The problem is getting bigger - game crashes without error message
for my end its was the same issue of crashing before reaching the log in page or the loading screen when playing the character..
all the step in tried.. re-installing, setting tweaks, update latest drivers. now starter to be able to play after getting the stupid performance core ratio down from 52x to 40x. using the XTU (Intel extreme tuning) kept the rest of the settings same. its a little bit weird that without any settings other games are able to run without a glitch. GGG really need to look into this. as it is stupid that a game could run when i was using an older ROG model with less hardware capabilities compare to current PC. this might be the issue of this game had been here for >10yrs Edit: still occasionally crash/Freeze.. haish.. donno how long to be in this kinda situation.. missed those day where playing >8hrs with issue... I have been playing POE for about 7 yrs. I started a Settler character about 1 month ago. Played a little. Played yesterday about 1/2 hr and then computer froze up!; I exited and restarted the program and it would not load the character: just hangs. Now cannot play at all, it hangs on attempt to load character every time.
I haven't changed anything on my machine from when I was playing my lvl93 character in the previous league. Can no longer play the game! It won't load the new character or any other character. I have shut down and restarted, tried different characters. I have changed nothing on the computer. I read the responses in this thread that talk about BIOS updated and Gen# of Intel chip, etc. If GGG are going to make an update that requires hardware or software upgrades or changes, they need to have a verification program that looks at your machine to insure it is comparable with the new requirements. That, and they should let us load previous versions so we do not have to buy a new computer to play their new versions.
" Apparently you haven't read the responses in this thread close enough. The BIOS update and the issues related to 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs is not due to a 'new requirement', it's because these Intel CPUs have a bug in their microcode, which causes them to become unstable and age much faster than intended, when an application requires a high amount of CPU power. That means, these CPUs might run fine for a few weeks, or a few months, or even for a year or two. But the more often they are pushed to their limits, the more likely it is for them to take permanent damage, because they get too high voltage. And even if the damage is not permanent, it makes them unstable, which can cause random crashes, freezes, or in the worst case even BSODs, that happen exactly when the CPU is used a lot, which is why they often result in identical error messages within an application (though the error message can be different from one application to another, as they use the CPU differently). It also means, that other games, which are more GPU heavy and don't stress the CPU so much, might not encounter any issues. An BIOS update can limit the power, that the CPU gets, so it prevents the CPU from receiving too high voltage, thus avoiding the issue, but the real fix would be Intel fixing their stuff. Of course, that doesn't mean that there might be another issue, that happens to show in the exact same way, since there are also people with AMD CPUs, who crash in similar places. But most of these crashes seem to be related to the faulty intel CPUs.
Thanks for the detailed clarification.
It does seem to me that there are a lot of users complaining about crashes recently, and I question whether they are all using Gen 13 or Gen 14 CPUs that all wore at about the same time. What I do know is that POE is the only application on my Alienware PC that will not run. I did notice extremely long load times to start and at transitions from place to place before it became totally unplayable. I will try to figure out what GEN CPU I have now...
My CPU is not GEN 13 or !$. POE was nice while it lasted. GGG going down the tubes. Goodby GGG. Thanks for the good times....

Started having this issue last couple weeks just like everyone has described. I tried fresh windows install and verifying steam files but nothing works. I have a 5800x3d and 3090 so not an intel issue in my case. Really hoping this gets fixed because it’s becoming where I don’t want to even play till something changes.

"Intelligent Standby List Cleaner" if you're not already using the program, download it and youtube on how to use it.
This will prevent some crashes and invisible mobs/artefacts and allows you to play long sessions. Try it out and see if it fixes your crashing issues. I remember I found this program from poe forums. Somebody suggested it and I remember a developer response similar to "yeah, we use something similar". I can't do blight maps at all without this program or crash to desktop without error. I have never had as much issues with crashing as I have this mini league. I am 100% convinced this is on GGG side, no other application or games have issues.
For me the crashes happens in Load screen (the bad crashes happens there but it can randomly crash as well), it crashes the entire PC so i need to use power button to restart, no error msgs... I am not using recent intel CPU, using a 10th gen and a 1650s. So far i have tried to reinstall POE, I have downgraded the Nvidia drivers, done a system check, tested Vulcan and setting changes in Nvidia, tested dx11 + dx12, what remains i think is to run an extensive memory test, but I think I would notice other issues using my PC if i had some defective memory. So kindaly sirs at GGG fix this issue. |
