So I have no idea what to do now. I've died to Drox again. I failed the first sirus (A4/5) as well. Sirus failure is probably due to inexperience as I have never done the fight before and got stuck on the walls.
I lost to drox probably because I didn't kill the adds in time and got overwhelmed but my damage and survivability were low to begin with.
I have about 5 ex and 600 chaos saved up. What should I do to improve my build? Should I swap to the lvl 90 with cluster jewels build?
Drox should be pretty easy with Arc as you take down the adds with Arc chains.
Just focus on killing the Banners on top of Drox and keep dpsing Drox down until his shield pops.
Move from his slamming fist attack and you should be ok.
Sirus is way harder to beat if you don't have a jewel with 'Corrupted blood cannot be inflicted on you'.
The easiest and cheapest way to fix that is getting that mod on a corrupted Pure Talent.
After that it takes some experience to get to know his phases, but his 'DIE' beam is his most annoying ability without that mod on a jewel.
Other than that you're missing quite alot of mana on items.
On your wands you can easily get +100 mana (and with some investment +130 to +150).
Your Cloak of Defiance has a really low mana roll.
You still need more quality on you amulet, and that will net you also some mana and mana regen.
Since mana is both damage (with archmage/arcane cloak) and defence (mind over matter) in this build, the difference will be noticeable.
You alse have no quality on most of your support gems, so that is an easy upgrade.
Cluster Jewels are worth it in my opinion, but the good ones aren't cheap.
Start with a large cluster with Scintillating Idea (big mana and damage increase) and Disorienting Display (blind enemies) like suggested by Enki. Later you can either buy or harvest craft Supercharge/Vengefull Commander/Tempt the storm/Storm Drinker as the 3rd notable.
If you find a large cluster with Scintillating Idea and Disorienting Display together with a useless 3rd notable like Storm Rider or any of the others for a cheap price, it's better to buy that one because it saves you 2 passive point to path to the 2 good notables.
My brother who has not played poe for 5 years followed this guide in 3.13 and had huge problems in red maps with both defence and offence with all the uniques and exalts worth rares equipped.
I tried his char and just respecced it to crit version that i found on poeninja and then it started melting all bosses.
But anyway, with all the buff buttons that are required to be used precisely and no easy to approach defence layer + huge delay before you can move after every cast, this build is totally not newbie frienly.
I couldn't see him struggling any more and respecced him to another build i had crafted super cool gear for.

