WTH is this paywall discussion?

"

yeah cuz then its more about paying for a service like you said and creating a community where ppl help each other out. for everyone else who doesn't wanna pay they can still join the free discord channel or just look at the free pob and be able to read

How does the paywall help with creating a community? it's a barrier to entry meant to generate income. It also runs the risk of taking advantage of ignorant players who arent aware free resources already exist.

Bruh... please... taking advantage of ppl who don't know free resources exist?
That's an insane strawman. How would it be possible to not to run into all the free guides when probably 99.9% are free!?

And you've read it worng... it's not "help build a community" instead it's "a community where ppl help". Just sayin.

Sorry if i misunderstood something but they said "yeah cuz then its more about paying for a service like you said and creating a community where ppl help each other out. "

And I was asking a question about how paying for the service is contributing to creating a community.

I honestly cant think of any reason people would consider paying for a guide unless they were very ignorant of video games/online communities in general and it was directly marketed towards them as a new player. so ya, taking advantage in my opinion.

PoE is doing nothing new here... you find written guides, tools, apps, coaching, whatever all over the entire industry for free or paid.

For example, if you get a guide from a streamer for free... how much additional help do you think you will get when facing problems? Trying to be lucky in their chat and get a smaller question answered? Ok. But what is with bigger and/or even fundamental stuff that would take in-depth explanation?
Or had them to actually look at your character to spot issues etc.?
Yeah... good luck doing that on Ziz's sunday roast xD

If you get a paid guide it could be it's offered as a service to engage with the buyer and offer way more help.
Sure, someone could offer this service for free... but this takes many manhours... so it's kinda reasonable to take something in exchange and I doubt streamers want to stall playing the game this much. Helping a huge amount of ppl instead of doing streamer things? Nah, wont happen.

I'm trying to be respectful but you accused me of making a strawman while also making these strawmen arguments multiple times.

I still dont see how adding a price tag is contributing to creating a community.

Mine is not a strawmen because it is a possibility...
That you think there could be someone who does not encounter free build guides but instead only finds the paid ones... is not.

It's not "helping to create a community"... I repeat myself.

But its an unproven possibility. Maybe it's not a strawman, but it is reframing the issue to justify a price tag for a product by saying "It's packeged alongside a different valuable service" without addressing the concerns of the paywalled guides

And I clarified that I cannot fathom anyone considering paying for a guide unless they know hardly anything about how gaming/online communities work. Which may have been hyperbolic but i dont consider to be impossible or a strawman.

I mean, you don't need to understand it personally, but there is probably a market for these paid guides.
Like... if you bought "build guide A" from "PaidBuildGuides.com" you are "entitled" to request in-depth and individual help for that build should you need it.

Ppl act like everyone transforms in "FastAF 2.0"...

Ya, i understand that.

But they felt the need to try and correct me while misinterpreting my question. Wasnt sure what else to do except reiterate what i was questioning.
