3.23 EXPLOSIVE ARROW BALLISTA ELEMENTALIST - League-Start to End-Game. Easy mode.
Hi all,
Can i get some suggestions for next upgrade i feel i am lacking some DPS and/or survivability. |
|
" This is your POB that I'm working with: https://pastebin.com/RxSjKMYh Your key stats are: Attack Rate: 2.64 EA Duration: 1.32s Fuses: >20 Accuracy: 100% Ignite DPS (mapping): 12.6M Ignite DPS with Combustion, Convergence, Flammability: 24.4M Life: 4,968 Ele Res, Chaos Res: 75/75/75/48 Armour (%PDR): 22,005 (65%) Evasion (%chance): 12,621 (60%) It looks like you're comfortable in the toughness department. Your attack stats are fine, but the damage output is lacking. Let's try to keep everything this way while pushing you closer to the Ignite cap. 1. Shaper of Storms. You're definitely at the point that you can let go of Primal Aegis for a bunch more damage. With "40% increased Effect of Non-Damaging Ailments" in the Elemental Mastery wheel, this scales your damage by applying a minimum of 27% shock. We will keep working on getting this shock closer to 50%. If you have spots for more rolls of "#% increased Effect of Non-Damaging Ailments", you can benefit more from shock. 2. Total Increased. You have 499% on this, and we're usually aiming for a minimum of 600%. You can get more of these from getting a large cluster, and this opens you to more jewel slots for another medium cluster into a yet another free jewel socket. 3. Bow. If you swapped your crafted "+20% to Fire Damage over Time Multiplier" to "Gain (14-16)% of Fire Damage as Extra Chaos Damage", you'd get more damage. We prefer the former earlier in the build because we lacked DoT multis, but as we advance, we have enough DoT multis stacked such that the latter edges out the competition. To be clear, DoT multis are still huge, so we still aim for more of these elsewhere. 4. Quiver. Nice fracture, but you can definitely get a lot more damage (another DoT multi, higher inc. damage rolls, attack speed explicit). I'm assuming that you've stopped here because the Dex puts you at 100% suppression with Magebane. 5. Helmet, Gloves. You can get a burst of damage (around 30% MORE) by going with a double influenced helmet. The most popular choice is with "Nearby Enemies have -12% to Fire Resistance" with "Ignites you inflict deal Damage (10 - 15)% faster". This can set you back a few divines, but it's a great upgrade. The market is getting bigger too, with quite a number of these dumped from both EA and Ethereal Knives players. This means that your gloves will also need an upgrade (suppression, attack speed, life, and accuracy to fill the loss from your helmet upgrade). The upside here is that a t1 suppression at (13 - 14)% on gloves will free you to realise the full potential of your good quiver base. 6. Your ring has a good fractured accuracy mod. The rest of the stats aren't great though. You can easily essence craft a much stronger one that can offer the same life and resistances and still incorporate a damage roll. You're running only 25% increase to your huge pool of 2,440 raw accuracy, so it would feel like a struggle keeping your Hit Chance at 100%. Instead, look for mods that give % increased to supplement (e.g. Martial Prowess on clusters). 7. Watcher's Eye. Yours gives 4% damage, 5% life, and 15% attack speed; so it's really just hogging a jewel slot. You don't need to splurge on a WE; instead, go for a normal jewel that gives life, double attack speed rolls and a free last roll for increased damage, DoT multi or faster ignite. You can get stronger implicits for these plain jewels as well, including corrupted blood immunity or mana reservation efficiency. 8. Lethal Pride. I did a short writeup earlier on how to source a good (and affordable) one. If you pathed towards Dirty Techniques, it would net you a lot of damage too. Don't go crazy on faster ignites since you're already running Dyadian Dawn. You'll end up having very low ignite duration (you're now at 2.68s) so once convergence wears off, your dps against bosses will be significantly impacted. Same consequence if you're playing Simulacra -- monsters don't get to spread their ignites to freshly spawned ones because the duration is already over, so it feels like you're taking very long to finish all 30 waves. 9. Passives. We talked about clusters and pathing to Dirty Techniques, so let's free up passives to get them. As usual, you can look at dropping all totem mastery wheels except for Panopticon's. You've got Hired Killer anointed, which forces you to spend passives to path to Watchtowers. I suppose you want to keep as much toughness as possible, so the %life from Hired Killer and Herbalism must be very valuable to you. The option to compromise some life for a lot more damage is always open when you feel like it. You can probably do this once you get to lvl 100. Good luck. As always, these are merely my suggestions, so just pick whatever fits your direction.
