You'd be much better off with lightning pen instead of innervate and with conc effect instead of inc AoE.

You can get enough AoE from a carcass jack and your skill tree (and even a corruption on belt).

Innervate is really one of the least satisfying gems they added recently. You warp everywhere so the move speed is meh. And lightning pen outdamages the extra cast speed. Not to mention once you get to the boss room where you actually would NEED the dps increase, innervate doesn't give you any whereas lightning pen kicks into high gear.

Simplesim is right.
I disagree Innervate is not satisfying, I think its a great gem.
However, Conc.effect and Lightning pen should work better for you.

I want to clarify something that was asked many times before about Cold Penetration gem:


Cold Penetration beats Cold to Fire, but we need 2 red sockets so we can swap Cold to Fire with Fire Penetration when using Flame Surge for more Single Target DPS. We deal enough AoE damage, its best for us to keep this additional red slot to melt bosses with Flame Surge + Fire Penetration. You also need this additional red socket to use LIfe Leech gem against Elemental reflect maps. (+Empower, therefore total 2 red sockets).

How would you recommend a 21 level witch to get some extra dexterity points? Don't have enough to upgrade "added cold damage" gem.

Simply take a +30 dexterity node from the passive tree, and remove it later when you have some gear with dexterity.
