One portal deaths kill my will to play the game

I agree.

However, as long as we play the game they will refuse to accept it.

This video game has zero visual clarity, on death effects, invincibility mechanics/phases on mobs/bosses, random one-shots, moment to moment unreasonable difficulty spikes and more.

I fear, they will keep this forced shitcore in the game as long as we play. And when we stop playing, it will not be our problem anymore, anyway.

At this point, I think they should create another league called "midcore" where people who support this 0 portal nonsense can play as their heart desires, and we can play softcore with our portals.

I wonder how many of these "but-risk-and-reward-tribe" members would play midcore.

I for one, would not play midcore, just like I'm not playing hardcore.

Do maps with 4 mods.

Except that to progress the atlas passive it requires you to do 6 mod maps. Having a Third Tablet requires 6 mod maps, the tablets offer far too much to ignore them

The game is not polished enough and is far too rippy for the current 1 portal system, not to meantion bugs and constant crashing. Currently it's far too easy to die from a random unseen off screen meteor or some other rubbish, and of course this just increases significantly further with more map mods.

The next argument is going to be "Make a better build"

I can run a T15 6 mod map and not even bat an eye and the next one I run, encounter 1 rare and instantly die, hell even the wrong type of white mobs with the wrong modifiers can wipe out a toon. I can kill all the T3 bosses in under 10 seconds and still randomly die in a 6 mod T15 map.

The next one will be "don't run modifiers you cannot handle"

Sure thats fine, but then you are limiting your character options even more. The other issue here is that a lot of the modifiers are always dangerous, regardless of your build.

There are only a handful of good build options that can truly run 6 mod maps properly with almost no risk. These also usually require a good amount of gear investment due to their popularity. This then brings the question as to how can you achieve this point without the superior drop rates of the T15 6 map mods.

The other concept with these top tier builds is that the reason they work is that they achieve this through raw power, with massive amounts of damage that covers entire screens worth of monsters, completly bypassing any game mechanics in place.

For a game franchise that is meant to be about creative freedom they sure like to shit on that with terrible unintuitive modifiers and having their gear progression so wack that the best way to win is to not engage with the game at all.

+1000 to this post nailed it on the head i got 3 characters all 90+ that squash any end game content in seconds. Run 1 map 0 issue, load next map insta death. I have even went as far as getting 2 identical maps and running them on the same map tile set and guess what same shit happens the game decides when it wants to kill you, you will be dead, yet same modifiers. Its like the map rolls 1 monster with some broken ass damage every other map and its dumb we dont want to play diefest2026 we want to steamroll the content consistently without the worry of some "gotcha" monster.

Every time I use a 6-mod map with a single portal and die to some random BS, I just want to close the game. Every time it happens I'm a little less motivated to play. I understand that 0.5 is supposed to include a major rework of endgame. Please reconsider this limited portal mechanic.

Good post.

i read replys.

It seems people forget the soul of the game.

Why does a player open a map with 6 mods? Or rather: why does a player even play?

Simply for the loot. 99% of players understand that 98, 99, or 100 levels are bullshit and don't influence gameplay or loot at all. Based on this principle, within a map with 10000000000000000000000 mods, what matters is the loot.

Considering this is a poorly developed game, with people in charge of this mess whose biggest and most important thing is to punish the player left and right, you get this result. People who can't see beyond their own noses.

I've been playing PoE2 for almost 6000 hours. I confess that all my maps are single-portal maps. I have a level 98 character who only died 22 times in the entire game, two level 96 characters, and a level 90 druid.

The problem is that in every aspect of this poorly developed game, their goal is always to punish the player, and this happens when the developer doesn't understand the difference between difficulty and mediocrity.

Yes... their ideas are very bad.
i think buffing omen to 90% less exp loss will fix all the whining about exp loss, reworked end game will for sure keep the mechanic of having only 1 try thats the point of fully juicing ur stuff, do it when u can not when u want max out ur loot and have 0 penatly for it, play easier content if u are not strong enough its all on u, 1shoting random mobs will for sure be addressed in 0.5 also so no need to think about that

what i hope happens is energy shield megaguting, where u can achieve 5k max and if u wanna go over u have to consider losing a lot of the damage, because going 20k and not dodging anything is a joke

Isn't that crazy that in order to not die you need either better defense or paying more attention when playing?

Wouldn't mind to see your character, maybe its glasscannon and its actually your problem that you die.

Hello and Happy New Year,

Death in End Game mapping is far to punishing.

Upon a singular death in a 6-mod map:
1. Loss of Waystone
2. Loss of XP
3. Must re-do map
4. NO TABLETS while re-do'ing said map

Death to Boss in any Waystone:
1. Loss of all content in Map.
2. Loss of XP
3. Boss back on full health
4a. If failed again must re-do map
4b. NO TABLETS while re-do'ing said map

Finally made it to Atziri: Die to Unknown mechanic
1. Cant get back to her unless a bunch of maps and good rng.

Finally make it to a Citadel: Oops died
1. Good luck finding another one.

This is a lot. I don't understand the HC like mechanics in the SC. I recognize that I may have some bias coming from PoE1 and loving my 6 portal defense. It just feels bad. It's the only time that I actually want to stop playing the game. I have almost 1400 hrs in the game and even more in PoE1, much more lol. Its a buzz-kill in the whole game play loop.

Just let me play your amazing game.

+1 most solo players have this take, just not the no lifers and people who play in groups.

Don't let the rage bait get you or sway you, they are a very toxic community. Because their opinion differs, instead of actually properly communicating and having a conversation as to why we have differing views, they choose to play defensive and use rage baiting as their shield to keep living in their delusions.

Doesn't matter what you say or do, can't change their opinion they've set it in stone and thats ok, they choose to call everyone else with a different experience/opinon wrong and push them off as invalid for not building in that exact way they did or use that piece of equipment that everyone else is using, Theres clear ways to play and not to play, why offer all these choices?

No opinion is invalid all be it how ridiculous some can be, all our voices matter, it leads to a greater and healthier less toxic/more enjoayble outcome.
