What Happened with Items

Philosophy One: Reward mechanisms should scale properly with Item Quantity and Rarity bonuses
that is exactly the problem with this league

Philosophy Two: Players should fight fewer Rare Monsters at once, but they should be more challenging and rewarding
but they are not rewarding... except 1 uber rare "loot goblin" rare

Philosophy Three: There shouldn't be a large gap between the difficulty and rewards of league content and base game content
there is a huge gap now in difficulty, with rare mods on top of a league content, everything is super unbalanced power wise

please bring back important harvest crafts, allow us to lower at least a bit the mod gambling
PoE1 3.23 - the best league of all time (an absolute banger)
----
PoE2 0.2 - the most borring ARPG in the world... RIP
Thanks GGG for clarifications. We are all humans and can make mistakes. Personally speaking I am quite satisfied with the current state of the game. I am only missing some harvest crafting but I can surely live 1 league without it. Hope something interesting regarding it is coming later.

So you want the game to be rewarding even if you don't invest into your maps and so on.

for the 2nd one I have played PoE since the beginning and yes this league was not as rewarding as previous ones but it was still managable if you know what your doing so I guess maybe adapt improvise overcome instead of whining.

I agree with you that some stacked modifiers are very hard to do and it gets frustrating but they already announced they will fix this and have been to stubborn about it.
Ok. Goodbye POE. Deinstallation.

I'm the Game Director for Path of Exile 1, and it is absolutely unacceptable that I can miss a change that has the consequences that the league monster one did. Changes like that need to be very, very carefully tested, have their consequences fully understood, and then be communicated clearly. I have let you down and I will not allow it to happen again.

Chris... I love you, man, and I know your heart's in the right place with this, but you really, really need to stop writing this combination of words in posts.

The problem is that you've said variations on these same words on several different occasions, now, during several different league roll-outs, and it hasn't prevented additional fuck-ups from happening. You're human. You're fallible. You're going to fuck up again, at some point, eventually. Promising to not be fallible, effectively promising to not be human anymore, just isn't something you're ever going to be able to deliver on.

I appreciate that you're taking responsibility for the mistakes. I think you're a stand-up guy, and I trust that you're guiding the team towards a future game state which I'm going to enjoy, and I'm happy to keep supporting GGG and PoE in the meantime. But your promises need to be realistic ones. It will help if they're more specific ones, too.

Q: What is the overall direction or vision for the future state of the game? I have faith that it will be a good one, but I'm starting from a position of trust; some of your player base clearly don't have that same trust. I understand that some of what you're working on is intended to be the meat of future surprise reveals, some of it's just not ready to talk about yet, and some of the details won't even make sense with the context of those two groups of things, but... Maybe talking in general terms about what the future of the game looks like will help calm some of the anxiety you're seeing.

Are you hoping that PoE 2 will be a slightly slower-paced game, with fewer, longer, tougher fights? Are you hoping that PoE 2 will be a much more dangerous game, where players need to be paying attention at all times, and not gliding past screens of enemies that just die in their wake? Are you going to spend the next year gradually making changes that will take PoE 1 incrementally towards those goals, one league at a time?

Because that's kinda how it feels. Don't get me wrong, I love it - the "It's all nerfs!" patch note from a few leagues back was one of my favourites ever, for its boldness, its honesty, and its simplicity, but it feels like you've spent every major patch since trying to make similar changes to the game, but without admitting that you're making similar changes to the game.

And I think that's the thing that's rubbing some people raw, right now. It's not just that you're evolving the game (although, for some of them, that is definitely part of it); no, the main problem is that they don't have any sense of what PoE is evolving into, and GGG's messaging on the subject is just a bit of a mixed, confusing mess, right now.

Obviously, a lot of us still have a trust, and still feel good about supporting you -- just glance to the right at the frankly embarrassing number of my supporter pack badges, or the simple fact that the first wave of ExileCon 2 tickets sold out in a matter of hours, even with all this drama happening. But this is the thing you need to do better. Don't promise to never make another mistake again; instead, promise to level with us about what the goal is. Promise to be more transparent about how you plan to get there, and why.

I don't want or need you to be perfect. I don't want or need you to be less than human, or to never make another mistake again. Just be a little more open, and a little more honest, about where this ride is taking us. If you need to nerf something, so that you can build something better, then do it. Just level with us about the fact that you're doing it, and let us in on reason why the nerf is needed.

All that said... I'm still loving PoE, I'm still supporting GGG, and I'm not planning to go anywhere. Stay strong!

Some nice thoughts here. Thank you.
I also am very pleased with the harvest changes. I hated harvest because how annoying it was to deal with it.

