Game of thrones thread go! [ S8 ]
I really liked the track playing in the Arya scene. Rewatched 7 times for it.
The Bother progress: 11%
You don't even imagine how much harm you've caused. I'm not sure I'll live long enough to finish "The Bother". You're one of my murderers. You will never get my forgiveness unless you make up for what you've done. | |
Was also disappointed.
So many years of build up, so many promises and woven threads and... and... meh! This episode is by no means bad-bad, but it's too average for the hype. The previous ones, specially s8e2, had no action yet were great. And we can see! IMO s8e3 would have felt better structured if they condensed it slightly, removing the unnecessarily drawn-out scenes that add nothing significant to tension/drama (ex: dragon peekaboo, most slowmos). They seem to exist more for HBO to market s8s3 as the longest TV battle than to progress the story. I literally yawned while tapping my fingers on the sofa, waiting for the 90s horror game sequence to end. Yes, I am one of the few that disliked how long Arya's hide and seek scenes were. And I too agree with most of what was already said here. The living has many veteran war tacticians on their side. Therefore the way they underutilized their assets is incomprehensible: charging into the dark thus inutilizing their trebuchets, dragons going MIA, improper defense lines, Ghost's CGI budget, calling back archers when enemy is still out of reach so melee fighters casually waste time waiting, wtf Ironborns don't have close combat weapons, etc etc. Oh and Bran being literally worthless (his words to Theon was heartwarming though). Oh oh and apparently wights are conveniently immune to shattering because reasons so that they can rise again. No matter how many awesome moments there are, and there were plenty (ex: flaming sickle-sword of no utility, Lyanna Mormont, Arya, flames going out Viserion's severed throat, Theon's redemption), the overall episode was confusing, nonsensical and worse of all... boring. *sigh* Well, will have fun deconstructing this episode with my boyfriend and make him realize its flaws. Poor man is more hopeful than I am. Last edited by Zphyr on Apr 29, 2019, 7:26:12 PM

Like I'm no field commander sure but holy fucking shit this is some of the most dumbest tactics I've ever seen in a war god dam.

"You know nothing I_NO. It was a great episode except it was too dark. And now that the NK (not part of the books) is out of the way, we can revisit all of those characters we love and hate for three more episodes. "Gratitude is wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk." Rumi

" I know nothing?
Spoiler
WHO CHARGES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DARKNESS VS 5000000 undead? Half of there forces were sacrificed for NO reason whatsoever. Why were there gaps in the in the spiked barricades? Mindless undead killing themselves while one just oh HEY THERE'S A GAP LETS GO BOYS. A LOT of stupid stuff in the episode I mean cmon you got to be naive to not understand that.

" - Stay inside the castle not outside if attacked! - Artillery stays inside the castle! Or at least behind that fire ring. Not scattered in between the main army body. - Light cavalry charges into darkness - stupid! (light cavalry never charged anyways. It's used for recon, ambush, encirclement, quick pushes from the sides or to finish noff an already destabilized area) Furthermore they planned to charge into the darkness without flaming swords (those were an unexpected gift from Melisandre ex machina) so the original plan of charging into the darkness without any light was even dumber! - No or extremely few ground defenses/obstacles except for that little fire ring. There was enough time to build those. About that Ring of fire: placing this obstacle between the main body of the army and the stronghold meant that a retreat would have to go through it, causing a choke point. - Dragons used in the most stupid way instead of supporting the army staying relatively close to Bran they fly around in the mist or fog or clouds or whatever that is. That was the plan anyways, to lure the NK to bran, so stay close or hide in the vicinity or support your people while waiting for an opportunity. - The Night King has a dragon but no aerial defenses were built! - Hiding in a crypt with...uuuhh....potential undeads in the tombs - stupid (at least clear the tombs first)! - Flanks not protected! why so sure enemy comes from front? - How come the walls were not armed with archers at all times? How come they have nothing to pour down from the walls onto the undead? I could go on.... The winterfell forces have/had several seasoned war veterans in their ranks and what they do is brain amputated nonsense... another article about it: https://www.wired.com/story/game-of-thrones-winterfell-battle-tactical-analysis/ If drama just ensues due to incredibly stupid and unrealistic behavior I couldn't care less about whatever happens in the movie. " One of the memorable lines from the books (and show for those who haven't read the books) is Ygritte's much used "You know nothing Jon Snow." Your username, I_NO, is a made to order play on that and I jumped on the opportunity to do so. It is a TV show after all and whatever the audience thinks, the script writers have already done their work. Now we wait. Now you know something, I_NO! "Gratitude is wine for the soul. Go on. Regarding the writers and director of this episode, it was written by Dan & Dave and directed by Miguel Sapochnik. The same people responsible for the "Battle of the Bastards" episode.
Lets be honest, if you really cared about historically accurate battles you wouldn't be watching Game of Thrones. Everything was done for dramatic effect, which it did well, it was an intense episode. To each their own, I though it was a great episode. I highly doubt it plays out like that in the books once they're written but it was still enjoyable IMHO. A lot of it did feel like fan service though but I suppose that's to be expected since it was written by fans and not GRRM. 3 more episodes, can't wait to see how the rest plays out. :) Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.

Cant even be mad at D&D. For example season 5 was allegedly very misogynistic so they had to make up for it in season 6. Except apparently they screwed up again because they gave women too much power this time and it was unrealistic. Not even kidding, pages and pages of feminists dissecting every scene to show how bad it is for women. And I am sure this is only part of the crap they have to deal with. I imagine putting the right minority to play the right character is a headache on its own but hey, real world problems, right?
In these circumstances writing and directing a story both the popcorn watchers and the totally serious book readers can enjoy is simply impossible. Last edited by Johny_Snow on Apr 30, 2019, 2:35:38 AM

" Its the single best piece of music written for the show hands down. You can tell it pulled some composition ideas from some of the Westworld themes. S L O W E R