With this guide I want to provide a simple caster build for beginners that is fun and easy to play.
Instead of just showcasing a build, this guide is made to be a comprehensive learning experience.
There's many indepth explanations and links to various wiki pages for new players to understand.
I've tried to keep it short, but some things just can't be explained properly with only a few words.
Path of Building is a tool that lets you fully plan characters from scratch, check out other peoples setups or import your own character to check or compare potential upgrades.
I know that some people jump straight to the PoB without ever reading the guide, which often leads to failure and is then blamed on the build. Don't be that person!
I've invested lots of time into this guide and find it very rude when people just disregard that
and ask about things that are already well explained. This unfortunately keeps happening.
+ cheap to build + smooth playstyle + good damage scaling - can't run some mapmods - requires some unique items - mainly made for Softcore Trade
Main Mechanics in this Build
‣ Chaining: Arc is a lightning-based spell with the ability to chain from monsters and destroyable objects, even around corners and out of your line of sight! Each time it chains, it will also split to
a second nearby enemy from where it can't chain further. After chaining twice it can chain back to the initial enemy, hitting them twice within a single cast. The amount of times Arc can chain depends on its gem level and can be increased by enchantments.
‣ Mana: Usually, mana is used to cover skill costs and -reservation. We heavily invest into mana for great damage scaling and defenses provided by skillgems and the Mind over Matterkeystone.
This makes mana our highest priority modifier on both equipment and passives. Stacking mana also makes %-based mana regeneration sources (such as the base 1.8%) much more valuable.
‣ Elemental Overload: This keystone provides a 40% more damage multiplier in exchange for removing all critical strike multiplier, with the condition to crit atleast once within 8 seconds.
While the damage potential is lower compared to scaling crits, the damage is also way more consistent and only takes small investment, which allows us to invest more heavily into mana.
Here's a small collection of generic advice for newer players:
‣ Information: Knowledge is a strong skill in Path of Exile, and it helps to know where to find it. First there's the ingame Help Panel, which you can reach through its icon next to your skillbar.
The Path of Exile Wiki should be your first stop for further information, poedb for plain data.
If you prefer video guides, Zizaran has an informative video series called PoE University that contains information about most aspects of the game.
‣ Lootfilter: You will soon realize that there's lots of redundant loot in this game, a good Lootfilter reduces screen clutter and highlights potentially valuable or important drops. Neversink's Filter is always a good start and you can further customize it at Filterblade.
‣ Flasks: Unlike most ARPG's, this game is directly balanced around using all of your flasks.
This goes beyond the typical life & mana flasks that you're probably used to from other games, during your act progression you'll gain access to various utility flasks which grant powerful buffs. Flasks can also be crafted, but it's not needed until maps so i've kept it for their own section. For now, focus on keeping your life & mana flasks updated, get all utility flasks from quests when mentioned and try to get a feeling for your flask usage.
‣ Crafting: Gear can be enhanced through crafting and recipes, while the latter can also create currency used for crafting. You outlevel gear pretty quickly during act progression, so it's not advised to invest too much at this point. Limit it to a couple of Orb of Transmutation, Orb of Augmentation, Orb of Alteration, Chromatic Orbs and various Essences you can find for now,
use Jeweller's Orbs and Orb of Fusing only on useful gear you've looted. Try to focus on intelligence-based gear for an easier time to get the right colors.
‣ Crafting Bench: After unlocking your first hideout, you'll gain access to the Crafting Bench.
This can be used to craft a targeted affix on gear, if it isn't already there and has a slot open.
Use it to craft any damage affixes, Life, Attributes or Resistances missing on your gear.
Recipes need to be found first, the Crafting Bench tells you all undiscovered recipe locations.
‣ Trading: You can freely trade with other players if you have a Lv25+ char and aren't in SSF. Path of Exile's trading site is good for buying gear, poemap is convenient for bulk map trades.
If you want to sell something, you either need premium stash tabs, set up a shop in the trade subforums or use Acquisition. For pricechecks, look for similar stuff on the trade site, check poe.ninja or use Awakened POE Trade.
‣ Stash Tabs: The default stash space is pretty limited, if you like the game and are able to, consider buying more stash tabs. Getting a Currency and Map Tab is highly recommended, Premium Tabs make trading easier and if you want, a Quad Tab for extended storage.
Purchased tabs are account-wide and won't be lost when temporary leagues end.
There's also a stash tab sale weekend every three weeks if you're not in a rush.
Full Leveling Section
Your journey through the ten acts can be seen as an extensive tutorial, slowly confronting you with the majority of game mechanics and increasingly more difficult enemies to learn to counter.
This section will help you while playing through the ten acts and shows the recommended
passive tree progression, gem setups, quest progression and exp farming zone for each act.
The passive tree goals are just a pointer, it's not a big deal if you're over- or underleveled.

I bought mine for 1 ex about a week ago, but like anything else in a trading game it depends on supply and demand.
You can always try to corrupt some of these jewels yourself and hope for the best.
Corrupting a jewel with a new implicit modifier has a 1 in 3 chance of happening. The weight of the 'corrupted blood' mod is 1/15.
Thats a 1/45 chance to get the mod you want on that item when you use a vaal orb.
Depening on the price of the jewel and vaal orbs, it might be cheaper to do it yourself.
You can probably get a jewel even cheaper than 2 ex if you scour the trade site for all jewels with the 'corrupted blood' implicit mod and pick one that has mediocre explicit mods.
It won't be perfect at all while being cheap, but it's a start.

You probably should get Culling strike gloves - because of them you will essentially skip last (and hardest one) part of Drox fight where he covers entire field with banners and spawns replacement for dead banners non-stop.

