This is just not true.

There's RNG sure, and enough RNG that technically you could get nothing but really bad afflictions and end up with zero boons by the end of it, but in practice, you can stack the chances to your favor to a significant degree.

I mean, in my last five trial runs, on four my boons/afflictions looked like this in floor 3 (and even better by the end of the run):



It's fairly consistent to get 2-4 times more total boons than afflictions; and to get to pick afflictions that have only a very small negative effect on your run.

Which is why I don't see why the afflictions should be nerfed further. Unless their amount was also increased or the boons were nerfed.


Because it's easier to whine that it's unfair and all RNG than it is to think, learn and plan ahead.

TLDR: This is total disgrace. The solution is to lower the values of the Afflictions (not remove them, just lower the values, and I hope they don't nerf the drops if they do that.)


I use maximum honour resitence with maximum honour increased and +25 damage to enemies, but I do not have unique relics, only magic/rare relics.
I lost twice my 3rd ascedency on the 3rd Floor(3rd level however you want to call it ) with one or two rooms right before the final boss (one room until my 3rd ascendency...) because of so many unknown and random affliction every time.
While being level 81 I used twice a coin with level 66 Trial and 3rd room.
So I'm 14 levels above the coin and I still cannot complete the third ascedency.
This is insane, being 14 levels above my coin/trial and still being so ridiculously frozen,stunned,loose so much Honour from afflictions not from hits, receive 50% less water, take % more increased damae, %% reduction effect on your non-unique relics. This is total disgrace.


Proposed solution (because afflictions will never be removed):
Lower the values of afflictions.
The Afflictions in Trial of Sekhemas need to be nerfed, the afflictions need to have lower values (i.e instead of having -50% reduction to all of your non-unique relics, it should be maximum 25-20% and so on for every affliction.)



I'm just going to start off by saying that the Trial of Sekhemas is the most unfun, punishing, f. you to the players that I have ever seen in any game ever, not only in ARPGs, in any game, period!

Every time I run the Trial of Sekhemas I keep getting random afflictions that hide what I see on the map, I cannot know what is in the room in front , either boons/buffs or afflictions.
Not only that, but even when I see the afflictions on the map, I'm forced to choose if I should cut my leg, my ear or poke my eyes out, basically regardless if I see what's on the map, the afflictions are still way too punishing.

Afflictions that happen way too frequent:
* Low Rivers - 50% less sacred water
* Blunt Sword - You and your minions deal 40% less damage
* Golden Smoke - Rewards are unknown on the trial map
* Purple Smoke - Afflictions are unknown on the Trial map
* Dishonoured Tattoo - 100% increased damage taken while on low life
* Forgotten traditions - 50% reduces effect on your Non-Unique Relics

* Fiendish Wings - Monster's actions speed cannot be slowed below base Monsters have 25% increased Attack, Cast and Movement speed


In my view the solution here is to lower absolutely each and every single Affliction value.
DO NOT NERF THE BOONS/BUFFS, just the Afflictions , is that simple.

My first attempt there was a big stutter/freeze and after a few seconds when the game game back, the resolution was all messed up and I died, so I lost progress with one room before the boss.




The problem is not the monsters, the problem is the Afflictions.
And it's insane to me that I am 14 levels above the coin used, and yet I struggle because of the afflictions.
I lost so much time, so many coinds so many nerves just because I need that third ascedency.

GGG , you're really making me not want to give you money. Your game isgreat, the Trial of Sekhemas idea is amazing, but the implementation of Afflictions makes me want to never give you money.
How am I supposed to buy supporter packs when you're punishing me so much just because you have 500-1000 players that love this sadistic punishment?

What's wrong here guys... Don't you want my money, are my money not good?

Until you stop making new content anf start fixing you bugs, performance issues and these punishing mechanics from the Trials, I will not give you any money, or waste my time playing this game.

trial of sekhemas is really easy. it is the only game mechanics out of so many others that you can enter a zone pre-buffed (with relics) in order to gain an edge against the odds.

but let's not talk about the relics first.

let's talk about the basics and the fundamentals, which is decision making and making choices and thinking multiple steps in advance while making choices.

you really need to go online to youtube and reddit to look at how people play the trial and how to game the trial.

when you are faced with challenges and difficulties, you will either win or lose. so what do you want to choose? do you want to make effort to learn and be a winner? or do you want to stay status quo and be a loser?

This. I farm Sekhema trials, because the content is fun.

The trick to avoiding these dangerous afflictions is to always take the route which offers the most room choices. That way when you eventually run into the affliction wall, you'll have a ton more options to choose from.

Unlike PoE1's Sanctum, Sekhema trial isn't as rewarding so you won't feel bad having to make such choices either. At minimum you just need 1-2 gold keys for spectrum chests, and those appear commonly enough.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

For those that have a life/full time job, these are just an unfun chore. I will be paying for a carry now that I have discovered you can do so. And this is comming from someone who dosen't care about re-doing the campaign every league.


Why you even playing games if you cant find 30-40 min to do trial?
Get better relics, then it goes from absolutely dumb to mind-numbingly easy.
I like the trials and I've gotten comfortable with them, but I do think the game's definition of Minor and Major is way off. Losing *all* armor or evasion is not minor. Doing 40% less damage multiplicatively is not minor. Gaining a tiny bit of honor on room completion is not major, while dealing 50% more damage is.

I'd love to see them do a full balance pass on boons in the future. I think Fright Mask is an example of a well tuned minor boon. Monsters deal 20% less damage is a nice boost but not insane. The minor affliction that halves your energy shield also feels okay to me. It sucks to get it, but it doesn't end the run.

I just died AFTER the dual bosses of the second set of rooms are dead. Please stop this. They are dead! I go in to collect the sacred water then just blew up and failed. This makes absolutely no sense.

What class are you playing ?
I struggle with the Druid and with the Monk

I had no issues with my Amazon doing the trials.
But specifically with "slow" and more melee based classes like the Monk/WArrior and the Druid, it's way too close to the enemy, you get hit every time because you're a melee class and you have to get close, and you're either hit by projectiles, or directly by the melee mobs.


I'm shoked at how many people defend the Trial of Sekhemas when it's clearly a big problem with the Trials

Why 95% of players have to suffer just because 5% of the Veterans love this feature?
