[3.10] Sovyn's Lazy Pally - Tanky Templar with Max Block

You guys have convinced me to drop the crit resist nodes and the Troll's blood after following up with my own crit-resist node damage reduction research. So, I guess it is a question of 3 nodes being worth it for 1.5% life regen, the slight mitigation of dmg from very rare damage spike from huge crit damage monster, and also the proximity to the string of life nodes connected to Marauder start. Is my reasoning correct, here?

Well my friend, the problem is the wasted four strength nodes to get in there, and the .4 regen node. Kind of a waste I suppose, as those points are better spent elsewhere (we actually get more life by spending them elsewhere rather than into the mara start -- rather counter-intuitive I know). However, if you are already in there, don't worry about it as we are talking about a small difference here. Wait for the next full respec in the future imo. :)

I'm tempted to try a little crafting! vaal buckler would be better with 2% more block, but it's the top 'walling' roll. now I'd need to roll evasion and resists, ideally life as well.
what do you think?

I think I'm too poor to attempt it :D right now still using perandus for max block. it's ok though, my life jumped to 5.2k after the patch (from 3.7), so I can experiment a bit.

tommigee! Unless you are strictly self found only, don't.

There are plenty of good rare shields for sale at reasonable prices here on the forums. You will expend far more currency to craft a decent shield. Besides, I would not use a regal, nevermind an exalt on it because it already has a wasted mod and the base item is too low to be worthy.
hey sovyn,

yeah I thought it's probably not worth it... and I'm not rich by any means :)
but sometimes there is the crafting itch, haha. I found a six-linked 2 hander sword a few weeks ago that would probably deserve it more, especially with the 2 hander buffs from 1.0.

thanks for the help!

Me either. :)

If I were to craft, I would start with a Vaal Buckler found in the highest tier maps I am currently accessing.

Then, I would use as many alts at it takes to roll 6% walling and either evasion or life at a decent level. Then, I would regal it and hope for the best. If that provided a useful mod, if super rich, the eternal/exalt game comes next. I doubt any of us is that rich. :) Nor would it be worth it when something like that is usually for sale for a low cost. Only for the strict self found (who would tend to be poor anyway - thus I use a mere magic item for my shield. It works great believe it or not.)
I have to advise against crafting, it's a bottomless pit of sorrow and regret. Only craft if you literally cannot find the item you want on trading sites and are drowning in currency.

On that note, here's a great resource for crafting: Click Here.

It shows you every single possible mod for every base item, along with the max roll range and the item level needed on your base item to allow a max roll range.

Rolling an Evasion shield actually doesn't look that bad. You'd want 3 of 6 possible prefixes (not that bad), and 6 of 10 possible suffixes would be acceptable (one of them has to be +6% block, but 5 of 9 acceptable suffixes is not bad at all).

For comparison's sake, Scepters have 17 possible prefixes and 23 possible suffixes (most in the game).
Does this build work on nemesis?

Thanks for sharing that spreadsheet! As the link is broken, here it is again: LINK to Google Docs

Yes, rosenkaer, The build will work on any league. If you have never played a melee build in hardcore before, you will have to be careful. If you have played a melee in hardcore before, this one is probably tankier and more survivable than whatever you had before. :) Let us know how you get along.
Just killed Dominus with this build in Nemesis on Normal.

Honestly everything has been very easy so far... whether I'm solo, in a group, whatever. However that unique boss in the library (trap guy) got me down to around 100 hp, it was terrifying.

So far so good, jumping into Cruel now.

I always use Heavy Strike on my 78 templar - the knockback with meleesplash helps a lot for me too, so I dont get smothered in mobs (with melee splash, multi strike etc).

Tried that and it works quite well. Small downside is that i lose some dmg on bosses due to the meele splash. Guess ill stick to that until i have some options to try other stuff.

Indeed! I like this build, even though it is not as fast as my other characters it got a whole lot more defense.
