Why do I have to verify that I am human for viewing my own account??

Gladly. One example is that you state you could program a bot to behave like a human. However, solutions like ReCaptcha are designed to notice patterns and it is exceedingly difficult to write a bot capable of the randomness that is human behaviour. There are many elements to mouse movement such as acceleration, path to target, where does the subject click, time spent and more.
I also never said it stops all bots from accessing a website. Plenty of bots are able to create accounts and post advertisements. But that's actually why I went with the seatbelt analogy. The belt doesn't always save your life in a car crash, but it is far more likely to be an aid. However, none of that was the point of my original comment. Keep nitpicking at nothing and being overly defensive I guess, I'm about done arguing over semantics The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge. "Context is clicking that box. Obviously that was meant in context. I dont see how one could reasonably assume otherwise. "And all those elements can simply be copied. And if you do then its impossible to distinct that bot from a human. (In first instance, in second one can try to detect copies. But realistically anybody competent can outwit such algorithms as its much easier to modify than to detect modified copies. And its also much easier to determine for the botter if the algorithm works than its for the other side.) "Im missing your "point". My take is either its not there or I cant see it. The "nitpicking" is just to figure out which one it is. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

I already stated why I wrote my initial reply. People said they don't know what Captchas do and I simply explained. You argue against an explanation how something works, which is baffling to say the least.
I can only reiterate that I myself find the Captcha inconvenient. You do what you do with that, Zrev. The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.

"If your point is whats in your first post - already responded to that. It would be helpful to state/quote what you respond to. No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!

" You really need to read Terms of Use, paragraph 4 and 14. The 14th states: "For the avoidance of doubt, you acknowledge that you will have no ownership rights in your Member Account, including without limitation any Virtual Items connected with such Member Account." "You really need to read (paraphrasing you) the GDPR. GDPR and similar laws trumps whatever is in ToS and similar. And they also apply to free accounts. Some of that legislation was even made specifically targeting "free" models. Companies do not "own" personal user data. Edit: And GDPR also outlines specific rights of users regarding the data companies have of them. ToS cannot somehow remove the power of law. Edit 2: private -> personal No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle! Last edited by Zrevnur on Aug 29, 2024, 3:10:43 PM

" If you display your data on someone else monitor it doesn't make this monitor yours. Your user data is yours, website you see it on is theirs. Account is not your personal data, it may display it, but it is not same thing. GDPR mostly regulate storing and managing personal information. I didn't find anything in GDPR that would say you are the account owner, you only own your data and you can ask GGG any time to check, modify or delete it. Biggest compliments for my crafted items - "bs, they must have been RMT'ed" I'm disabled, I have rare case of semperduravera, so I can write things that may look rude, but it is because of disability - I'm forced to tell truth using words you may not like. " Dude, I deal with GDPR every day. Nowhere does it say that an account you have on any website can be considered "yours". All GDPR does in this regard is outlining your rights in the field of protecting your personal details. Your account information can be deleted by the GGG in order to do just that at your request or, if you don't request it, they can store it indefinitely or for some specific period of time. I cited a specific line from GGG Terms of Use that explicitly tells you that you do not own your account. If you are referring to GDPR, then tell me the chapter and article of it that would state the opposite. Otherwise, just accept the fact that you do not own your account and everything connected to it. Last edited by xxanderr on Aug 29, 2024, 3:36:51 PM

""My" account contains personal data of me. And no - an account doesnt display data - "merely" or otherwise. The website may display data though. "You are using the word "owner" here, is that even defined? I didnt use the word "own" or "owner". I said "Its fair to call it my account" (which also happens to the norm when in such context). No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle!