Maybe now we can again spawn all monsters at the same time?
Majority of feedback is actively telling you that the average player is not getting enough currency to play the game.

ggg please listen to your player base on this one before people really do start to perceive the game the love in a different light.

I appreciate the post but there still seems to be a disconnect, hopefully the next patch addresses some of our concerns.

cheers

NOT MY WORDS

Will preface this by saying I am a software developer, and have a sordid teenage history of creating hacking/botting tools for WoW. That was a decade ago now, but the fundamentals havent changed. I just want to promise - I have never cheated in PoE. The only tool I have made for PoE was a little website which basically showed me good flips. I used it for a leaguestart and then realised that I fucking hated flipping.

So - This tool exists, for anyone who is unsure. It has done for years, and most longer term players are probably already vaguely aware of it from the warn wave back in Abyss, and then the continual and obvious abuse of red beasts. In the game client, a network packet is pre-fired from the server to allow for map assets to begin pre-loading when the map portal is opened, not just when entered. For anyone wanting to confirm this, you can either use wireshark and watch the packet, or simply carefully watch disk/memory usage as you open portals. The tool then watches for these changes in your memory.

So, for anyone imagining 6 players zoning into a map to check, nope, way worse. The tool allows 6 players to each sit in their own HO, spam opening maps. When any of them "hit" they can simply call out, all enter that specific map, find the mob, pick up their 30 divines, and repeat. So its 6x faster than I think most people are imagining.

I wont post where the tool is hosted, or its name, but it took me 10mins to find the correct github fork with source code. The video in question is, as far as Im concerned, almost certainly using the tool, one of its plugins is for automated flasks, and that flask uptime without an orb looks.... hrm.

Posting this makes me a bit sad, I dont really like talking about hacking games much any more, the reasons to do so are usually bad - and I dont mean greed etc. Most people who feel the need to cheat are lacking something internally, I definitely was, and I dont like thinking about those times much. Honestly the teenager earning more than their national minimum wage by selling orbs doesnt upset me, its the ones who feel the compulsional need to be the best via any means I'm more sad about. Some people will be doing this ALL DAY, with the main aim being actually using the currency ingame.

I doubt its actually very fun.

Edit : To those people who read this and messaged me asking for links... Lmao. Seriously? I said in the post I hate this. I will not be sending links, stop asking you degenerates. And no, not even for "research" purposes.

IF IT'S TRUE IS GOD DAMN HILLARIOUS...
3.13 Was the best league ever!
3.18 Rest in peace my beloved recombinators, I'm gonna miss you...
Thank you, Chris. I appreciate you and the team immensely.
1/ You want more challenging rare monsters, but you somehow forgot to compare to the difficulty of unique monsters?! It makes no sense have rare monsters stronger than unique ones. Not only reward, but also monsters difficulty should scale properly. When are rare monsters more dangerous than unique through most of the game, isn’t there something wrong with your monsters (power)scaling? It is not ok, that even streamers are complaining about rare monsters’ difficulty or rewards/difficulty ratio (not talking about one shot out of nowhere issue, or too fast mobs). It should be somehow balanced– superfast, but weaker attack; supertanky, but slow… (just listen to the people which combinations are frustrating/which should change). We are talking about rare monsters – they supposed to be hard to kill, but it should be easier than unique!

2/But you are creating that gap with AN in time restricted league content – increasing their difficulty with no extra time to complete the challenge. It is simple: don’t let AN have more than two AN mods in another league content or balance it and test properly.

3/We still miss any explanation what happened with Harvest? It is so big problem let people craft what they want/need? It is not accident that Harvest league was one of the most popular leagues ever. We like creating some gear just by ourselves. And you keep nerfing harvest almost every league… together with currency changes, you cut our crafting options to the ground and made crafting available to even less people than previous leagues. So in the result we face much stronger rare mobs than before with less crafting options to prepare our char properly to face them. That is bad combination especially for causal players.
If you want change whole crafting system, you should explain people what is your vision of crafting. Or show how craft efficiently with current game setup.

4/Exalt/divine change seems to me rather like beta test for Poe2 than change, which was needed for better game experience. You should change at least exalt cards to divine ones. It would look so much better if such big change occur step by step every new league – not change everything at once and wonder that community outrage that economy (and crafting) is really really bad.
It is nice that there are some people, who are able get mirrors, but at the same time even streamers are complaining about much less loot, so what proportion of player base can do that mirror thing? You should optimise game for average players, not for few top players! There will be always small proportion of people capable to rush game content, but you should care about median players – how their game experience looks like right know?

It would be nice hear “Keep up the great work GGG!” again…
