[3.16] Coldslinger | Vortex | Creeping Frost | League Start | SSF | CI/LL

I saw you switched Orb of Storms with Frost Shield in the PoBs.

Is OoS not needed anymore for EE?

How would one go about SSF League starting with this build?
None of the starter gear is mandatory and the few uniques mentioned in the starter build are pretty common. Shouldn't have any big issues there.

Making the swap to CI, just ensure you've stacked up decent ES gear (crafting it along the way) and be sure to POB before making the change and that you're happy with your eHP and sustain.

Aiming to go LL is the big challenge. A few different strategies out there on setting your Atlas for sustain on Cells/Scriptorium/Tower/Core (anywhere with a Shav boss). I'd imagine those might need to be reviewed once we experience the changes with the new Atlas Passives. A more efficient way might pop out than farming the div cards.

Personally I'm just planning on SSFing the CI version. I'll make a call on chasing the Low Life after playing with the league mechanics a bit and seeing what drops I have to enable another potential build (I've a Hiero BV version in my head I'd love to get rolling if I get some lucky drops).

Hi guys, i would like to try elementalist version. It looks more tanky for me. But could you advise - 500 ES regen is good defence (i'm not sure)? It is with stone golem =)

I can't recommend Elementalist for this build honestly, I feel it will be too clunky without inherent stun immunity on league start. 500 ES regen is pretty decent, but make sure you take off Wicked Ward if you're going with regen versus recharge.

A quick question about the switch from Frenzy to Power Siphon - is the primary motivation the built-in volley on Power Siphon for better AOE application of the linked curses now that the build is focusing on Malediction?

That's exactly right! It also affords you a gem socket to put in the 2nd curse since you don't have to drop GMP.

What would be the last thing u grab for ascendancy? would it be malediction

Yep, Malediction would be last. You won't need the 10% reduced damage taken + Enfeeble until late in the game.

Hi! thank you so much for this guide, i'll be trying it this league after felt in love with vd+dd spellslinger on 3.11 (and getting my heart destroyed with the nerfs on 3.12 :P)

how does this build manages with bossing? there is any change on the strategy of the attacks or you just do the same that when you clear?

Thank you again and have a great league start!

Best of luck on league start! It's okay with bossing as CI and league-start gear, not the best. You can still kill T16 bosses with absolute garbage gear. For LL, it is really, really good. Avoid attacking constantly to prevent screwing up EE, but make sure there is always at least a Vortex/Creeping Frost under the boss.

As the TsuDhoNim said, this build doesn't need uniques to make it work; however, Rime Gaze + Trigger are huge power spikes and great things to chase. They're obtainable and not too difficult to get. Make sure you take a look at the league start section of the guide, it has a ton of information- specifically aimed at SSF/no trading.

OoS is pretty clunky to rely on since it casts on the ground of the caster. It isn't the best for us to proc EE, and Frost Shield actually works really well to force energy shield recharge. It pretty much guarantees you always have energy shield recharge going when you facetank a pack!

Thanks a ton for the build. I haven't played a league in almost a year and this looks like it scratches an itch for what I wanted to play. I was looking at your LL More Damage Endgame POB and I have a few questions. They might be stupid.

I have usually always died from ground effects (explosions) and one shots from offscreen when I am picking up loot. I know GGG loves that stuff so with both the new league mechanic plus the new atlas boss fights I was wondering if I changed these gems, will it be effective or will Chris Wilson personally call me to tell me I am bad at his game?

My main thought process behind this is that since Power Syphon is an attack, if we get +# Lightning or Fire damage to attacks which is pretty easy to get on ring/glove/jewels/ or boots this would proc our EE. Then I can switch the following:

Wand: Frost Bomb, Void Sphere, Frost Wall - this would help group mobs for dots, remove corpses, Hinders mobs, and give me something to hide and cast behind.

Gloves: Charged Dash, Cast while Channeling, Frost Bolt, Arcane Surge (not sure what level). This gives me another move skill and all the Frost Bolts I want. Charged Dash also procs EE. You can easily channel in place from behind the Frost Wall.

Boots: Disciple, Vitality, Flame Dash, Power Siphon - this brings back vitality to help recovering from big boss hits and gives culling with Power Siphon

Ring: Frostbite on Hit. Losing max level Frostbite and a whole Elemental Weakness hurts but hopefully I can make up some damage by doing...

Drop Malediction Pick up Forbidden Power

From your Level 93 POB Tree 4 points gets Infused and Overcharge for 2 more Power Charges. 4 More points gets Discipline of the Forbidden for a 7th Power charge and another 8% damage per charge. These could also be picked up while waiting to afford the Cluster Jewels. Dropping a couple things like Might if you have Strength on gear or Arcane Vision helps us get there.

It seems like it might be safer for a little less damage but I am not sure. And feedback? Again, thanks for the build and the time you take to explain everything. hope you drop a Mirror this league.

You should be able to make a lot of mistakes and take quite a few hits with the tanky version. You won't be immortal (because you have no sustained regen), but you're also only 25% likely to die from a Shaper smash or really big hit.

The concepts should work, but I don't think they mesh with the playstyle of Spellslinger. With Spellslinger, you want to move around as much as possible and dodge things before they even come at you- you don't want to stand still. You'd be better to drop Spellslinger entirely if you want to do something like that. Power charges are not a good investment for DoT builds since they do not benefit from the % crit chance- the 8% damage + 6% damage per power charge isn't worth the opportunity cost.

I just did a SSF run-through of the build before the league, aiming to play SSF in the league. Getting to the spellslinger/vortex is a bit annoying but the fun starts after that.

Straight out of A10, 3.2kES, 100k trash (not boss) DOT DPS (got a lucky 5link). Not optimized in the least. Jewellery and boots are crap.

Seems very promising, thanks for the build!

EDIT: Question: what would be the most important first upgrade milestone in SSF? Trigger spell wand? +1 Wand? Not sure what to focus on apart from progressing the Atlas.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's better to grab the % spell damage nodes on the left side of witch start to level faster and respec later. This should make it feel much better before Spellslinger.

Since you already have a 5L (which would be my first priority in SSF), I'd try to find a semi-decent wand. Trigger craft is good (~30-40% more damage if you include some slight downtime with the procs), but kind of useless without a decent base wand. It doesn't need to be crazy, but something like ~70%+ spell dmg/cold dmg and maybe cold dot multi or +1. The great thing is you can do both of these in the upcoming expansion, just grab the veiled items zana ascendancy early on!

I'm assuming you are talking about the Bribery ascendency.

Yep, those are it! To me, those nodes are 100% required for SSF along with the Harvest ones in that zone.

Hi, is there a major difference between this coldslinger and a regular self cast cold snap vortex build? I'd like to try out vortex league start and was just curious to the difference in playstyles.

Aside from that great guide, and I'll definitely be trying this out!

Thank you, I appreciate that! If you're dead-set on Cold DoT Occultist, I would highly recommend at least league starting this variant and transitioning to self-cast if you prefer that playstyle. I personally prefer to be a potato and press 1 button while I play. I hate the concept of flasks and 2-button builds

They're the same concept, but different ways to play. His variation is built around speed, and mine is built around not dying to a feather duster (but also slower). If you're good at dodging things, you can afford to have less ES and focus on damage/speed. I personally don't think RF is worth the socket slot. It gives a pretty good damage boost, but only for 4 seconds. On average, it'll take you around 30 seconds to kill a juiced Mino on the LL version. VRF is only worth using if it makes the difference in cheesing a boss in my opinion. Hope this helps!
