Balance Changes in Path of Exile: Betrayal

At first one less totem for Hierophant looks like a nerf.
But i will wait and look for the new passive tree (Thursday?) and see how much impacts the new Brands have and how the interaction with totems works.

From the first look a typical build would play like this.

Drop 1-2 totems, pre cast 1-x brands, while walking recall ALL brands ,with the new recall-skill, simultaneously (which get larger attachment range) at your location for AOE damge in vicinity and 1-2 totem(s) for support.

A more interactive (and faster, if heavly invested in brands) "totem" playstyle than before by the looks?!
Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body."

Only usable with Ethanol Flasks

Expected stat stick abuser shitstorm :).

Melee is NOT dead!
Double Strike was ment to be a 1 weapon skill (2h or 1h+shield).
Dual Strike was mean to be the alternative for dual wield.

Sorry but Double Strike clear speed is not okay. You need both Melee Splash and Ancestral Call to have ok clear speed.
But you know how much you have to invest into to be kinda ok with the DPS ??

Let me clearly show you, my one hand + shield build: (lot's of overpriced items)

If i sell the items, they will worth arround 200 exalted.

Then you didn't understand the difference between SINGEL TARGET and AoE skills.

You take 1 high DPS singel target skill into your 6-link.
And 1 low DPS AoE in a 4-slot.

Not even all exe avilable will help you if you don't understand this.

For real, who cares if you do 600 billion DPS against trash mobs?? They are onehit with 30k allready. NO NEED for more! So your super duper gear and a 4-link AoE will be over-geared allready.

Btw I played a 78% block cycloner in Delve. Clearspeed was fine, singel target was okish. Just no millions of DPS.

Gems aren't right anymore except gloves (6-links).
Body was 6-link Herald of Argony.
Claw Double Strike setup (5-links).
Most expensive: glove-crafting base and weapon with 1,5 exe each :)

COMBINED DPS Argony + Cyclone + Poison + Totem ~1,3 mil dps.
Not as great as stat-stic abuse. But good enough for any content!

I realized I was a bit outdated on the matter. When I thought about stat sticks, I was thinking about cool uniques like soul taker that allows you to attack without worrying about mana, or some minor damage conversion. I wasn't taking into account the monster rare stat sticks that are available now with like 5 mods of % of phys damage as extra X.
It would have been pretty straightforward to nerf them instead and keep sticks as they always were

There is no sense playing dual wielding anymore for melee build.
We are forced to use weapon and shield...

Balance Changes in Path of Exile: Betrayal

  • You will no longer be able to use skills that require a specific weapon equipped if you are dual-wielding and one of your equipped weapons is unsuitable for that skill.
  • Skills that could be used with two weapons, but were main-hand-only when used, now use both weapons when dual wielding.

We found that with this change it was important to make skillbinds specific to your weapon set. You can now have an entirely different set of skills bound to your main set of weapons and your second set of weapons.

I'm reading this on my phone. LUL

So this means that if i use a sword in main hand, i'm forced to use a sword in 2nd hand to be able to use Sunder for example?

Their logic is absurd.
Thats why required weapons for certain gems exists already.
But imposing that your off-hand needs to be equal to gain bonus stats is ridiculous.

Cap on slowing effects:
The total amount that you can slow the expiration of an effect on a character through a time-slowing mechanism (such as Temporal Chains) is now capped at 75% from all sources.

Time-slowing effects are very powerful defensive tools. Limiting time-slowing to a cap allows us more flexibility in making content, as well allowing us to provide more options for giving players time-slowing effects.

Delve announcement: "Hey, we created a INFINITE mine for people explore and push theirselves to the max. depth they can reach."
Delve ended: "Hey, we will nerf mechanics, you're not supposed to reach so deep in Delve mines".

We are sure you'll find interesting builds and choices of many kinds in Betrayal. There are already some balance changes planned and underway for 3.6.0. We expect to keep a good eye on gameplay during Betrayal to see how our plans need adjustment, and to develop a picture of the balance roadmap for next year.

just noticed that.

the exact thing to right when you know youve messed up BADLY. and i mean BADLY.

what type of ele-converted BV augmented with 3+ roll statsticks we are going to play this patch?

not to mention that:

Betrayal does include some changes for various things associated with self-casting. We have designed the new cold skills to be aimed at self-casters, for example.

roughly translated to 'we have wasted several hours creating bad skills noone asked for to be used in a way even total noobs know is garbage' :) first time in history thrash pile is being cleared by adding more thrash!
My 5 Cent,

stat stick changes are really extremly bad, but the thing you want to implement Archetypes into the game is a bitter disappointment. But i hope that things are never as bad as they seem. Lets try it out, and hopefully you will correct your changes if they are bad as they seem.
Hi, I wanted to play ARC totem hierophant in 3.5 for the first time, but i don't really understand changes that have been made. Instead of placing 3+1 totems I will be able to place 3x2 totems or what?
