[outdated] Caustic Arrow Solo Map MFer (20/300+)
Love the thread...gonna try this out this league. For leveling, do we know yet where the Frostbolt/Vortex gems are awarded from? I've looked around but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance!

wouldn't it be better to spend one of the 2 extra ascendancy points on raider instead of path of the ranger, i do understand the reasoning behind why you went with path of the ranger in the first place, but i was wondering if raider would be better for the 10% chance to gain frenzy on kill and onslaught on full frenzy charges gives us a very nice boost to movement speed as well.
thanks as always | |

" A) Yes. It's the slower projectiles that has the greater impact than anything else. While it does have much greater implications for late-game Spark, it also impacts the leveling process. Is it significant? Probably not. But it will impact it. As with any other levelling spell, you want +1 gems (in this case cold) for the Frostbolt combo. Two sceptres would be ideal. I think you have the right idea with the Frostbolt links, but given that it appears as though we can only trigger one bolt at a time, I doubt GMP would be beneficial unless somehow Spell Echo allowed us to target multiple Frostbolts at a time. Otherwise, Faster Casting is probably the choice so that we could get all three bolts to Nova/Vortex, in a 3L setup. Once both Conc Effect and Controlled Destruction are available to use, however, I would probably drop the +gems Sceptre for a 4L for Nova/Vortex + Faster Casting + Conc + Controlled, as the multiplicative benefit would trump a single gem level. To that end, buy or mule a Clarity. No need to hamper your leveling damage unnecessarily by not having the mana available. " Nobody knows yet. Should be up on the wiki fairly quickly after launch though, or on reddit. Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018. Last edited by Serleth on Jun 2, 2016, 1:04:22 PM

I have a feeling nova will be best if we use faster casting, as the vortex converts the projectile into a moving vortex, without needing to cast it multiple times. However, by the time we get spell echo, we are already around the level to convert to caustic arrow, should we have the proper now.
Leveling right now is between flame totem searing bond fire storm, ice bolt, and spark/orb of storms. Flame Totem/Searing Bond/Firestorm: Tried and true, very strong, and very safe. This however is somewhat boring. With high base damage achievable on fire storm and flame totem, along with very easy to craft leveling gear, makes this still a very wise choice. Spark/Orb of Storms: Orb of Storms now does negligible damage, making it useless for leveling, and the spark nerfs make it a poor choice compared to the other leveling techniques. Frost Bolt/Nova/Vortex: Probably the best leveling option right now. Because they are new skills, their damage will be fairly balanced, allowing is to utilize them well with our limited start of league resources. The mechanics may change as the league goes on, but simply because of the multiplicative support gems, on top of easy to craft leveling gear, and high base damage, makes this very strong. Ultimately it will come down to firestorm/flame totem/ searing bond and frost bolt/vortex/nova. The former is easy to run, however very boring. The latter will be new and exciting, with maybe some more mechanical difficulty. I have a feeling the latter will be semi-broken, due to how new it is, and untested on a large scale. Ps: sorry about punctuation, writing this on my phone |

" +1 Would also add that self-cast or totem bladefall is very strong. I plan on going dual bladefall totems (buff to spell totem will help a bit for an already strong skill) and sticking with them for quite awhile while I farm for a +1/+2 bow. |
|
" Noob question: how will you get dual bladefall totems, by Ancestral Bond? It looks way to far away (~20 points?) from our main skill path... | |
It's fine as long as you're willing to invest the regrets in afterwards.
I can't recall offhand the amount of respec points you get, but it's to the tune of ~15-20 ish just from questing. So with something like this tree, you will have 46 or so points to respec, so around 25-30 regrets or so. Bit expensive, but regrets are also fairly cheap in new leagues, often less than 1:1c. This build recovers that quickly enough. Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018.

" Yup, I'll beeline Ancestral Bond. You get 18 respec points if you do all the requisite quests - that will cover the bulk of off-pathing. I'll likely take some other temporary nodes though (resists maybe or mana) so I'll be spending a few regrets as well, but not alot - probably 10 or so. Bladefall totems are quite strong on their own so once I straight-path into Ancestral Bond, I won't be taking any other bladefall support nodes except possibly mana nodes if needed (clarity and the mana nodes along the path to Ancestral Bond should be plenty though). Keep in mind too that I'll likely be level 85 or so when I eventually switch to CA - for that reason I want my leveling skill to be very strong, even into maps. Edit: This is the minimalist path I'll take and once that's in I'll just start filling in CA nodes. Last edited by hankinsohl on Jun 2, 2016, 4:26:15 PM

I find the best time o switch to caustic arrow is when you get your hands on a 5l bow that you can craft +2 on. At that point, your ca should be high enough level that you can do good damage, as long as you have been leveling your support gems as well/done the quests. From there you can grab decent res rings until you can get a drillneck, goldwyrm, and andvarious rings. Usually around level 50 is when I try to switch. I at least will finish a3c with caustic arrow. At that point you can still rely heavily on totems, if ou find damage is lacking.
