Whenever you get a chance feel free to to look it over and let me know what I need to change.

My edits: https://pastebin.com/zRgjxrGE

1. I only reallocated some life nodes to take Tireless (gives you +2% life and some mana cost reduction).

2. I removed 1 Aura Area of Effect and 1 Axe and Sword Damage nodes. I reallocated 1 of them to Hard Knocks (so you can anoint something else) and the other one to Axe Mastery: Bleeding you inflict deals Damage 15% faster.

3. The new amulet anoint should be either Safeguard or Dirty Techniques.

4. The notable locations on large cluster jewel are not efficient; ideally, you don't want to take the notable at the back. With an efficient large cluster you only need to take 1 small node, 2 notables and 2 sockets. This will save you 2 skill points.

5. Gems: you can drop Fortify Support and fit in something else like a Stone Golem. You should try using either Shield Charge or Leap Slam. I think you may be at a point where Dash CD is too long and you need to be constantly walking (or using Quick Silver). I think the next big investment is an Enlighten L3 so you can fit in Flesh & Stone.

6. You should divine your gloves to 12% life (4% extra life) then Bless both curse modifiers to 48% effect.

7. I highly recommend getting a Blue Nightmare for the top jewel socket.

8. There are a couple places where you can improve your damage: amulet, boots and helm. For amulet, you can get a T1/2 flat physical + DoT multiplier for pretty cheap (and hopefully with good resistance). For helm, you need to slam a Conqueror Orb then randomize influence then Harvest reforge Physical. For boots, you can refer to the boots section of the guide (maybe as a crafting project).

Your gears are over all solid, DPS is decent. More spell block will help you survive.

Excellent advice, I hugely appreciate you taking the time to do this.

How does Anointing work btw? I skipped that league and then never bothered to learn it. Obviously I'll google it now lol, but if you had any "wish I knew going in" about it, I'll take it :D

In case you haven't Googled yet, you can Anoint any notable in the tree without connecting to it, essentially giving you a free skill point. The cost of each notable varies and you can check the cost required by hovering any notable in PoB (or in game by pressing Alt/Ctrl...forgot which).

This is the first character that i properly fine-tuned (equipment, passive tree, etc.)

I have about 5k life which im happy with, but my damage isnt that great. pob says i have about 400k dps.

for the first time ever i beat guardian of phoenix, but i lost hard against guardian of chimera.

The main problems I feel are: i dont do enough dps, and even with 5k life i feel squishy. I have 75/75 block with glancing blows

Any suggestions to improve?

If you can share your PoB, I can take a look.

This is a great, detailed guide, does anyone know if there is a similar one but for impale/crit lacerate?

As you probably already seen on Reddit, Impale/Crit Lacerate is not at a good spot right now. It's better to use a different skill as Lacerate is more designed for bleed builds.

Edit: However, I'd happy to help with your bleed version if you can share your PoB.

Here is my pob https://pastebin.com/rHQED4vh

The foundation of my pob is your pob, but i tried to customize it a little because i like having 75/75 block chance. I am sure there is a lot of things to fix, im only a few months into poe.

My main issues are only two: Not enough damage (only 400k) vs guardian of chimera/phoenix etc, and I dont feel that tanky (perhaps I need determination aura?)

I have a number of characters and i must say this is easily my most successful one. No one else can do red maps, let alone reach those guardians. This one beat guardian of the phoenix although it took a while.

Thanks for looking at my pob

Updated: https://pastebin.com/7aGqcH2w

1. Reallocated some nodes, see below
2. Added Vulnerability curse
3. Changed 6 link gems to 20/20 (to show realistic DPS), changed DPS to Sirus.
4. Added a small Thread of Hope to get Dirty Technique

Final updated DPS is Sirus 670k (or 870k normal DPS, almost double of what you had). I think this is achievable with 1-2 ex of investment.

Here are my details comments:

Equipment: Overall lacks DoT multiplier and flat physical damage from rings, amulet and gloves.

1. Weapon: Quality it to 20%, divine it to close to 150% increased physical damage.
2. Shield: Quality it to 20%.
3. Amulet: It provides no benefit to this build other than the mana leech and anoint. I think you can get a much better one with almost no investment.
5. Gloves/Ring 2: No crafted modifier.
6. Chest: I think there is some room for improvement depending on your budget.

Tree: Overall good, eventually you want to include cluster jewels. In my opinion, Glancing Blow is not the best option for this build, since we do not have enough life on block or life leech. I think using it to transition is acceptable.

1. Removed Steadfast notable (4 points). I don't think you can maintain maximum stack of fortify in T14-16 maps. Reallocated points Vanquisher, Call to Arms, bottom jewel socket (to take Dirty Technique).
2. Minor changes to a couple of other nodes, you can compare the tree in PoB for those (Default vs Edited tree).

Gems: PoB is a little messy so I don't know which auras are yours. I only updated the Lacerate links to all 20/20 gems (just to check the DPS).

1. I strongly recommend using Cruelty over Swift Affliction support until you can get the awakened gem.
2. Chance to Bleed support must be Divergent quality. This is very important.
3. L21 Lacerate will also give you some DPS boost (when you get there).

Others:

1. There is no Vulnerability on Hit or self-cast. This is a huge DPS loss. I would say the most important offensive powers come from your weapon, belt and curse.

2. Once you address the above you can look into upgrading your gears with more offensive/defensive power, right now they are focused on life and resistance. There is a lot of room to improve but you may be limited to your budget.

For Chimera, you can't stand in his circle when he flicker strikes because you are still taking damage with Glancing Blow. As long as you can avoid that, you should be fine.