" How are people getting their life this high? Try as I might, I can't get much more than 3500. I suppose if I switch to Hyrri's, I can clear out some spell suppression passives, but (a) most of the passives help other defenses and (b) my current armor has 104 life. Question: Does running Purity of Elements make a great deal of difference to mapping survivability when already over-capped on res with decent gear in endgame?
L4 Enlighten is 12Div+ at the moment, so I'm wondering whether its worth the investment and other changes needed to run Determination, Grace and Purity of Elements at the same time - possibly dropping Defiance Banner to do so. I guess I'm asking whether the ailments immunity provides a noticeable benefit to random-death proofing on the grind to L100. TIA Current Build: Level 100 Elementalist EA Totem

Wow limevan, I was not expecting the dissection that you gave my character. You are spot on on all my gear crafting. I needed dex on the quiver for spell suppression which is why I stopped where it was. With my limited budget I crafted pretty much all of the items in those slots after buying bases with the appropriate enchants. I guess the easiest dps increase for now is for me to allocate Shaper of Storms. I see following Palsteron's guide blindly led me to allocating Hired Killer. For more DPS I will need to revisit my tree and fix my spell suppression from loss of all the dex nodes. Thanks for giving me a great jumping off point.

" My thoughts are a proper flask setup will make you pretty well immune to any kind of elemental ailment. I run brine king so no freeze and all my flasks are set up to go off when full with charges gained when hit so they are up a lot making me immune to shock, burning and poison. This way you can drop PoE for another aura. I found using the mana reservation medium cluster allowed me to save some currency and just run Enlighten 3. Being able to run 5 auras is super strong so do what you can to make them all fit. Last edited by Zuuule on Jan 23, 2023, 2:15:25 PM

" I feel like could borrow some defensive ideas from your build. I feel like I have a similar budget put into mine but I went with a different tradeoff (more focus on dmg). https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3229979/page/246#p24886193 @limevan: thanks for a great writeup, the end game fine-tuning is hard and this helps a ton.
" Earlier in the league, I mapped all the way to level 100 while running Purity of Elements. At that point, I didn't need to take on any challenging content so there was no need for Malevolence at all. With the ailment immunity from Purity, the only thing that really scared me were random crits and map mods like "extra phys as ###". For random crits, Defiance Banner is helpful since it reduces the crit chance of nearby monsters. At that time, I was running nearly 5k HP (Belly of the Beast is dirt cheap, and gave up to 40% increased life; the life flask speed mod was also useful with such a big life tank) with moderate chaos res so I died fewer than 5 times from 95 - 100. In fact, a couple of these deaths were tilting -- monsters were all dead but the freaking poison balls that waited for you a couple of screens away will re-activate once you backtrack into them. Since we have a healthy amount of %life increase from tree available, my target at that time was a Brass Dome for complete crit avoidance plus juicy max res. However, I didn't know how crazy sanctums were in dropping divines, so I didn't have the cash at that time to buy one. Past 100, I swapped to Malevolence and there were noticeable deaths from getting shocked. The extra damage we take, coupled with other mods, could often overwhelm our layers of defence. Also, Simulacra got quite ugly at times from the alternate ailments (Scorched, Brittle and Sapped), so i avoided them unless people needed a carry for challenge completion. A few days ago, I started experimenting with Ailment Immunity without using Purity of Elements. Stormshroud gives us a way to get ailment immunity with a jewel socket and just two mods (for convenience, i got both shock avoidance mods on a pair of boots). With this, we can drop flask mods protecting against freeze/ignites and swap Major Gods to either Lunaris (great all rounder, esp with avoiding chained projectiles) or Arakaali (DoT protection). Unfortunately, Burning Ground from Exarch altars still hurts since they are not classed as an ignite, so Abberath is still useful for them. If farming Eater, Shakira is great because hips don't lie. In case it gets confusing, there is a matching jewel called Firesong, and its mod reads "Modifiers to Ignite Duration on you apply to all Elemental Ailments". This is NOT the same as ailment immunity, since you still get affected by ailments that have 0 duration.
