[3.10] Gryph's Volatile Dead Necromancer || Fun, Medium Budget, Tanky, Millions of DPS
I had a couple options lined up to test in case spirit offering got destroyed since I prefer the CWC+scold's version to the CoC version, and I think I have something that will work... I have tested it running 2 or 3 normal maps right now, and I had a sirus saved up, so I have also done a L8 Sirus as a test as well.
That being said the gear requirements probably go up a bit and you have to be a bit more careful taking big hits. It also might end up working better as a Elementalist now than a necro, but I still need to play with the tree. For sure don't copy the tree I have atm, as I had to drop the serpent stance cluster to test something, so I need to re-route to the jewel socket by CI and am still playing around with how I want to do that. What I did was: 1) Drop corpse pact to keep my APS (and thus self damage) in check 2) Slot a Doryani's Glorious Vanity for Corrupted soul to split the remaining self damage between health and Energy Shield 3) Use high health regen (including consecrated ground from a CwDT Purifying flame or Zealots oath setup), Aspect of Spider + Spinnerets for ES on Hit, fire damage leached as life (either via watchers eye or fossil/temple necklace), and the energy leech support for sustain. 4) shuffled my CwDT links around to get a ball lightning in the same multi proj setup as my unearth Currently my health regen is high enough that it is still positive while spinning, and my ES drain is slow enough that while in my hideout I can spin for ~26 seconds before my ES runs out. as long as I am hitting anything I easily sustain. The only real notable change is that when I take a big hit that really cuts into my HP I find it best to stop spinning for a second to let my HP refill as opposed to just plowing forward. I will prob also notice a difference on Burning ground/desecrate maps, but haven't ran one yet. |

" I mean you can probably make it work in other ways via leech, on hit recovery (life or ES), regen, etc...It's just not super broken anymore. I would go for a different method at this point. Probably Poet's Pen + Spellslinger for a similar feel. Really going to miss the tankiness of this though. |
|
" Honestly if I were to try this build more I would go CI and focus on ES Regen and ES leech for recovery. At this point though I'm not sure if Necromancer is the best ascendancy though. While Corpse pact is REALLY strong, it's not essential to the build functioning. That said, I'm going to be focusing on my Blade Blast build. Losing the ES from spirit offering affects that as well (defensively) so I need to decide on how to continue approaching it. |
|
Yeah, I when all is said and done most of the blade blast builds I was looking at will be pretty interchangeable with this build. I have also penciled a couple Poet Pen + Spell slinger builds together, but I think I just like Cyclone as a vehicle to much better. I played this build long enough that when I try to go to stationary things it just doesn't feel good lol.
I don't really know why I just blanked on going pure CI with zealots oath or something. Honestly, since you only cast VD ~3 times a second with this build, you really only need to do hit your CwDT triggers like 2 times a second even with regular spell cascade in the VD link, so that shouldn't be so bad. I have just gone hybrid for a super long time and completely blanked on CI lol... I honestly only would need to swap a couple pieces of gear too, but it does make me mad since this was my first build that finally got decent Chaos res and that would be meaningless now lol. |

" I wouldn't want to poet's pen without bodyswap or lightning warp somewhere. hahaha. Spellslinger can be inserted into current VD PP builds with just a movement skill and be great as is I would think. I figured it out a while ago that I needed something like 2k ES recovery per second to overcome scold's damage. haha. Also GETTING enough ES is gonna be hard with a staff. |

Rut ro.
Spirit offering no longer grants a portion of the minion's maximum life as Energy Shield. Loved your build, Gryph!
RIP :(
Was gonna play this the first time this league and as my starter.
" Overall I am pretty happy with the way my modified Necro is performing. Sadly I don't think I will be able to get the Elementalist version to work because I just tried specing out of Gluttony and my mana tanks like instantly lol. In the end the damage was a lot closer than I would have thought (the ele basically only did more because I would have perma shock still with it). I think I could actually shuffle things around on the necro to make room for Vaal Lightning trap, but I would still lose out on damage vs Sirus. Honestly my damage is high enough I am probably better off with the necro anyway since Plaguebringer at least brings something defensive to the build and my damage will still be ~6.5mil Sirus DPS even with the new tree i have that drops throat seeker and corpse pact I honestly haven't really played with Poets Pen much despite having a couple in my stash. When you put Swap or Warp in the pen and are fighting a single target (like shaper/Sirus/elder), does it just keep warping you on top of them automatically, because I think that would just annoy me too much. Or where you talking about something else? |
|
" For poet's pens it warps you to where your cursor is. It works well with VD bc you can kinda skirt around and let the balls autotarget the bosses. Also if it does end up being too cumbersome having it on spellslinger will make turning it off for a boss fight really easy. For me it's mostly for the mapping side of things. |

RIP. Was an incredible build. I wish I could get a refund on the volatile dead skill effect that I bought.
