WTH is this paywall discussion?
" I feel like you're creating a false dichotomy. It's not a free sub-standard guide vs a premium guide made by John P. Exile. It's a free viewable guide vs an unknown guide behind a price tag. There's no way to ensure the payed guide is better then a free one. that's just an assumption that bigger cost = more value. If anything, free guides will have more eyes critiquing them and likely be revised/improved more often. Im certain there are terrible free guides out there, but in general the free to use resources made by fans of poe are incredible (pob, craftofexile, filterblade, poeninja, etc). Please GGG, I need my sparkly crown MTX in PoE2. Last edited by Direfell#7544 on May 20, 2026, 11:25:55 PM

Imo I think it's conceptually find to charge for your work.
I think the visceral reaction a lot of people are having is more about a sense of community. PoE has traditionally been built around an entire arsenal of this party tools and guides that have almost always been free. The idea of someone coming in and starting to charge for the same thing, can feel like an outsider trying to exploit your community. If it's successful and enough people begin doing it to become the norm, it can feel like you're community has disappeared. I think there also another angle which is the P2W aspect. General sentiment in this game hates P2W and RMT. If the best guides or crafting secrets are gated by money, that's just another form of P2W. Of course you can't really control the information like that, so this one feels like a less realistic concern - but I can understand the feeling. There's also the take that people will be putting out lower quality guides than free options and effectively scamming people. I'm not really concerned. The free market will sort itself out, and until then I get some faux drama to go with my stalling popcorn. Last edited by KaosuRyoko#1633 on May 20, 2026, 11:42:31 PM

" And it could be viewed as biased to assume guides with a pay wall are worse than guides for free. Take online "print" articles as example. There are tons of articles/sites for free and some with a paywall. There ppl technically don't know if the article they wanna read is good or not too, but ppl still sign up for memberships. Why? Reputation. And you even made an important point... "free guide" does not equal "good". There are so many dogshit guides out there for free... Not the payment is the real issue... the quality is; and that applies to free and paid guides. [Removed by Support]

" This. It's not really reasonable to start a crusade against ppl who ask to get money for their work. " I totally get what you mean, but this could be applied to other things that already happened in this community as well, but nobody cared. Take the huge content creator shift to "Maxroll" as an example. Sure, technically the guides are free - that's not the point, but money is still involved, thus, I could even make the argument: When the creators partner with Maxroll, do they still hold up the guide quality or just pump out guides to hit a quota because more money? And? Is the PoE community concerned about that? No. Because reputation is a thing and that will apply to "pay wall guides" too. " Honestly, should the "BEST guides" be behind a pay wall... like... if you are the best - why force yourself to make it for free!? Sure. You can. When you don't need that income, but who does not depend on it!? Streamers? Well... " Scamming was and will always be an issue. We still have multiple "scam" content creators on Youtube and such. " That's basically what I am saying in short - if the pay wall guides are ass and don't offer something free guides don't - ppl wont buy them. The End. Let them charge whatever they want, but we are all going to get a good laugh at "influencers" trying to take people to court over "copywrite of a videogame guide".

Once you paywall a build, people will start paywalling other crap, PoE is a community driven game. Once those scum sucking losers start selling ChatGTP builds, people will start paywalling Lootfilters,
[{~~BEST FILTERS FOR EARLY LEAGUE START~~}] Only $4.99, OR }{~~{{{ULTRA FILTER}}}~~}{ $14.99 [SALE 50% OFF], Imagine if Path of Building became paywalled or PoE ninja or any other sites people use. As someone whos returning to poe2 for 0.5 patch after not playing since the initial launch i find it very weird that people wouild even entertain the idea of allowing paywalled content. |

I just want to know where I can get free corn.
Like we talking, on the cob? Already packaged? I NEED to know where this free corn is |
|
" Dumbest premise ever in 2026... Anyone who thinks thier 'paid' build wont get leaked asap is a total moron. |
|

As Ziz has already pointed out in his vid, absolutely no paid guide will be even worth buying, all the best creators do the crap for free because they're actual content creators that make their money via views, not selling an already free resource.
