That is actually not a bad idea. I'll support this :)

L2 currently has an existing function that's kind of necessary for aiming purposes: force stand still. You can't use R2 because that's also tied to combat abilities (it's the switch to the mapping for abilities #5-#8). There really aren't any binds they could set it to other than the combo bind simply because of the lack of more buttons on the controller. It's one of the compromises GGG had to make to accomodate PoE's relatively high number of keybinds in console form.
And yes, it's frustrating. |

" The touch pad could be used to do what L3 does, allowing for L3 to be used for looting. |
|
" I'm afraid it can't. The touch pad is used to bring up the inventory screen. And you wouldn't want to use L3 or even R3 to loot. Besides the rather harsh wear and tear on the joysticks, it's nowhere near as responsive to press those two "buttons", nor as easy to press them, as the other buttons on the controller. Now, if they hadn't done away with start/select in favor of those god awful tiny options/share buttons we'd have usable buttons for something other than just the current combat mappings. Honestly, keyboard/mouse support is what's sorely needed for the console versions. It makes no sense that it isn't offered other than "bleh, too much work" (and to their credit it is more programming work, though hopefully that's a one-time affair to get it into the game). |

" The touch pad can be split into multiple buttons, meaning the right side can be used for inventory, and the left for doing what L3 does. I don't know how you hold the controller for l3 to be hard to press |
|
It isn't that L3 is hard to press, though it does require more direct force than any other button, it's that it wasn't designed for constant pressing and would cause undue wear and tear on the joystick's physical contacts.
And I've yet to find any game that differentiates between left and right side button presses on the touchpad. AFAIK, both are routed as the same input. A couple of underside triggers would be lovely for this though. |

" Much this. My right analogs are trash from all the DD2 looting. I only have one non-sticky one now. It's definitely never gonna be used for that game. Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.

Personally, I don't mind using X because I just don't put a skill in there. But my problem is when there is loot right beside a NPC or a portal. Once you pick up an item, it automatically focuses on the NPC or portal making you have to move the cursor off it to pick up more loot. Very annoying if you are trying to pick up a pile of loot. To fix this I would make interacting with NPC's or portals or environmental stuff a different button than the loot button. To free up a button I would combine the current touchpad and option button functions into one menu from the options button, then use the touchpad for interacting. Another option could be L2 + X for interacting while keeping X for looting. Using left and right sides of the touchpad for different functions would work here too. Another different idea would be to utilize the gyroscope in the controller. To interact with stuff which you might do only 3 times in a map, you could just tilt the controller to right or just shake it or something.
So many options here, I feel this game was not playtested enough on console or they would have easily seen how difficult it is to loot stuff. |

" In Dark Souls the left side of the touchpad is bound to the emote menu and the right side is your inventory. :) |
