exactly?

I think he might be specifically referring to the in game tootips and character stat page. He didn't use any 3rd party tools. He made a lot of characters that mostly died to lag.

Like he would slot in gems or items and not see an expected increase in damage, most likely due to added damage effectiveness or some mods being local instead of global.

Honestly I was just letting him figure it out himself. It wasn't anything specific but just a feeling that some skills had wonky interactions with each other and enemies. Like some skills that are very clearly meant to hit an area have a very tiny area of effect.

It was interesting to see him try and figure out what damage type stuff was. Like doryani did cold damage because it was blue, kitava fire because it was red.

just LOL- there is plenty of 'chill games' some people enjoy games that you have to think.

If Dwarf Fortress is still alive, PoE will be fine, It is however turning into what you want ironically, which makes it worse.