Was able to do Sirus A8 without much issue, deathless even. The damage is good and it didn't take too long at all. You have to have corrupted blood immunity or it's going to eat portals fast. Having Culling Strike is also quite helpful, probably saved me a cycle at the end which is the most difficult portion. The golems running about did make seeing some of the moves more difficult but it was manageable though they did die a few times resulting in sudden stat losses for 4 seconds. If you have space and can run far enough away it's probably worth a manual reset if any are low. (Edit: I mean between cycles, not during a phase where you fight him)
Re: The Anima Stone, my PoB is below if you want to try it yourself but adding in the Lightning Golem has the following effect: 20% increased cast speed and not surprisingly a 20% increase in damage. It seems like there should be additional gains given the descriptions of Liege of the Primordial and Elemancer, but that's what PoB says. All golems also get more life I believe. I do think it's worth it, I could keep everything else the same and use some of the points I used to get an extra jewel slot to path over to Divine Judgment but that results in lower damage. Even if I get 4 more levels I think those 4 points will go into life or perhaps another medium cluster.
So with a fairly modest investment, 25ex or thereabout the build is doing 5.3m in damage and if you watch your map mods, keep flasks up in the more dangerous areas, and keep moving the survivability seems decent. It's not block tank Necro safe but it's not too bad. I don't see an issue with Elder or Shaper but Uber Elder is going to need more currency input and levels.
Sitting at 2.8k life but almost 10.5k mana and it all feels pretty good.

Thanks for this post!!!
I've been slogging away trying to make currency for my cloak waiting and hoping for someone to say they killed a8 (even if it took a portal or 2 or 3) with this build
a couple of questions:
looking at your tree, wouldn't you want to go with Dreamer instead of Forethought or is there something else going on there?
nice curse ring, does it stack / add with the trigger wand conductivity, so one of them is always covering? or have you just not got around to replacing the wand one?
I've read backwards in the thread quite a ways, but I haven't seen anything about how you counteract the mana loss effects on the boots and The Agnostic.. is it we just have that much more mana regen?
much dumber question.. with 5 golems, do you just use portal scrolls again? that puts us out of spell slots ;) giving up the portal gem will be tough lol

You don't want dreamer, you want mana costs to be high because it boosts damage.
I'm not sure the ring is needed but I do think it helps. To get the curses from the trigger wand to hit you have to be close to the enemy and have it proc. I found that I was often facing the wrong way and often didn't want to be close. I would only look at getting one if you also have Culling Strike against cursed enemies although there is still a damage boost against enemies at long range so perhaps it would still be worthwhile if you can get one without breaking the bank. To be honest I don't understand all the interactions well enough to say whether or not it's worth it. Pulling it off doesn't show a difference in PoB but removing the Conductivity gem from the trigger wand does and I don't know why.
There doesn't seem to be a great way to recoup mana quickly other than the special gloves that about 1/3 of the time refund the whole mana cost of a skill which can be damn near the entirety of your mana pool. I would say that they are essential. They don't always work perfectly but they hit often enough to work from my experience.
Can this build compete with other setups in higher tiers?
I have seen many Arc Witches going down the Crit Chance and Crit multiplier road for some high DPS with the Agnostic and Supreme Ego keystone. But these don't seem really noob-friendly. They are heavily relying on flasks for damage since these are temporarily boosting the Crit Chance, which this build depends on.
Enki's however is quite reliable isn't it?
I am not sure if I should go with the Crit Chance or Enki.
There is quite a range of investment returns on all the various builds out there. This one can definitely compete, but I wouldn't expect to top 8-10m sDPS without an inordinate amount of investment. That's enough damage to do just about anything you want in the game, and the build is more flexible than most, I'd say. Maybe 75th percentile or so out of the high-functioning builds. A lot more fun than most, though.
Crit is theoretically capable of providing more damage, but it's going to be really expensive and require a number of sacrifices on the passive tree. I would recommend just sticking to Elemental Overload.
So I have no idea what to do now. I've died to Drox again. I failed the first sirus (A4/5) as well. Sirus failure is probably due to inexperience as I have never done the fight before and got stuck on the walls.

If you don't have mana issues culling gloves would be great, if you can get culling on the 30/30 gloves great but the only item that has "solved" mana issues for me this league are the 30/30 gloves.
