This was my league starter, and it just can't melt things as fast as I thought it would.

My Gear

also using 3 clusters with Burning Bright, Widespread Destruction, Wrapped In Flame, Brewed for Potency, and Molten Ones's Mark

What a nice helmet enchantment! To me, it would be worth multi-modding it: multi-mod/ resistances/ (8-10)% increased Area of Effect, +1 to Level of Socketed AoE Gems

All of your gear is just awesome. The amulet is a dream. I can't understand why your witch doesn't kill quick enough.

What I don't understand is why you use the Writhing Jar... is it because of the worms? I never understood what that flask is for :D

it's not an elder helm, it was the easiest item to color and gives the golems a lil boost.

The jar is in testing, seeing if it helps with keeping charges up on Cinderswallow. I don't see how 2ex on dying sun is worth it as i'm at 89% fire resistance

I misunderstood multimod... I ran out of currency and don't have the higher tier unveils

I'm not sure if the linking of gems here fails to distinguish between corrupted gems and Vaal gems, but neither of you (istehwin and Freakynorm) seem to have the Vaal variant of Righteous Fire. The tooltip does say corrupted, but it doesn't mention its Vaal component.

So if you don't have it, Vaal RF is the way to go. That alone might be enough to make life a bit easier.

I also found my damage throughput was increased by self-casting Cold Snap (for triggering elemental equilibrium) and Flammability. Not having to wait for incoming damage to get these two off is nice.
Also if the Wave of Conviction+Purifying flame CwDT goes off, I can quickly reapply the right Elemental Equilibrium with Cold Snap.

Hey Vistn. Some info about Vaal skill gems and corruption in general. Those gems you mentioned are displayed correctly. If you corrupt an item with a Vaal orb it gets the "Corrupted" tag, meaning it can't be changed any further (or corrupted again). It can also have some special outcomes. (Items/gems can also drop as corrupted, skipping the Vaal orb. Imagine the game used a Vaal orb on it for you.)

Corrupting a skill gem has these outcomes:

Nothing: it gains the "Corrupted" tag but does not change
Level: UP or DOWN one level
Quality: UP or DOWN by up to 3% quality
Vaal: if the skill gem has a Vaal version (like Vaal RF) it can become that

So corrupting is a gamble. A regular gem can max out at level 20, 20% quality. (20/20) Then you Vaal it, and hope for higher level (21/20) or higher quality (20/23). But it could stay unchanged or go down as well.

You can also use the level 3 gem room in the Temple of Atzoatl to double corrupt a gem-- two corruptions at once! This could create a (21/23), or Vaal (21/20), or Vaal (20/23)... and so on. Or a (19/17). RIP.

A Vaal skill gem is like 2 gems in one. Usually the Vaal skill is stronger, but at the cost of having to be charged by killing monsters. You get 2 separate skills on your bar, in this case RF and Vaal RF. Vaal RF is a nice little boost because when you use the skill it gives some bonus damage in a larger area. But only for a few seconds while the skill is up. At all other times the regular RF is unchanged. They are two separate skills equipped at once.

istehwin has a (21/23) RF which is extremely rare and valuable. The higher gem level and quality give RF extra damage all the time, arguably better than having access to the Vaal skill. Note it is impossible to have a Vaal (21/23) as that would be three corruptions.

You're right about self-casting a cold skill! I like most of the CWDT triggers in this build but I have to say, if you can stand to press one more button, it's way more reliable to apply your EE and curse yourself. I myself went for a 3-link with Orb of Storms - Hextouch - Flammability, so one click drops Orb of Storms, triggering EE and the curse.

Never mind, it was just an idea/suggestion. I love playing around with the crafting-bench. But I remember how time-consuming it can be to unlock all the crafting recipes in a league.

I'm still enjoying myself with this build, I have to say, though it is a little offputting seeing people already with better gear than I'm probably ever going to get saying the build peters out / isn't worth investing in! I'm hoping it's just a case of mismatched expectations and I'll still enjoy myself to the end. I'm clinging to @Caligula_Exile's positivity (-:

Thanks for the info! Didn't realize his gem was that strong.

Also good idea on the Hextouch. I have room for it already so I'm definitely going to add it to my setup.

I'm glad my postings are having a positive effect on someone. :)

So far I am really having a blast with this witch. I hope you will, too. Your amulet is amazing. I guess it makes it worth playing league.
