Energy Shield and Life
Interesting changes to come and I'm quite excited to see what the result will be. Before everyone gets their panties in a twist it is important to remember that the pantheon system has an almost entirely defensive focus. I believe that these changes were made with that in mind so we will have to wait and see what the final numbers will be. That aside, I agree with almost every single change that, might, come to fruition. IMO it shouldn't even be possible to build a character with only energy shield, because that is simply not how it was designed. I predict a whole lot of hybrid ideas coming to the surface, lots of shaper's touch, geoffri's body armour builds. Stacking strength for es. Templar Guardian will be really strong still, with it being able to scale mana for es.
With these changes a change in thinking when building a build will be needed. Instead of stacking energy shield, there might be a more useful option, for example, stacking mana and using mind over matter as a we to deal with huge damage spikes. Instead of traveling across the tree for vaal pact or ghost reaver, you stack regen and increased recharge rate. The more I think about it the more interesting build ideas come to mind. I must say too that I'm a huge fan of the change to ghost reaver. If it will work as i'm understanding, it will no longer make it so you can't leech life? Huge, huge quality of life for hybrid life and es builds. Vaal pact change was absolutely needed as ES's natural recharge, that you could still get while using Vaal pact, does not compare to life regen which is removed with the taking of Vaal pact. 100% needed change. Another point that needs to be made. The changes will not be retroactive, as i'm understanding. Meaning, that gear that you spent so much money on will still stay the same. Think about it for a moment. Standard league, future builds will be nerfed but your precious ES builds with 100 exalts sunk into it will still be just as good. I mean anyone who has a harsh negative reaction to this, I challenge you to think outside of what path of exile has been in the past. It is an expansion, changes are to be expected. Also don't shit all over something you haven't even tried yet. Everything that is being said now is not based in fact. I will be all ears for complaints once we have a chance to test and it feels awful. If it gets to that point then by all means, let the waterworks flow. Until it reaches that point, in beta mind you, i don't want to hear it. So far the people complaining about these changes, at least in my experience, are people that have only ever play energy shield, CI based builds. Give it a chance, you might find that you enjoy a different build more than your facerolling content trivializer. Side not - big fan of the changes to crafting with the addition of flat life. I wanted to add a little to the mixing pot with the examples of what gear results in what ES. This is with Trickster, so bare in mind that they get enormous bonuses to ES. The following setup gets me 13,050 ES Swapping out these gets me 14,273 ES With a quick change in the passive tree I can drop around 15% dps and get 15k es. I could reach 17k with a decent Hubris, though i'd lose over 50% of my dps. This is near, if not top gear. The build is min-maxed and although I could drop dps for more ES, it's usually a better offense that makes the game more enjoyable for me. So when I hear them say that people get 25k, I laugh at what their DPS must be but oh well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKwyDksEjEQ - 14.5k life without perfect items. Looks like your talking shit GGG. He can also clear t16 and shaper. I guess they're using the average life builds vs the top 0.001% of ES builds? I tried a fair bit of life characters with different classes (from 4.5k to 6.5k life). The game was not really fun. Then I switched to CI, had 8k ES to 11k ES characters. It made the game finally fun because I didn't have no more random 1s deaths.
Now these characters ES will drop close to life values also making them not fun. And I am way less casual than most of your player base. If you don't also drop monster damage values, you are just going to lose lots of your players with this change. | |
This just in... PoE Devs watch YouTube videos of top tier players, and decide to make the game harder for the remainder 99% of gamers.

oh well just did the math on my current builds( 9.1k es and 9.7k es ), so yeah just 15-16k es short on the 25k mark ...
lets say i have 10k es for easier math 10k/(1,15) = 8700 es all ES gear get lowered by 33% with disc = 6500 Es so yeah lost like 35-50% es.... with no instant leech so all reflect mods = one shot // all heavy attacks = one shot and if i survive by a miracle, i would die in the next 1 sec, because i cant leech it back XD and pls dont forget i have ZERO Armor / Ev / dodge ( in most cases no block either ).... so how the damm are you supposed to play as a caster in the top tree? The ES meta has been far too dominant for far too long. Cutting it back harshly and letting it regrow may proof to be a wise decision.

KillerKrug - you can always play caster as life + es hybrid, life + mom , life kaom with 2h
Btw VP won´t help with 1 shot anyway but no ES leech is huge problem for ES builds. I see only ZO CI users possible to play ES build after these changes ... I ´ll hope for monster´s damage rebalance. In my experience 9.5k ES is equal to 5.5k life. I mean damage output for ES based with value of 9.5k ES most of time is equal to damage output of 5.5k life characters.
After nerfs 9.5k ES is gonna be a 5.5k ES and 5.5k life is goona be almost 6k life. Also, in case of GR ES wont have recharge rate and no VP anymore, ES is also more expensive that life. I just see no reasons to pick ES biulds anymore exept scenarios when you are ultra rich and have access to godly rolled ES gear, even so life based builds might have more advandages like vp, flasks and so on. GGG should have changed mechanic of ES but not decrease its numbers to so low. |
