block wouldn't have been touched if it wasn't for PVP and the lack of a ''Block penetration support gem''

You realize ... that ... actually ... there is a block pen support gem right ?

I understand that ... but what are were the ways to survive as a melee pre 1.3 ?

1. stack block and armour
2. stack evasion + acrobatics + ondar
3. use claws with VP and high life leech
4. use immortal call all the time
5. use MoM + AA + 1./2./3./4.

and after 1.3 we have the same options but without option 1.
There are no "new" options to explore

Don't forget Grace/IR but yeah, I'll concede your point on there being a limit to defensive options for melee but you can pretty much say that about any other build style. Caster either goes CI crit VP or EB/MoM/AA, for example.

That said, there's a massive unique influx coming. Lots are bound to be low level, but a new chest could be a complete game-changer.

"
And i don't think that block will be viable in 95% of the cases .. with lower block chance from gear and very low/passive consuming nodes from the passive skill tree this option just becomes inferior to the other means of defense.

I think people are putting too much emphasis on block builds requiring max block to be effective. The decision will now come down to supertank mode, or balancing your decision between running say 50% block and putting the rest into damage.

There's a lot of unconsidered and unknown options as well. Sword and board got a massive buff but what if the new counterattack gems are supplementary rather than primary damage sources? You could theoretically put riposte+leech+multistrike in a link combination and not only would you block, you'd sustain simultaneously.

"
I agree that block is overpowered, and i would've been happy with the new patch and all the changes if something was done to improve the of armour because at the moment armour is just inferior.. the only think that made armour viable was the combination with high block chance.

This, I have 0 arguments against. Armour is in a terrible state at the moment.

"
Don't get me wrong block was abused in many builds .. but completely destroying it for everyone ... i'm just not ok with that.

That's the thing, I don't think it was destroyed, I just think it needs to be utilized differently. Example: stacking evasion with grace, avoiding acrobatics and investing in block is something I think could synergize remarkably well together. Evade most attacks, the ones that get through, you have 50% chance to block. Not bad. Throw in some counterattack + leech mechanic in there and when you do get hit, you immediately have another source of sustain.

Just spitballing the above but I honestly think most of this thread is just too knee-jerk.

EDIT: I have a hybrid build in the works I still need to test more but so far with a 6K effective pool using eva/es gear in combination with Essentia Sanguis / Bloodseeker dual wield as baseline test weaponry, it's running 73 maps just fine. I use the weapons to maintain ES and keep an emergency instant flask to triple-tap if necessary. Grace, no iron reflexes. And, Essentia Sanguis is getting a buff, so it stands to get better before I even tweak it with rares instead of uniques.

this isn't balancing whatsoever, this is just plain lowering effectiveness of many builds out there, while doing nothing to buff those who were previously weak. This is not balancing, this is lowering the amount of possible builds people will play. If you had 5 fruits on the table that you liked, and than 3 were taken away from you, that's not "balance". That's just killing variety.

If you wanted to fight aegis in pvp, get yourself a block gem to counter his high block chance cap, and it's over for him? it's that simple, you actually had one build which was strong, and you would need to make second strong build to work against it. Now that aegis will most probably be dead, there will be no point in making counter block builds, so we just lost 2 builds in pvp, what was the point of that? balance? what forcing people into fewer builds is fucking balance now?

Well arent you the expert , its a huge buff to RT physical builds , physical nodes are alot less scattared also crit reductions now its a huge buff to spellcasters crit or otherwise , cause there is alot more elemental damage , its a huge buff to selfcast casters in general when befor i felt like making a coc build over a spellcaster was more effective , YES ITS BALANCING just becouse u cant see it doesnt mean its not so

i alrdy made 2 skilltree's on the guesstree on poebuilder crit ek lightning to phys , and ele profil flameblast with 440% fire/spell/aoe/elemental dmg on tree , and im loving it cause i really hated how easy my 270% rarity 19% quantity coc discharge build in rampage ended up , it was super easy and super fast

i accualy think they heavnt nerfed enough , assassination is too great of a node compared to others , harbinger bow builds were stupid popular in rampage but they heavnt done anything to them making bow builds the easiest to get high multi/decentish 60% crit on cause u can roll multi on quivers pretty much more than a passive cluster of multi

Why the heavy nerfs to any CoC build, I'm very sad to see that some of the fun GG CoC builds are going out the window... please GGG don't do this to us.

Cast on Critical Strike's cooldown has been increased from 0.01 seconds to 0.05 seconds.

God, I am drowning in all this QQ :D

Anyway, great patchnotes, most of the nerfs came as expected. GJ on trying people to wear other armours except for CoD and LC. I expected to see some spell totem damage buffs, but hey, w/e.
Also, specifics on SRS nerf would be cool, because that's one of the builds I am planning for the new league.

ah ok so its good that they nerf everyone elses build but your OP build you wana still make sure is op?.....fail lol

That makes no sense. I didn't say it's not ok to nerf SRS, and I am not even sure if the build is OP, because I've never played it. I am planning though and deciding from 3 builds I want - these patchnotes and tree changes will be the deciding factor of what I am going to do first.

I can judge because I have donated a fair amount of money and every patch my builds become week. Every patch my items become devalued. Every patch I have to respec myb characters into some other "viable" build. Every patch I see more stupid shit added, while issues go unresolved. These are just some of the reasons why I (and others) feel they are able to judge.

Grats to yupou if you just eagerly slurp dfoiwn everything GGG are force-feeding you.

OMG, "I gave hundred bucks to GGG, now you must respect my athoritae!!!"

PS. Have any of you even done the math of crit builds to assuredly say that they are not viable now? Ofc not. You just see some numbers lowered and you say "OMG UNPLAYABLE WON'T PLAY YOUR STUPID GAME ANY MORE MOMMYYYYYY"

I think I might just go melee, crit, block, armour build since it's the general consensus those things are unplayable :D Gotta be some fun times.
@Serleth

Of course we need to see the new uniques that's true ...
I think that even 50% block chance would be very hard to achieve for most builds.

Now i have a problem with evasion + mediocre block chance ... you can't really use RT because reflect becomes dangerous ... on the other hand that might bring another option in poe .. non-crit non-RT builds ... which would be interesting to see ...

Anyway ... you might be right ... it might be good for the melee builds ... but from what i'm seeing right now ... i'm skeptical ... ranged builds just seem the better option ( even more than before ). That won't stop me from playing melee 90% of the time .. but the majority of players won't even give melee a try. Many never played melee before and now that reasons to do so are even less. From that point of view for me melee seems like it's in a dark place.

Lol this is so on point.

I did a rough estimate on the changes to my dual strike nuker setup. I go from 170kish single target (no charges) to 136k, ish. Basically, an 18% reduction in damage, if my math is accurate.

My thoughts?

That's still 136k dps.

Crit is fine.
