Why would you get a full respec for building around a skill that everyone knew would inevitably be nerfed?

Thats not the responsibility of the player. I don't care how you spin that.

Players build with whats available. When that changes due to no fault of their own, then some type of reimbursement is needed.

Any skill/passive that seems strong should be avoided by everyone then?

I'm playing devils advocate here and its a pretty bad situation to be in when you put yourself into a casuals shoes thats spent upwards of 20+ chaos on gems and build a character that is now unplayable and gems worthless.

Look at it from a perspective that isnt a all day balls deep min/max poe player and you'll see my point.

Ok I'm confused on CODT changes. Could someone clarify for me?

Example:
Let's say I have a Level 5 CODT combined with level 11 Molten Shell, level 8 Enfeeble and level 2 Immortal Call

Outcomes after patch:
A) All supported gems cast as level 5, with exception of the Immortal Call which is still level 2.
B) Only Immortal Call is able to cast, the other skills are unusable until the CODT is the same level as the respective gems.

IMHO, Outcome A is acceptable and probably a good nerf. Outcome B is super harsh and will lead to some craaaaaaazy inflation in price of Scouring Orbs.

After the patch any gem linked to CODT will have to have a level requirement less than that of CODT or it will not work. e.g

CODT needs level 31 to use, molten shell linked to it needs level 32 to use it this mean it will not work.

hope thats clear so option 2
And on top of that leveling CODT increases the damage taken amount need to cast to 2500 at level 20 which is more than some peoples total health.

Nerf to CWDT was absolutely needed. Was ridiculously OP, and it will still be strong after the patch IMO.

The qq'ing over certain high end uniques only dropping in the highest ilevels was needed IMO, and thankfully GGG listened.

However many people love CWDT because it allows them to faceroll content. It elevates people to god mode. Where's the challenge in that?

What the hell are you talking about CODT is a UTILITY GEM all it did was removed the need to press 3 buttons while fighting every 10 seconds or so thats all
nothing has been removed from the game other than convenience.

It is 100% true that its a nerf to fun as it has zero impact on character power any-one saying that the gem was OP has no understanding of what the gem did.

The easiest fix was to have all gems linked to it do zero damage.

EXACTLY my thoughts, they had so many ways to change this gem,,,
like this
lvl 1 dmg threshold 30% of max hp - dmg penalty 50%
lvl 20 dmg threshold 10% - dmg penalty 75%
or this
same as current but add "linked gems can activate once each 6 sec
So you would actually
We failed once, We failed twice, We must fail again!

WE'll b@ng ok?
Great patch.

The bugfix for CWDT sounds very nice. Even a level 20 CWDT is still casting it's stuff often enough to allow for all the nondamage skills to be applied without having to "press buttons" all the time. While we actually might see some creativity around it.

Love the Vitality and Purity of Fire stuff, hope it works well for my RF Witch. (though first I have to find a Purity of Fire and then I have to find out how big the "maximum" increase is going to be; but I guess it will be a little higher than Purities was :) )

Also the bandit stuff is great, makes a lot of sense that this is now changeable.

so to use a lavel 1 Molten Shell with CWDT you need a level 2 CWDT.
For a level 17 MS (requires lvl 62) you need a lvl 17 CWDT (requires lvl 63). Sounds like a great fix. Time to level your CWDT instead of abusing its level progression.
Good stuff, Chris!

It'll be a fun challenge trying to come up with effective uses for CODT instead of the previous "easy mode" state it was in. Anyone with a lick of common sense knew it would be changed, so tough luck for those who based their build around its broken function.

Time to man up & adapt, folks.

great post. someone who doesnt even understand how the gem works, or how it will work, says it's a good fix. don't post about things you know absolutely nothing about
