I agree with the keystone changes, but GGG seems to base their planning around some weird assumptions. Let's emphasise the following points:
- Getting a 25k ES build is roughly as hard as getting a 14.5k life build.
Both have been demonstrated and both can only be afforded by a vanishingly small portion of the player base.
So if you quote 25k ES, you should also quote 14.5k life. More commonly is 12k ES vs 6k life for well geared, experienced players.
- 2k ES corresponds to 1k life.
Life builds tend to have around 50% baseline phys mitigation, higher block and evasion, and in practice have a significantly easier time getting additional defense mechanisms (conversion, more endurance charges, often AA and Fortify, ...). And let's not forget flasks.
For example, I have a 6.7k life Berserker and a 13.8k ES Occultist (dozens of ex invested, and I'm playing since open beta, so they're well built): both are about equal in tankiness and roughly similar in dps/clearspeed (different strengths/focus).
And my 10.5k life RF char is extraordinarily tanky ( much more than the 13.8k ES Occultist) without having leech, while my lvl 89 6k ES support summoner is about as squishy as a lvl 60 3k life test build I've tried recently.
I think most experienced people will agree that the bolded point above holds.
Now with these changes, ES for most players will be significantly crappier without making up for it in any other way. Guess I'll play more life then, and hope build variety goes up again after it has been slashed right now.
Life is currently fine, and 95% of the ES builds as well, with the notable exception of those streamer clearspeed cookie-cutter-meta chars (that do tend to get copied a lot).
The main problem seems to be ES leech. Nerf Ghost Reaver and, if you want, CI. (btw: IMO Vaal Pact is currently OP for life based builds because I recover 700-1000% life per second, but I do enjoy playing them, so nothing to see here, please move on)
But the nerfs to ES affixes and Discipline are over the top, and IMO even unnecessary.
Although given GGG's infamous stubbornness, I did just buy 9 "cheap" 750+ ES chests on poe.trade :>
I like your point of view on the 'ES - issue'. Looks like we are playing the same game.
I know it might be a bit nasty to point out: which game is GGG playing?

Seems good.
My worries.
Low Life builds. E.G. AuraBot builds, with no huge ES Chest/Shield. (Would be crappy if you HAD to travel to life nodes and jewel it to ES as only acceptable way to play without mirror worthy gears).
Instant leech OR 3rd party LogOut macro.
Also the 'gripe' with life/non-stupid ES and RNG 1shot mechanics.
Basicly I realllllllllyyyy hope the game is balanced more around 'heart pumping, longer battles' than, 1shot or be 1shot, total RNG luck if you get 1shot or kickarse.
The total focus on 'Godly Gear > Skill'.
Ok, fine if that's how it is. But pretty please, better trade. 3rd party, no-life 24/7 trade shouldn't be 'the' skill to winz.

Reductions to levels of Energy Shield
All local Energy Shield modifiers on items, as well as the base Energy Shield of items, have been reduced at higher levels. Very low-level items will see a slight increase or no change, scaling up to a 33% reduction at the highest tier of modifiers.
It says that your mid-tier ES gears will recive minimum to no nerf in numbers. 33% are related ONLY for top tier rols. 33% was removed from t1 rolls, most of you do not have on all of your gear.
Its too eraly for panic mode.

To anyone saying 25k-ish ES is impossible, see what could be accomplished with max ES investment:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4u7K-q3xwo
Also, 12k life is not realistic, since it requires you to use legacy kaoms (200+ ex), or regular kaom's for around 10k-ish. That means sacrificing a 6l chest slot! While CI with a max rolled 1k es chest still had that 6L.
I for one welcome these changes.
No one saying that it is impossible. Just pointing out that that only represents at most 2% if not less of the ES player base and ES builds out there. The majority aka average ES builds/ players Reach at most 10k-12k ES. Also not all build are CI and not all builds are Full offensive. So using this as the bases for a nerf is bad because it doesn't represent the average player who will end up with 5k-8k ES tops with these changes unable to do mid to high tier maps or endgame content. Killing builds is not the way to balance a game that prides it self in promoting build diversity. The only thing i agree with is that life builds need a buff, but nerfing ES to the ground isn't making life builds any better.

Still doesnt change a thing about armor/eva being a bad joke in late game. Needed to rework the whole mechanic of those imo.
Nonetheless, better than nothing I gues, even though it pretty much just a base es nerf.
Did that realy take that long to get by?

Since ES leching is removed....
why not giving a "faster Start of Energy Schield Recharge 50% or such"....
you get enough "increased Energy Shield Recharge Rate" in the passive tree
ES leeching is not going to be removed. Ghoust Reaver will be the same except ES recharge rate penalty.

I was going to write a post to say how bad this was but why bother? GGG had to know the reaction to this would be what it is, and did it anyways, so they obviously won't care for another longwinded post.
Oh well, hopefully the beta does what it is intended and corrects this, but I'm not holding my breath.
