Molten Shell

Hi Mark,

i have read all the yellow answers and did not find an answer to a question i have.

Is the damage dealt by Molten shell reflected by elemental Reflect monsters ?

Thanks for answering.

When i saw that molten shell damage was a result of some amount of attack i thought it was in some way a boomerang damage to the attacker ( Aka "reflected" damage, i know it's not the same mechanic. ) But it's somehow similar. Would not it be wise to make a "fake reflected " damage not reflected in its turn ?

molten shell places a value on your character (not talking about the added armor) which gets reduced when foes hit you. it blows up and deals fire damage to nearby foes when that value is <= 0 (less than or equal to zero). there is no "attacker's damage is reflected to foe". also foes with elemental reflect CAN reflect molten shell's damage to you.
I think you are right, and i think its too bad to be killed by molten shell..

yes molten shell is pretty strong. however, if a player has 3k hp (thats high for someone with a balanced build), then molten shell needs to deal 266,666.6 (repeating 6) damage divided by number of fire resistant mobs to kill yourself from reflect.

basically the backwards direction of calculation of damage taken from reflect. player's hp / .25 /.18 /.25 = damage needed to kill self while you and mob both have maxed fire resistance.

I see..

I have only 600 life, i guess i have to go vaal pact or something, or just watch out for reflect mobs ( yes 600 life in merc )

Yesterday in the immolation race I did pick Molten shell after Brutus.
I though "oh crap it will never detonate" but it did. I guess it's because I could block a few hits.

Which leads me to a few questions.

- in case we block, apparently the elemental damages are counted toward the triggering part of the skill. Is it intended ? In my understanding only physical damages did count.

Edit : it should be the case indeed or my understanding of "In the Immolation League, all player and monster physical damage is converted to fire" is lacking

- if we can block spells do the damages we 'absorbed' count toward the trigger ?

maybe only a part of dmg is onverted ? Good observation though ! I was never able to trigger molten against fire form piety.

And since it's a result of attacks, should it be not reflected ? I mean a damage resulting from attacks = "reflect" no ? And reflect reflected damage should not be possible, am i wrong ?
Molten Shell's damage is not reflected damage, it's just damage dealt by the spell. That damage can be reflected by enemies. Molten shell itself doesn't reflect anything.

The difference is that damage reflection is like shooting your laser gun at a mirror - it bounces back and hits you. Molten Shell is the monsters shooting their laser guns at a bomb strapped to you - the lasers might set the bomb off, but that doesn't mean the bomb is reflecting the laser's damage, it's dealing it's own, triggered by the lasers.
Thanks a lot.

Patch 0.11.1d
- Fixed a bug with damage conversion in Immolation Races.

So, from now on I guess it's really useless to pick Molten shell in immolation races.
