POE 2 speed slowed down. Yay or Nay ?

So before you shut me down completely just hear me out.

I might be a bit subjective on the matter considering i'm an artist but give me a chance to explain myself.

I would honestly prefer the POE 2 speed would be around the same speed they showcased it in the 19 min footage or the speed of D4 endgame but NOT the speed of POE 1 meta builds e.g flicker strike.

The art, the creatures, the mechanics become absolete and irrelevant if you just zoom through everything one shotting everything, not getting one shot. Sure, these are really good player standards but they diminish the game visually a lot.

I'm not sure if GGG talked about toning the speed down or not yet but if i would choose between what i saw in the 19 min POE 2 showcase and POE 1 i would 100x times choose the 19 min footage direction of speed and for me that would be the perfect game. I want to see stuff instead of exploding my whole screen.

Any one of you know anything regarding this ?

Thank you.

I'm with you.

In playing a certain "other popular ARPG that just released", the main thing that really struck me was the lack of screen-wide clear and how much better that made each unique battle feel.

But even bigger than that?

Life recovery. Or the extreme lack thereof I should say. I like it a ton. In PoE you can go from 1hp to full without potions in a second or two without flasks (depending on the build). As a result, 99% of the time you're at full life, and .1% of the time, you're dead, and .9% of the time, you're in between. I love the tense struggle of survival provided by fighting without a full health globe, but not worrying about being insta-murdered.

So yeah, they have a lot of work to do to find the best of both worlds.

While PoE 2 looks slower, it's also controlled gameplay so maybe they don't want to showcase the pure endgame of chaos in PoE just yet. I wonder if they would really "slow' the game down, wonder how pissed the community would be if that is the case.

I personally have always played at a slower pace so I'm okay with either.
No its fine you play however you want.
Second-class poe gamer
PoE has a relatively standard speed while progressing through the acts on a character without leveling gear. The endgame lets you invest and take your character into speed-heaven, which I think is OK.

Should PoE 2 do a better job at facilitating for slower builds? Yes. Should it force a slower playstyle for everyone? Not necessarily.

The teasers we've seen so far, are all from the early game, and hence it shows a rather slow gameplay, which is totally fine. What I like about those teasers, is that - at least one of them - hints towards a more combo-centric playstyle, which I also think they should encourage.

The balance here is important; while they shouldn't force you to play any slower, they should adjust certain damage numbers, spike damage and defenses so you don't feel like you HAVE to go super fast to survive.

But taking advantage of clear speed has always been a priority for players in most ARPGs. D2 had a HUGE speed running community - and still has. And the media today certainly does a "good" job at making players feel like they have to go fast, because every content creator out there values speed, as they should do in an RNG based game.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

^This.

Both ways should be a viable option to some extend.

speed is relative to power and depending on how they implement recovery.
diablo4 atm is the worst gameplay you can have due to its not fluid.
Blizzard had 3 games to check that people played in the arpg and then implement something horrible.

GGG tried the HP spong thingy with new mods.
pretty much everyone hated it.
so they had to nerf the mods so much its not a obstacle for fluid gameplay.

as long poe2 retain a fluid gameplay, its gonna be great at whatever pace it is.
Nay. I tried the slowed down gameplay in Diablo 4. I didn't like it.

Maybe POE 2 can be slowed down a little bit for visual clarity but I hope it is not slowed down too much.

In the slow world of Diablo 4, POE's ward loop build could not exist and ward loop is FUN.
8 mod maps are the new alch and go.
Nah the fast pace is better, it allows for more dynamic gameplay with more skill expression.
They can have both so long as 'slow' league mechanics like Hesit and Expedition stay competitive in rewards. If you don't want to blast you can wait on doors and read pylons etc.
