[3.16][HC][ON BREAK] Caustic Arrow Raider, DoT Focused | Tanky | 6k+ Health | All Content | In-depth
"Every boss has chaos and elemental resist, similarly to how players can build resists. Normal boss has +25% chaos resist, +40% elemental resist and 33% less effectiveness of applied hex curses, big endgame bosses like Sirus etc. have +30% chaos res, +50% ele resist and 66% less effectiveness of hexes on them. Anyway, just before Merveil (when you enter the cave and unlock the portal) you should go back to town and pick the quest reward from Nessa - she will offer toxic rain. By this time you should have 2 items with 3-link green sockets on your gear (no levelling uniques scenario) and use caustic arrow + void manipulation + pierce and toxic rain + mirage archer + void manipulation (yes, buy second copy of it). You should also keep your mana flask up to date (toxic rain uses a lot of mana) and you should use a 1.5 attack speed bow (short bow / grove bow / thicket bow base). You should also probably equip a saphire ring to reduce cold damage you take in that cave (Merveil and all her mobs deal cold damage). This is a levelling strategy that always works and in act2 you will get vicious projectiles gem (get 2 of them) and from act3 on you can start finding 4-link items so grab them asap and link vicious proj to both skills. Then in act3 library you can get access to some other, better supports like concentrated effect. Another option is if you have a green-green-red socket to pick ballista support instead of mirage archer and link ballista to toxic rain. It's a bit slower, but safer and less mana hungry experience. It's kinda annoying on Merveil specifically because she keeps teleporting around and ballistas keep shooting the adds instead of the boss, but it's still doable just slower.
" I always use Balista totem support + Toxic Rain + Void Manipulation alongside with Caustic Arrow when it comes to bossing and it turns out to be pretty handy, so I think you should try out that setup, it's not a one-shot boss setup, but at least it is not too weak
Playing this build for the first time. I'm now level 82 and having lots of fun. It's been years since I played a pure evasion bow build. It brings back fond memories. Still trying to get used to using Dash. :-)
Thanks for the build! Oh BTW, best build write-up I've ever seen! Great job! Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

Before that i read this guide, that was with a great job, i played always hunter with gem caustic.
In Ultimatum i didn't reach ascendance, because i made myself build. I didn't follow a guide, and i'll don't want make the same error. I'm reading this guide little by little because i found it's very well wrote. There was some job ! But i'm french, and i don't understand all, like CA, i presume it's mean Class Armor, but i don't sure, because CA is mentionned on gem, what's CA it's on a gem ? There are too, some other acronym that i don't understand, by the way i 'll follow this guide. Thank you for this guide, i begun the game there was 2 months ago, and i found there is a amazing good job, thank so much again to the creator !!
Should I reroll the attack speed of and go with chaos and damage over time multi? This is in ssf

DO you think Ward would be a good idea on this build. I got one-shotted quite a lot by bosses and scary +t14 map. I don't know if there's any more layer of defense or guard skills I could use.

" Get more life on quiver, it's like a 1-stat item atm, just good hunter mod and nothing much. Get a corrupted blood immunity jewel, and possibly even watcher's eye with immune to bleed w/ malevolence. Dots are fairly dangerous this league. Then instead of triple staunching flask you can run dousing and curing (counters other, less frequent, but still annoying dots). Another thing you can use instead of 1 life flask is forbidden taste with "cast when taken a savage hit" (can craft from bench now), however I would recommend in that case to either fully cap chaos resist or slot enduring cry somewhere to counter the degen if it procs. Or possibly small cluster jewel with surging vitality (or w/e the name of "regen life every 5 sec" passive). Buy a lvl 21 caustic arrow, it's pretty cheap now. Lastly, if you can craft aspect of the crab, you should replace flesh and stone with it as physical damage reduction is a problem (esp. on maps with vulnerability curse). Ward idk, I was trying a ward flask: But so far it doesn't feel super amazing. You can always try it yourself, it's fairly cheap. I would not sacrifice gear slots for ward items probably, I haven't seen it used outside of poison builds (there are unique gloves that convert ward from a defensive to offensive stat granting added chaos damage to attacks which is very strong for poison builds).
Great build. First time I've given a DOT build a try and glad I chose yours.
I've taken the build to a combined ~10m DPS (Caustic + TR combined) according to POB. Made a few tweaks along the way to optimise based on my set-up at the time, including 1 cluster jewel at first, and now a double jewel set-up. Some key adjustments I made for the build (based on my preferences at level 97 and playing softcore) included: - Picking up t1/t2 mana regen on both rings, crafting flat mana regen on one ring, plus grabbing mana regen nodes on my clusters (Eldritch inspiration x4 + small passives where possible). This cleared up all mana issues which were introduced this league and meant I never had to think about mana running out (~120 mana regen/s). This is probably a bit overkill. I would guess 70-80 is probably sufficient. - Taking Aspect of the Spider for more DPS + hindering of enemies (as I only needed a small mana pool given my mana regen, which made this possible while still keeping Dread Banner and Malevolence). - Adding Culling Strike (on top of CDOT multi) to my gloves via Awakener's Orb. - For QoL, picking up 'Quickstep' and its two surrounding AS/MS nodes. For mapping, running Null and Void gloves for Rampage. I was/am planning on using an alternate bow for mapping as well (+2 arrows + Aisling veiled CDOT multi + the usual +3 gems and normal DOT), but Aisling has something against me so I'm about 30 ex + a dozen Aisling t4 veiled crafts deep and still haven't managed to hit the right veil yet.
