We're generally happy with the overall drop rate of Unique items, but want to improve the ratios between the four different internal tiers of rarity that Uniques are classified under.
The four tiers of uniques are internally known as:
- Common: Straightforward uniques that are useful for twinking and are very impactful when levelling. Shiversting is a good example.
- Uncommon: Somewhat more complicated or build-defining uniques like Facebreaker or The Three Dragons.
- Rare: Specialised and end-game uniques that aren't meant to drop often, like Bino's Kitchen Knife.
- Super-rare: Chase uniques like Shavronne's Wrappings, Kaom's Heart or Song of the Sirens.
At the moment (in 1.1.3b), most of the uniques that players find are common. You'll occasionally find uncommon uniques but it's honestly pretty hard for casual players to find the rarer uniques.
We want to improve the chance of finding rarer uniques to achieve the following goals:
- We want players to find a greater variety of uniques, especially if doing boss runs.
- We want to see more availability of interesting uniques for all players.
- We want build-defining uniques to become more available than they previously were.
- We still want the early experience with uniques to be with easily understandable unique that are hopefully powerful for your level.
- We don't want to be too disruptive to the existing in-game trade value of uniques.
Instead of finding so many common uniques, we will be increasing the chance of finding other rarities. We will be roughly doubling the chance of finding Uncommon or Rare uniques. The chance of finding Super-rare ones will be increased by roughly 20%.
We'll be re-evaluating the rarity tiers of our uniques to make sure that they fit the above rules. For example The Blood Dance is probably too complicated for its current Common slot.
We're expecting to apply this change in content update 1.1.4 (late May).
If you truly wish to do this than i suggest you standardize town portals and do away with this 3 scrolls of wisdom to one townportal. I really don't like the fact you guys say not to use town portals so often and when your in a hard area your encouraged to use them. It wasn't up until you put in the checkpoint rez this was finally fixed.
In fact if you do double the drop rates i suggest you also normalize scrolls of wisdom. I would normally say increase their drop rates but that's not enough. I have acres of blue and yellow's waiting to be identified but because someone decided to have three scrolls of wisdom to every townportal i usually end up saving them.
I still ask myself why you must reset instances every 8- 15 mins Its not necessary.
As for clunky melee my crusader is a prime example, When i started out my witch she had no trouble sure she wasn't uber but she went a lot faster than my crusader whom i got so bored with i went back to the witch to do cruel. Half the time i used my glacial hammer it missed( frankly i suggest throwing accuracy out). Then of course there's the mana dependance. Either the skills need to take less mana or mana regen needs to be faster which doesn't make sense for melee but w/e Blizz north figured it out i am sure you will too.
In fact, this leads to another concern of mine. Every time you end up putting a new skill gem in the game you put it in for normal difficulty and if we are alrdy on cruel or merciless we completely miss out on it. Sure we may get lucky and find it. Frankly i have been lucky with gems but only because of magic find. I certainly don't have glacial skull or w/e its called.
Now maybe gems drops will also increase i would like to find the rest that my witch can use. Or maybe you have npc's start to sell them.

I think that people fail to understand that some of us DON'T CARE FOR ITEM VALUE.
We want to have a chance of trying the highest tier uniques sometime in this lifetime... It's not funny to watch all those rich people killing Uber Atziri and getting even more rich by selling the service, knowing that we will NEVER have the chance to do it because the gear we use is simply not good enough...
That's not funny. I don't care if your Tabulas and your BoR's and your Aegis drop in value, I want to have a freaking chance of getting them myself by playing the game and not standing in town mindlessly spamming Trade Channel to sell my hardly leveled 20/20 gems to save a couple ex to buy an upgrade. That's moronic.
Wether you like it or not, this is going to happen, and the fact that you cry about it is hilarious, because that can be used to differentiate people that actually play the game for fun from people that play the game to trade.
This!
Happy abt the change.

Players desperately need of common currency before unique...
If any ggg member would check the trade spam chat ..... which is full of unique sales.
Everyone is selling...but nobody is buying because even the most important and common item, Orb Of Alteration has so friking low drop rates...pfff
Fix currency, increase drop, then fix Unique.

EDIT: This patch also contains readjustments to unique chances for different uniques as described in the manifesto here.

I was excited when I first read the headline:
But then disappointed.
So uniques are going to drop more often.
That's kinda good but, damn!
What we really need is for under-performing uniques to be re-evaluated and boosted!
Too many of them either have
-no life
-no signifigant energy shield.
And guess what: you need lots of 1 or the other to survive.
Getting a unique drop is too often a OH BOY! surge of joy, followed by a crash of-
GOD DAMNIT! ANOTHER USELESS UNIQUE!
:(
guess you didn't undestand the patch, twice the uniques wont be dropping but twice the chance to get a higher tier drop. The same number of them will drop but when they do better chance of getting a higher level for example(making up numbers)
tier------------chance before patch-----Now
common------------------70%------------44%
uncommon---------------15%------------30%
rare-----------------------10%------------20%
super rare----------------5%-------------6%
Im sure the numbers are much lower, but hopefully people will now understand twice the number of unqiues wont be dropping now
