Energy Shield and Life
Seems developers dodge the fact - players need only a way to overcome huge damage spikes / one shots. Being it life based or ES based didn't matter at all. It did matter but those subtile problems like regen differences are ignorable. There are 2 solutions - remove damage spikes or implement defence possibilities. ES Nerfing feels good for me ( Life player ) but it doesn't help on bigger scale.
With every balance change you create a new meta. It is always defence biased. Life/ES/Armor/Evasion/Dodge/Resistances/Block... There are tons ways to do it. But there are should be more then 1 way. You have threshold jewels and flasks (Wise Oak) - why not implement threshold armor/weapon? Chest of XXXx = "Ignoring of 50% incoming damage if calculated damage is more then 70% of Life/es. This works only if yours Armor<Evasion" Chest of YYYy = "Regens 100% of HP ES and mana within 3 seconds if hit was more then 80% of yours total life/ES pool. This works only if yours Evasion>ES pool" and so on. Cheers. | |

You had 2 choices: - buff Life builds and make everyone happy - nerf ES builds and make everyone sad (leave life build users sad anyway). You went the Diablo3 way and made everyone sad. Fine. But let me ask you two questions: - Who on earth came up with these 25k ES builds? If you focus on nothing else than ES and have mirror worthy gear only - I can imagine this is possible. Looking at my lvl93 Inquisitor which I´ve spent most of my currency for, I´m sitting close to 10k ES and will most likely not get over that with my resources. - HOW ON EARTH do you expect ES builds to heal during a combat once Vaal Pact is gone? You know that ES does not replenish as long as you take damage, right? You do know that, correct? ES builds also have no flask (instant life recovery anyone?) and there is NO other way than instant life leech to kill a reflect elemental mob. I didn't intend to test the 3.0 beta, but I'm gonna need to understand how much ES I will lose with my current favorite witch char.
I play this char since closed beta, respeced it at nearly each update, was crap a lot of times, until last year when I made something decent. I don't trade (I just buy), I don't farm intensively, I spent 25+ ex on my stuff, and my total cumulated wealth since the start is around 35 I think (including 17ex from an eternal orb I sold). So yeah, I spent nearly everything on this char. I know some players will laugh at these amouts, but that's how I play, casually. So my wealth is proportional. With this, I managed to reach 6.4k ES with 60 to 80k fire DPS with ghost reaver, 6L Shavronne's wrappings, and pain attunement (and 2 blood mana heralds). That's far from an OP build, but that's the way I like to play my char. I know 6.4k is low. I know I can't handle lot of content (not sure I can even handle normal Atziri), but I don't mind. But this ? This update ? Did I understand it correctly, and it means my hard earned char will be worthless ? After all these respecs, purchases, and stuff ? If I can import it in the beta, I will join. Otherwise I won't, because I just can't farm the required wealth to make the equivalent build. Remember it took me years. Hey remember that time that everyone turned into a whiny six year old that had their toys taken away...... and then forgot that there is an entire month (probably more) of beta-testing still to do.

As a life\evasion\endurance based player i welcome these changes and hope for a boost to life , to both compensate ES builds and increase the survivability of pure life ones. In fact i would suggest a small,but noticeable, increase to life nodes.