I digress here, but to the folks that have been asking how to run Sanctums for profit, here's how i made multiple mirrors without needing to juice maps, trade for scarabs or grind yellow lifeforce.
Aim for efficiency. Get enough damage and stop there. There's no need for a DPS overkill unless you want to farm Uber Pinnacles (these are not profitable at the moment unless you're doing >100 at a go). Start a map and go straight for sanctum. If you don't have enough maps to sustain, rush for the boss for a good chance of more maps after storing the sanctum room. A popular strat for "ping-ping"ing is Atoll+Coves, since they are next to each other, and adjacent maps are favoured to drop especially if you put them as your favourites. If you have currency, you can bulk buy ~300 Dunes from TFT as well, so you save a lot of time. Dunes are easy because you can spot sanctums quickly, and the boss spawns are fixed. Your maps will pay for themselves since the invitations that drop (screaming/incandescent) are nearly 0.9d each in bulk. Take "Baptised by Fire" or "Etched by Acid" atlas passive for the extra 10% chance to double the progress so we need only 25.5 maps on average to score ~0.9d. Of course, if you don't mind waiting, you can keep listing them for 1d each, but I'm far less patient. The rest is all profit, and we're aiming for fast runs since most of us don't have a lot of time to play. If we're running into a map just for the sanctums, it takes less than a minute each if we're slow. In the first and second floor, aim for dark pacts. Merchants and Chests are fine, but EA doesn't need much help to clear the entire sanctum to begin with. Only go for reward rooms that give chaos, stacked decks or sextants; the rest are a waste of time. On floors 3 and 4, divines and mirrors become available. Don't get distracted by merchants, benevolent fountains or radiant fountains. Our sole purpose here is to get out with rewards, and killing Lycia with 1000 inspiration with 10 boons doesn't net us any profit. Once you have a good stash of relics, pick out those that give room reveals. I use a bunch of these so we get a good overview of where most divines are hidden. In those relics, you can also get some inspiration at the start of sanctum, so they can be useful too if you're as clumsy as me. Currency farming in sanctums has been the easiest profit so far, but if you want a bit more RNG, you can try for invocations by going with the unique relics. Quite a few are valuable at the moment. Balance of Terror (jewels that buff us when we self cast curses) have been a good source of money too, but most people are done buying this so it's no longer profitable unless you get a double or triple wither one. No-Hit runs are difficult unless you're very comfortable with map layouts and trap dodging; these rings were selling for around 110d each until recently. Even without looking at raw divines, getting 12 stacked decks is 0.125 div. Same thing for sextants, nearly a fifth of a divine EACH time you get them. Of course, these sell a lot more in bulk, and you don't need to spend time to price them like rares or essences. In any case, if you're having trouble getting some currency for upgrades and have been doing other strats but finding them slow or painful (trading is already awful in POE, and having to bulk trade essences or random small currency is just not enjoyable), give sanctum speedfarming a try. You need nearly 0 investment and can change strats immediately if you don't enjoy bathing in divines.
Thanks Lime that's useful!
I just started this league yesterday. Currently level 82. Just started trying Sanctums for th first time a couple hours ago and learning the ropes... Seems like an awesome mechanic! Gonna give myself one week of playtime to see how far I can push. Last edited by brunowa on Jan 24, 2023, 3:47:24 AM
