Can anyone tell me why I can have three specters when my skill gem says 2 and I don't have any +1 specter mod or anything like that?

And should I pick up a slave driver as the third specter or another host/carnage ape?
Hey Elocara!

Death Attunement on the tree gives you one more Spectre. (I don't play with specific Spectres though, so I can't help with your choice there.)

You get 2 at gem level 13 and read death attunement on your tree :)

Facepalms... thanks for helping out the blind! XD

Edit: But... some very smart people (read: twitch chat) told me that everyone used slave drivers! Does everyone know better or are they just missing out on the charges? Are they equal in damage output and up to taste? I really don't understand the math, especially since we can't even see the dps of our undead friends.

Well I am SURE they are right, however, slave drivers are using lightning, so they are being gimped by our EE. Dwaine uses 3 Frost Sentinals, I used apes and Frost sentinel. Back in the good old days of 4 specters I used 2 of each ape! But play around, thats the beauty of this build, you can stray a bit and still get to the same place! OK fine we are gem starved here so I don't even like to suggest this BUT people who use apes link them to Blood Magic so the cast charges non stop. I don't recommend this because you barely have a slot for specters much less a support. Like I said, even 1 charge is a huge boost for minions.

And read around as well, I here there is a new specter in town, some arena champion or something...

Also if you download POB (path of building) and get the fork (all of this is easy with google) you can get A LOT more detail of what you are actually doing damage wise:)
I will wear your ghost and you will die twice, against me and for me.
That is some cold blooded shit to say...

Hi all ;)

I miss this discussion thread, but since the death of my last SSF hardcore Delirium SLOW-MO Zombies Witch I have restarted a character with the Kay's Spectre build to change my mind.

A lot of people use the Slave Driver Spectre because they are easy to get (Control Block, Act 5), they are fast (movement and attack) and powerful. But like GrunkleBob said, you can't use them with this build because of Elemental Equilibrium. You can only use offensive Spectre with Fire, Cold, Chaos or physical attack, but not lightning.

But like this build is centered on strong Zombies, you can get great benefit from "support" Spectre like Carnage Chieftain (frenzy charge), Host Chieftain (power charge), Ruins Hellion (Rallying Cry) ...etc

For builds centered on Spectre they are a lot of interesting monsters at higher levels but harder to obtain, like "Enhanced Vaal Fallen" in Temple of Atzoatl, or "Redemption Sentry", from Redeemer-influenced maps.
What did you guys take out to add the Spectres to this build?

I've tried this build with Frost Sentinels and Solar Guards and fwiw my vote goes to SG. Haven't tried it with support Spectres yet, might do so soon!

The FS has better firing speed and range but the SG damage is just sickening. They're splatting entire mob clusters before I even see them with the beam nuke.
Love the build. I'm having a blast. Thank you.

I am almost at the point where I can get Elemental Equilibrium, and I am still unsure about it.

You say
"
"A big part of the Zombie damage in this build comes from our Hatred aura. It gives cold damage to the Zombies. Minion Instability's explosions are fire damage."

Then you say
"
"A neat thing about EE is that it is only applied to enemies by us, not our minions. So, even though our minions are hitting the enemies over and over with cold or fire damage, they aren't giving the enemies extra resists of those elements."

So I am wondering, how does it get applied? The only damage is from zombies and skeletons and you say minions cannot apply it.

Please help me understand. Thanks

This is my current gear. Pretty crap I know but it's working for me. Totally poor like 4 chaos atm. Yeah I am from beta but I haven't played in years :)

The Elemental Equilibrium is applied by the ball lightning linked to "Cast when damage taken".

While leveling, if your "Cast when damage taken" doesn't trigger often, you can swap it with an Arc gem (or any lightning spell) of level requirement higher than 38, and cast it manually.

Note:
The "curse on hit" is triggered by the "ball lighting", and the "Enfeeble" is triggered by the "curse on hit", so both of them don't need to stay on the "Cast when damage taken" requirement (lower or equal to level 38), only the "ball lighting" has to.

You can upgrade the 2 other gems til level 20.

Basically how it works is this:

You hit the enemy with Lightning by using either Arc or Ball Lightning on a Cast When Damage Taken trigger. I prefer Arc because it seems to trigger more often, and as some people have said upthread, Vaal Arc is a great thing for Legion encounters etc. You keep the CWDT gem at lvl1 so that it procs as soon as anything looks at you sideways, meaning you're nearly constantly spitting curses and lightning everywhere.

As soon as you damage them with lighting, even a little, EE buffs their lightning resists, but lowers their resistance to Cold and Fire, making them take more damage from those elements.

Since your minions do Cold/Fire damage, and their attacks don't apply EE, they are free to take advantage of the vulnerability you've created to do piles of damage in the elements you've now created a resist hole in.
