I'd prefer they made it much closer to POE1 or actually make it slower and it's own thing. If they did that tho the campaign would be 50hrs long. This in the middle game they have rn is only frustrating both sides

" Ok I was a little uhhh well .. My opinion matters however. The split of meaningful, what does that mean. is it that you move real slow . Im serious if you take a game play video and just playing it slower. Does that do it. Its not sarcasm, are the animations more correct ? All of the friction of the game is in the wrong place. PoE1 has it better. 6 portals leave it! it defines the game , you see a ring off portals its PoE. Needing to color code your gems , bring it back, it was the craft friction. You need to have that kind of thing, it was crafting, it provided long term goals. The whole color socket thing was a mini game, the most successful one. The right kind of friction. The kind you can overcome. Without it the game is not streamlined it is shallow. Its degenerating into a cookie clicker. There is no depth to it, no crafting , just a bunch of purposely irritating stuff, at a casino table. There are definitely issues with the current game. Most of them are self inflicted. I don't know how to phrase it but if i had to answer what the differences are between PoE1 and 2 , in 2 the movement is better and the game is worse. " Great summary of PoE2's current state. Also, I do agree on the gems in POE1 being a "mini game" Very satisfying to get the right colors or finally fully link your armor. However, it does *seem* to conflict with the Game Director's goal of "Multi-skill" combat. Just wanted to note your gem comment, because interesting point. RANT INBOUND - GET DOWN The movement is better because GGG solved the Action half of the equation in "ARPG". The game is worse not because of difficulty but because somewhere along the way the "A" in ARPG became the entire industry's focus. Combat has been honed into a machine over 13 years of refinement. The 0.1 patch proved the difficulty dial can be turned — that's a KNOWN. Easily addressable (i.e. just revert to 0.1). What is unknown or perhaps forgotten is the RPG element — the soul, the heart, the reason any of this matters beyond the next item drop. Act 1 gets this right. The Count is a clear villain and his Executioner is his will in physical form. I'm invested in protecting the village and (imo) the pacing toward the final confrontation is great. Then the betrayal happens and the story spends the emotional investment Act 1 built before the player has time to or even meet her (or feel it). By Act 2 the throughline has quietly collapsed and we're chasing a beast from PoE1 while Sin is back and hides in the background. Act 2 Boss even dies in the same way (i.e. - for her although willingly this time). Does anyone know PoE2's story? Does anyone care? Look at the posts. The absence of story discussion is itself the answer. The true next-generation ARPG offers: 1) Combat that appeals to both player identities: PoE1's power fantasy and PoE2's deliberate awareness through dedicated "realms" rather than forced compromise (win-win strategy where we all walk away dissatisfied). 2) Dynamic storylines where choices leave a permanent mark on the world 3) A plot with clear purpose and genuine stakes: not just a reason to grind but a reason to care 4) Motivation beyond currency/items: for the players who need the RPG half of the equation to stay invested Whole point is to get through campaign as quick as possible to grind in end game. This sounds a whole lot like a game we've played before...can't put my finger on it...PO...POE1 I think it's called? TBH: I would like to see an actual "End game" in POE2 where at level 100 you can finally try to defeat the ultimate bad guy. I mean, why not? What else are you going to do at level 100? For players who came for the role, the stakes, and the reason: PoE2 offers power without narrative resolution. The grind answers the question for some but not for all. Ultimately, POE2's competitors (especially one near and dear to POE1) read these forums because, frankly, POE2 is THE ONE (right now) when it comes to being the "Next Gen ARPG". These concepts will be incorporated into an ARPG that truly can be called "Next Gen" and while I hope POE2 is the one, will be fully invested in the one who does pull these off. |

" POE 2 is not souls like and not will be - souls like is not a hard game.. you are not a souls like gamer i guess (no offense ofc it's not an attack).. but "souls like genre is stick to much more than methodical combat. Simply giving game harder and methodical active combat doesn't make game a souls like.. Soon time will show if they are listening to players and it's target player base and learned - so game will be PROMISED slower, harder and methodical and not that zooming fiesta as they before listened to emotional part of community which spam most. or it's losing even arpg genre to being vampire'survivors clone which it's in end-game and losing it's identity. Mostly.. Last edited by saashaa#5518 on May 6, 2026, 4:39:38 PM

Zooming is optional in this game. You can dodge roll every boss attack with magic or white gear. The problem here is that even casuals like zoom gameplay. It is good as it is right now. Temple blasters spend 20+ mirrors to achieve POE1 speed and thats fine - that should be a goal for ARPG - to be a god.

" "optional" is just statment of a person who doesn't understand about what poe-is. It's not optional. arpg games are for min-maxing and entire game need to be toned around balance and itemization. Challenges are not a option if you want to play normally. If you want to experience game as it's planned/promised. It's different kind of "option" to start a challenge run. It's not good to have game that forces you to play" nude" to experience promised gameplay - which was entire point why poe sells so good for 0.1 and why was created. Imagine "oh god" souls like (as just example) where you need to play nude to experience entire itemisation, stats and all mechanics because you one shot with any weapon and there's no risk. It's not a "option" even if it's an "option" if you understand what i mean. Goal to be god - i agree.. but now it's not a goal - we are the "god" after killing a crab and not after killing gods. Being a god-hood should happen after obtaining bis gear. After killing gods - and not after killing crabs on beach map. "God" tier weapons are to easy accessible - we have to many options to invest into dmg and to less in survi. For now - it's to easy to get power, to fast - power creep in maps is closer to D3. it's normal for people who understand game to skip from T1 to T10 to T14 and while reaching pinnacle bossing - to one shot your first pinnacle boss without even seeing any attack. it's not a point of arpg. Entire itemisation then don't have any meaning. Game in 0.3 and 0.4 was oriented around "first time experience" and not around veterans. Which broke entire joy - entire meaning of even having POE 2 here. No synergies, just holding button and automation, no hard campain, no hard bossing, no risk and high gain. and after the stream - still.. We have to much of "speed" added - to many projectiles. And to less options to make game slower and what was promised to us..
We really need poe 1 atlas node: Monsters have 50% more HP/Monsters Deal 25% less damage. To make game more toned to what was promised and make combat-to-combat pace more important. |

" They are not suicidal I guess. If they listened to this relentless coordinated attack on the game to ruin it to the ground by bricking speed, there would be no one else left to play it. I haven't watched the stream and I can assume it was a good stream with great news based on your feedback. I'm still on the fence, very careful and I'll form an opinion after I watch it. But if it's moving toward a faster pace, then this is very good news. |
