GGG refuse to Add WASD to POE1
| Didn't this get explained as something they can do once they get the MTX completely ported over to PoE2? Because it means they can update the rigging in PoE1? | |
| " Why would porting things TO PoE 2 mean anything for PoE 1? The mtx....already exist in PoE 1. They are adapting the "rigging" FROM PoE 1. The reason PoE 2 exists in the first place is because the foundation of the game offers things that cannot be done in PoE 1. That includes fluid motion combat and wasd movement. | " I'll try my best to explain it a little better. So as of right now the rigging for PoE1 is extremely old which causes a lot of issues with certain features available in PoE2 that they'd like to move over to PoE1. Right now they have the team/resources working on getting all the PoE1 MTX ported over to the new rigging system in PoE2. Once they do that they can upgrade the rigging system quickly in PoE1 by essentially reverse engineering the rigging changes to get the MTX over from PoE1 to PoE2. I believe that's the explanation they gave a while back when someone asked in a Q and A when we should expect updated rigging in PoE1....which has lead to not getting all the cool features (because there's stuff that's super old that needs updated to support those features). | |
| ^I remember them saying almost the exact opposite of that. It was never about "time". If that were true, there would have never been a reason to separate PoE 2 from PoE 1. They literally had unlimited time. if it was a matter of manpower, that also wouldn't make sense.....because originally the entire company was working on an add-on to PoE 1. It only ever separated when PoE 2 became a separate game. When they recognized that much of what they wanted to implement wasn't possible within the programming of PoE 1. Not "doable with enough time"......not possible altogether. And they very clearly spelled out WHY PoE 2 was a separate game. They aren't going to "bring poe 2" into PoE 1....again, that doesn't make sense. PoE 2 is the new game for a reason. They already MADE the decision to split the design. I think you are misremembering because what you describe just simply wouldn't make sense, both from a past and future development perspective. Here's an article on likely the very interview you are trying to remember: https://www.mmobomb.com/news/path-of-exile-game-director-discusses-feature-creep-melee-combat-joshstrifehayes-interview The exact opposite of what you are saying. PoE 2 exists because "various design decisions, including the introduction of WASD movement, which required significant adjustments to accommodate." "Rogers highlighted challenges faced in improving melee gameplay, attributing issues to technical limitations and design complexities present in the original game". Those aren't going anywhere.... The port of mtx from 1 to 2 is mainly because those cost money, and they had originally promised that would happen. They'd be in super hot water if they didn't do everything in their power to make mtx work in both games. But the actual foundational operations? There is no chance they are going to go BACK to PoE 1 and do that. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Oct 21, 2025, 10:57:00 PM | |
| " Im referring to a Q and A with ZiggyD actually somewhat recently, originally they had the opinion that the rigging system in PoE1 was such a disaster they weren't going to try it or just couldnt devote the resources needed to do it. (they didnt specify which). But Jonathan said that because theyre having to adapt old code to the new rigging system in PoE2 it makes it a lot easier to update the rigging system in PoE1. Which they are going to look at doing once all that stuff is taken care of for PoE2. I agree that it wouldnt be cost effective to go through and do it all over again and it sounds like they agreed with you. But again, it sounds like they have to go back through and untangle the mess of coding in PoE1 to get the MTX ported over properly. So they did say they probably can do it at that point. | |
| " Okay, I'll have to take your word for it. I don't watch all the interviews. If that's true though......that is a HUGE middle finger to basically everything they have been saying for two+ years now They spend at least 5 years from 2019 - 2024 working on an "extension of PoE 1", only to very publicly break THAT promise and pissing off a ton of players, while giving all these reasons as the main impetus for splitting the game off.....and now less than a year later are saying "oh wait a minute, maybe we CAN after all".... | " Yeah O recall then dating this as well. Once all the MTX works on the new character models, then they can use those models in PoE1 and WASD will then be easier and better to implement. | |
| wouldn't all that imply that WASD would then only work.....with mtx? Starting anew....with PoE 2 | |
| " No I think it has more to do with the rigging and code being a disaster to work with in PoE1. Since it's so old and there's been so much put on top of it. Up until recently they didn't want to devote the time or resources to unraveling the code to make a new rigging system. But since they're having to do most of the work already they talked about just finishing it for PoE1 once all the MTX is in PoE2. Essentially they didn't plan on it but because they already have to do most of the work there thinking is "might as well". | |
