Yeah, the starter is mostly for levelling and getting to red maps. You should think about which minion to focus on for endgame.

I put SRS, skele, spectre and carrion so you can level them all up! :)
You can play anything in endgame. Most important is what you like to play :)

SRS/melee skele is the budget and SSF friendly option. Skele mage is meta now but you need 2 uniques (not SSF)

Temporary minions = lots of casting. SRS is not too bad because they move around. Skele warriors move a little. Skele mages don't move at all so it's like a totem build :P There is also a delay before they start casting (some people don't like it)

I prefer Carrion and Spectres because permanent minions don't need casting all the time. You can just run through the map.

Just finished testing new Carrion build vs mapping and endgame including Feared. It's much better than last league version (lots of defensive layers now). I'm still feeling bad with covid, so guide will be a bit slow to make :(

Spectres are the best for mapping because of ranged damage and no resummoning, but damage is pretty low nowadays. I'll retest the build soon!

Actually you can sacrfice 2 damage passives and take 2x 8% mana from sovereignty cluster :)

I just used Enlighten to minmax.

If you use skitterbots like my build. Keep you eye on them. They will run offscreen when they find monsters. Cast your skele mages at the edge of the screen where they went. This will let you stay very safe if you had bad mods on your map. When you fight bosses, don't forget to pre cast before starting.

one question: what is the best sequence of gear/gem/clusters to aim for when progressing?

Are the clusters the best first upgrades? Or upgrading gems? ETC.

You are right, and I keep forgetting that your complete build is with level 100 in mind - I am 90 now and will probably reach the mid-90's in the league. My base will be the level 87 version with one cluster jewel and I can comfortably take some extra nodes from there. DPS looks more than enough on PoB so I will take that extra efficiency and the rest will go into life since I won't have super minmaxed gear.

Do you have any thoughts on Life on Kill versus Life on Block? I already have a good rare shield with life on block and I can't afford armor with life on kill anyway, so I will be going without Aegis Aurora for now. Life on kill is obviously better for clearing but life on block might be better on bosses?

I like how your starter build is so easy to make, plays great from early on, and takes you quite far, but your endgame builds are fully minmaxed so there is a lot of room for tweaking as a player gradually works up to the complete version. At least you didn't make a Squire build for spiders xD

Ps: What is the point of Spiritual Aid?

Clusters are awesome, one with "Blessed Rebirth" is highly recommended.

= Minion created Recently cannot be Damaged ( 4 Seconds immunity)

That is very good for SRS, Phantoms but also for Skele Mages with Fleshcrafter,

poe is going down fast. Diablo 4 and Baldur's Gate 3 have no performance issues. play them instead
How the heck do we keep the carrion golem and the 2 spectres alive in the spider build? Mine completely implode the moment I come across any decently juiced pack or mechanic such as a super harbinger.

Mine get killed by harbinger packs sometimes too. Other than that they usually have no problem in t16 or guardians.

The big difference is that I am still Necromancer, and I am worried about survivability too once I switch to Occultist. I don't have a Renewal/Feasting Fiends jewel, nor the two Covenant jewels, and I won't for some time. I have all the curse auras on and I apply Enfeeble and Temporal Chains (no Despair yet) so those play their part.

I am still fine tuning the final pieces of the build so for now if something works, I keep it until an upgrade is obvious. That is 6/8 Necro too - since I planed to switch to Occultist I haven't done the last lab yet!

Your Carrion is Lvl 19 and Quality gives 10% life , Minion Live has also 0% Quality and you could give minions with jewels and on the tree even more if necessary.
